Thread: Small Houses for 3k
There is a guy on Bloodfin that is selling small houses for 3k each. He says it only cost him 2.2k to make them so he feels he is doing well and the consumer is doing well.
Zorph
Actually this guy claims it costs LESS than 2k, and told me I didn't know what I'm talking about when I made note that 2 mineral harvesters and 1 power harvester would cost a little over 2k to even run...
Shortly after I pointed out the resource usage, harvester cost, and such, he stopped taking orders and claimed he was pulling his harvesters due to a bug causing them to use 2x the maintenance cost. (I haven't seen this or any mention of it...but if this is true, I'm glad my harvesters are not suffering from this)
I do agree, sooner or later he will give up or raise prices...I don't even take orders past 2 or 3 days simply because crit failures on the bigger items could set you back a day or two; plus I don't enjoy having to sample, and build 24/7 trying to work out a backlog.
I don't even sell houses anymore...people just laugh at you when you ask 15k or higher; then they run over to the guy next to you selling for 3-8k and complain that they don't have any deeds ready to purchase.
In the end people charging these ridiculous prices will fade away after they become too backordered and realize they're not having fun; and thats when prices will rise. Prices should be high simply to keep supply and demand in check with each other.
Well, houses are getting cheap also because every architect can make one, and they aren't terribly useful yet, which makes people less willing to buy. So it's a buyer's market.
However, I've sold 2 factories so far for 40k each, and no one complained about the price. In fact one guy tipped me 5k on top of that! I also sold a solr power generator for 9K plus 1500 nice copper, so some stuff will sell, but it's mainly stuff that other crafters will use I think.
Personally i hope the recent change on harvys will put the market into a better position for us all, he was prolly selling at 3k becuse of the decaying harvest method, now thats fixed hes prolly realised that selling at 3k hes making a loss.
Give it a little time.
I sell my factories for 55k. And people eat em up. I bet you could easily sell for 55k. Heck, last factory I sold for 65k and he bought it so very willingly. And solar power gens, I sell them for 28k and people buy those up. It's the stuff that people need they're willing to pay for, and the stuff the newbies can't make yet.
It's very interesting to see how economics are coming into play in this game...Thankfully, it's a little more realistic (compared to, say, UO where EVERYONE had a house, and you could hardly walk off the path without dodging houses...it was like trying to hunt in Brooklyn!)....I know eventually, it may get like that (hopefully it won't...but we'll see).
On Scylla Server, on Naboo particularly, I have noticed that there isn't a very big demand for 'high ticket' architect items....or houses for that matter (of any size). I know that the prices people charge for things (that I have seen) definitely do not match the effort put into making them...most people overcharge by a longshot...I haven't seen much market flooding or underselling as of yet.
Good thread, though....This is definitely a trend that should be watched...the market will influence our character development as an overall Profession....hopefully the market stays good =)
i am on Bloodfin...this is one of the reasons i am just about to give up...i make more off selling noobie crap than i do my profession....it just cost me tons of money...people are selling guns for 12K.......i cant even get 1/4 of that for a HOUSE....so i think fine i will just make mediums and larges....but the same thing is happening...factories and larger haverstors, too...anyway, i just refused to sell anything at those prices...i have a safe deposit box full of deeds...they are bound to come in handy 1 day...
as a sidenote, i have started to take a stand, i know they wont sell, but i defiatnly stand on the streets of bestine and shout SMALL HOUSES 18K...maybe, just maybe some young architect will think, 18K that sounds sweet, why am i selling for 3K?
We're the only crafting profession with people selling for cost. Armorsmiths, Weaponsmiths, Droid Engineers, and Master Artisans even charge 6-10 credits for thier merchandise. But when they come to you for a factory or house that takes 3-10x's more resources than thier merchandise they say your overcharging asking 4 to6credits.
It truly is ridiculous...I just saw someone selling a tusken rifle for 500k. We'll be lucky to see that much for a PA hall, and all that guy did was get lucky enough to pick up some loot! See Rancors going for 100k...
Apparently people believe that selling cheaper makes them reach master architect faster...when, in fact, it doesn't. It's nice to know that by the end of the summer every person in the galaxy will be living large in a large house they purchased for 10k...
I didn't pick this profession to make tons of cash...but, when I can't afford harvesters without running missions just because I try to charge 15k for a house, or 30k for a factory...there is something wrong. I must wonder though, what happens when there is no longer a market for houses? Harvesters and houses are fairly big ticket items that aren't supposed to be replaced....once the system is working as intended people will begin redeeding and paying maintenance on everything we can build rather than destroying and purchashing them again--THIS is why our items should cost.
I'm not going to argue with the idiots that feel they can sell houses under 10k and do so just because they think they're doing the world a favor or just want to do it at cost for the exp. These items should be expensive, they shouldn't be accessible to everyone simply because most people will not buy 2 houses (unless they upgrade sizes) ...and most people will not buy factories and harvesters over and over again when they can simply redeed them. Redeeding harvesters and such is supposed to be CHEAPER than going out and buying a new harvester...WHY would the cost of MOVING a harvester be higher than constructing a new one? People need to get a clue...otherwise the architect world will be ruined and the landscape will be littered with the trash they created. (Small houses galore--just because everyone could buy one for 3k)
