Thread: Remove Re-deed options from houses!

Hiya all. I have been reading over the boards for the last few days and one of the concerns from the architects is a re-occuring income. Under the current system, once someone has a house they want and all of their harvestor, etc. There is no need for them to buy anything else. I have a few ideas to help the architects, myself being one of them. I used real-life examples then translated them into SWG systems. Please read though and provide your comments. If enough of use responed, maybe some of it will be changed. I have broken this up into 3 main catagories.

1.) House, Factories, and other large stuctures. (Not harvestors)

Real-life: People decide they want to own a home. They find a good location and either buy a house or build one. People on general, do NOT move house. Yes it can be done but usually if someone outgrows a house or just doesnt like it for some reason, they sell it and buy another. This also applies to factories, shopping centers, etc. I mean, how many different uses have you seen for that old safeway store, etc.

Translation into SWG: Remove the redeed option from houses, factories and other soon to be coming large structers. People will buy and house set it up. Pay maintance for regular upkeep and if they ever want to move, should try and sell it or just trash it. This opens up a lot of RP and other possiblities. Mabye introduce a estate market like the bazaar. Like your location but want to build a large house, maybe you will have to buy up the houses around you. etc etc.etc.

2.) Harvestor and Generators.

Real-life: Sure I have seen moblie oil rigs, water rigs, etc etc etc. There is usually daily stuff you should do to upkeep them, change the oil, polish the crome ,etc. You need power to run them. But even the best upkeep machines will break down from time to time. FIx them requires a specialist. I wish the last time my car broke down i could whip out the old car-repair-tool and BAMB! I am back on the road. Also ever notice how replacement parts seem to cost more.

Translation into SWG: The power requirements and maintance requirements are fine the way they are. But there needs to be another catagory like Component Maintance. Over time there should be a chance for one of the structures components to break. Lets work with a Heavy Mineral Mining Installion as an example. If one keeps it at 100% maintance all the time, then it should have a component break more than once every 6 months Real life time. If they dont upkeep the maintance then the chance increases. If the maintance falls below a certain level, say 25%, then there is a 100% of a component breaking. Redeed should not be a way out of fixing the component. So lets say one of the Generator Turbines breaks down. I should need to find and Architect that can build a Replacement Generator Turbine for my heavy. Replacement parts should not be like the orginal, should cost 2 to 3 times the resource cost to build, can not be used for new deed creations only broken-down harvestors. Architect must have the skill level to built the item in order to replace it in a harvestor. So I go out find Mr X. Architect who builds me a replacement part, comes out and installs it. I pay him lots of $$$$$ (Prices may vary) and I am back in business. Cost of the replacement part should not be greater than cost of a new harvestor. Harvestor should not work will part is broken. Sorry if some of these are DUH!, but I dont want anything missed or bugged

3.) Furniture or other smaller Items that do not currently have maintance.

Real-life: I go out and buy a couch. I have many parties, pets, etc etc, etc. In time I will need to replace it or I will see something I like better. Wear and tear is VIsible.

Translation into SWG: These items should have just a general time-based decay. But still long enough that owning it isnt a joke, say 6 months to a year. Condition should be graphically visible. Can be repaired by someone that can build it, not just someone that happens to have the correct tool. Also there should be more customization available, colors, patterns, textures, etc etc etc.

Well I hope this helps or at least starts a dicussion about it. I tried to give the architect a source of re-occuring income, but not make ownership of said object a joke. No one buys chairs that break every time you sit it them

I like and agree with all your points maybe a dev will hit the wrong button and stuble in the Arch forum andsee this. I think this would be a good way of creating a future for Arch's.

Good idea. Or maybe allow redeeding but have the redeed fee go straight into the architect's bank account. This would be akin to real life where architectural plansare often the intellectual property of the architect who designed them and must be licensed each time they are used by a builder.

I like the idea of an architect re-deeding the house, or some form of kit or whatever that allows it to be done. It may not have a major impact on things, but its some form of long term income.

While I can see the reasoning behind the thought, I disagee with it. I have a nice location for my house that I worked hard to get. I put a small house on it that I made, and when I could make medium houses, I upgraded to that. If I had not been able to put up the new house on the same lot, two things would have happened... I would have lost the lot and I would have not had the lots to place the medium house at all.

Perhaps there can be a new line of deeds called "upgrade" deeds that you buy so you can leave a house up somewhere and purchase an "upgrade". But not being able to redeed is a bad idea, in my opinion. I think it would hurt my business more than it would help. Right now I have customers I made small houses for coming back and buying mediums, and I resell the smalls.

I guess it all depends on the market, too. But in my opinion, for my situation, I like being able to redeed houses.

lol this won't revive the architect. what this would do is bring another money maker into the market. the realestate agent. and that has nothing to do with selling houses.. i've never seen a realiestate agent that is also a contractor heh architect is still screwd and i'm planing on droping it there is no money like the other classes

Really Really good ideas, but will be perfect with these slight changes

1. Just don't have houses redeeed period. Don't have resell or anything else. Just make it so if u want another place you have to buy a new deed. The whole estate thing is ok, but I just don't think it would be that good. Make it so their not redeedable.

Note: If your in a town the Major can move houses with ease to make the town look nicer, with out a cose of redeeding, maybe a base cost to move items, but still realtivly easy and cheap, maybe have to have a certain skill.

2. I really Like this idea, but for one thing. I don't want to be walking out to peoples harvesters all day. Make anyone able to put the new component in. Just make it so a component cost a good amount of materials, so an architect can make a decent income.

Other problem I see, is people could redeed a factory that has a broken component. Just treat it the same as not being able to redeed a harvester with not 100% (with a broken component I doubt it would be, but just to make sure there isnt a bunch of harvesters going for cheap that buyers dont know are broken)

3. Love the idea, perfect

While typing this I thought of something else. In order to redeed a harvester, people have to buy a tool. This tool can only be used once and can only be made by Architects. This "tool" should be relativly cheap to someone redeeding (maybe if u use the tool u dont have to pay to redeed it instead) but it should still cost enough to be profitable. Maybe around 100-200 resources. Would cost around 500-1000 probably. The consumer would have to buy probably about 5 of these, maybe up to 10. That's a decent amount of profit to the architect especially if consumers have to buy one everytime they redeed.

Another key to this really working, is make it available at Novice architect. With this Novice Architect can have a decent amount of income. The big archiects won't be making lots of these, or if they are the novice can still get in a good cut to survice. With Novices getting a good cut, the cheap architects will have less of a reason to sell so cheap just to get rid of it.

I like this idea a lot, and it would be easily implented. Make a new schmatic for a tool available at novice architect. Make it so harvesters can't redeed unless u have this tool on you. When redeeded tool is used up and deleted.

Now you letting greed get the better part of your judgement and say the heck with the other players, as long as I have an income coming in and feel useful, who cares how much it screws the other players over.

And where do you see people walking around with gunsopenly without getting arrested- animals bigger than 20 feet as pets - being able to travel from planet to planet - being killed and coming back to life within seconds - houses that can be built in less then 5 seconds and taken down just as quickly?

This game is not real life so we shouldn't complain that it isin't real enough because if it was it would end up like the sims - except allot better and without people with guns - what type of good game doesn't have guns?
