Thread: Why people pay a lot more for a blaster than a house

Houses are almost useless... Don't worry I'm going to back it up.

Anyway, check out this quote from a player:

" Why would you buy a house anyway? I mean it is a cool thing to have, but does it give you any specials or bonuses? If it doesn't then I really don't see the point"

This is the problem, at the moment, the only reason to get a house is to set up a vendor.Other than that, it is just a very expensive container. What can a house do for a bounty hunter? Players do not see why they would want one, and don't want to pay a lot of money for something which is essentailly useless. What need to be done is to make them useful....

Giving houses uses which directly benefit the player would be great. A blaster instantly makes you a better fighter, this is why people do not mind paying a few thousand for one. What to do? Something like the ability to clone free in your house would be a start. Then players would really benefit from them. I am not a game designer, so I am sure the devs can think of some more clever ways to make the house more useful. But we need things that will make people really want a house. Let's hope...

What are your thought, ideas on how to make the house better.

I wouldn't expect major changes in this area as I strongly doubt that it is considered desirable for everyone to want a house, remember the effect that had on UO.

Houses will only appeal to some people and I suspect we are stuck with that.

Its worse than that . . . your new blaster doesn't require you to pay maintenance every day. If houses were a nice item that had a one-time cost, people could better gauge whether they could afford that cost. As it is, I think they are a little bit hesitant.

Don't worry though, that will improve. People will tend to stockpile money, and eventually a lot of people will have enough cash that they feel comfortable taking the plunge.

Also, maintenance is really not very high, so you could probably help yourselves by educating people about what the rate really is. I think a lot of people have just heard about "maintenance", and are afraid of it.

Yeah, sell what you build. What are you doing with all the resources that you are paying maintance to dig up?
