Thread: My working theory on critical fails

I have failed on a large number of heavies and such and I started to notice a trend. Especially when making the structure modules. After making 50 structure modules by hand for a medium house, and critting more then I though I should on something that easy I started to write down little things I noticed.

If I craft in the evenings when it's really laggy, I crit about 2 out of 10 structure modules and a wall module or two. I then started crafting the next morning and recorded the results. I combined 4 heavies and the structure modules for a medium house again. I failed on only one structure module out of 50.

Ok so next evening I started on a medium house again. Not only did I fail 2 out of 10 structure modules, but when I went to experiemnt, I crit on the experimentation, which reduced that category to 0%, about 30% of the time. I also failed on 1 of the 2 final combines.

Next morning, when there is usually no lag, I made 2 factories. I failed on 2 sturcture modules out of 60. No other fails and no crits when experimenting.

So the only thing I have I noticed is that when it's laggy, i crit alot more. packet loss? If the server doesn't get a response quick enough does it assume a fail? Any ideas?

Actually I noticed very close to the same thing. I failed5 wall modules last night and a medium house during a very laggy database period.. I think this should be brought to dev's attention

Well i know it seems silly, but i seem to critical a lot lot more if i wait too much with the crafting station opened in the window where i pick up the resources. Almost every time i have to wait some time there, comes the critical.

Sounds silly but goes along with your lag-thing

Back when I was a newbie architect building small houses, I rarely ever crit failed. Once in awhile I would but nothing like I do now. Last night I was building some houses to fill an order. I was crit failing on structure blocks left and right. It was about 9-12pm est. I failed 4 structure modules in a row. This is WAY too much crit failing now. I lost 15 structure modules out of 100 or so I made. LUCKILY I did not crit on a wall or the 2 medium houses I made. I already lost 1 medium and I was so pissed off at the BS.

It's total BS that we crit on the final combine of houses and harvesters. I have heard of people failing 2 PA halls in a row. That's just total BS. We should not loose the entire thing when we already crit on the components.

BTW, I am at Buildings 3, installations 2 and furniture 2 with nothing in construction.

Seems like I crit more now than I did as a newbie with buildings 1 only.

I have had similar problems. How do we get a dev to come and take a look at this. It would be nice to know if what Og has proposed is impossible or possible. I have no idea what happens behind the scenes when you click assemble. But if there is a possibility of lag causing crits, it would be nice to get it fixed.

i hate to say this, but i have never failed on a large structure. ever (well except for the pa hall back in beta but that was before i knew about resource properties)

I failed a medium harvester ONCE and thats because i used some really crappy DR ore in the final assembly.

I also failed on a Factory Once because of the very same reason.

My advice to yall is...

Get to furniture 4 at a minumum before anything else.

Focus on finding resources that have high Decay resistance and Unit Toughness.

They need to add 3 different Carb ore and 3 diff Sil Ore at the same time like you have 4,5 or more steel. Why are we always limited to 1 Sil ore and 1 Carb Ore and the highest concentrations are always out in the ocean? Why is it you can find 90%+ Steel and Aluminum concentrations but, the most I have evern seen is 65% Ore?

If they would give us decent ore and in decent concentrations, it might be a lot easier to find and use better quality. What they have now is crap.

try whatever you like to make it work. better resources, higher tools and crafting stations, dancing with live chickens while you put a sock on your head. I don't know that any of these things truly make a difference.

I have only critted on 2 final assemblies so far. 1 medium house, 1 small house. thats it. I don't look for the best resources, my crafting station shows negative effectiveness... in fact, i only go to it when I have to for final assemblies, i did upgrade my tool to a 14.94 effectiveness, but my general crafting tool is only like 6 and when I decide to run off a series of structure modules or walls by hand instead of in the factory, it seems I am more likely to crit with the structure tool than with the general tool.

do what you like, but I think its coding that may be the problem or issue here, nothing else.
