I know player cities are far off, but I have discussed this idea with a couple of my friends and they all seem to like it. If this has been discussed please forgive me. I am not an architech.

Once the cities are introduced, I would like to see some sort of apartment style living. One day, a few months ago in beta, I was running in tyrena or somewhere on correllia and I was marveling at the huge high rises. All I could think about was how cool it would be to say I owned a penthouse in one of them, to be able to sit in my apartment on the 20th floor and look down at the hustle and bustle of life there.

Now we will get to make our own cities in a while, that is whyI am suggesting it for the player cities instead. You architechs could make skyscrapers, and have them built in the towns you designed. Maybe they could even make them variable, so that there is a maximum floors possible, like 100, but you could decide whenyou make them. So if you only need 50 floors, you can have it. We could also get it to be cheaper on your lots. I would try to say 0 lots for an apartment, because the city built the structure not you, and you just rent.

I know this would be very very hard, but I think it would change the way we play the game. Right now I play on chilastra, on naboo. I have a home outside kadaara and it's always a pain to run to town, then back out to my house. When the player cities are built, it willprettymuch become the same thing.Unless you are fortunate enough to be theretheminute they put the first houses down, you will be pushed farther and farther away fromthe downtown area. This would allow for a large amount of people in one close area, causing more player interaction because facilities would be right outside most everyones doors.

When you look at the cities too, they seem empty to me. All of the structures are sitting there unused and wasted. But imagine if we could live inside them I think something like this would help create a more real world feel. We would be in far more close proximity to each other, and it would help to save the landscape from the dreaded urban sprawl.

P.S. can you guys ask for real windows in ur next report Its soooo drab inside houses. I sure would like to see the nice landscape outside.

You know the architects get the top floor

i dont see it happening anytime soon though.

And I thought that the player cities were pretty close to being brought into being when they opened up the urban planner elite profession (need master architect to get it) and that it was a patch or two away?

They may be difficult to code, however I believe this to be a VERY good idea. We are all concerned with urban sprawl. You can only build out so much. It would be a great help if we had the option to build up instead.

I think that each floor of a skyscraper should bea Penthouse however. Perhaps coded as medium generic style 2 house (3 large rooms). How hard would that be to code? Outside it would look like a Skyscraper, you walk into the lobby get in the elevator and then "poof" you are in you "Penthouse".

Incentive to live in one is easy. Give us the space of a medium house but charge us the maintanance of a small house.

I hope the Devs take notice of this idea.

Even to allow apatment buildings like on Tatooine in Bestine I recall. They have 2 or three floors accessable by wierd looking starways. They may be one room affairs that come prefurnished with basics.

That would be great. You charge like 50 credits a day and they can store 50 items or something like that.

This is a great idea. I would love to see that in the game. If player cities are supposed to compete with the existing 'newbie' cities, then having skyscrapers is a must. That's what makes a city feel like a city.

Maybe you could have the number of floors tied into one of the Urban Planner trees. With like the 50 or 60 floor tower gained at Master UP.

The next logical step would be ownership. Would be cool if Merchants could 'own' an apartment building. Earn creditsin rent (ie the maintenance fees the players would pay). They could set the fee cost for each 'floor' and they would have to pay the actual building maint fee. Just like a real apt owner they could decide on their 'profit margin'.

Cool, I'm glad you guys like this idea. I understand that it would probably be very difficult to program, but I agree thatwith thebenefits for cities and players too, it would be worth the price to program.

I also love the idea to have ownership by the architech. There are a slew of possibilities here, who will be the first Donald Trump of SWG.
