Thread: Resource availability needs to be revisited

Hello again.

I spoke up about this subject when others did during the first few weeks after release. It appears little or nothing has been done to fix the problem.

Currently no single resource exists for more than five days. Five days is even a generous estimation by my experience.

Since it has been forced upon me to do so, I've struck up a bargain with a business partner. He gathers resources and sells them in bulk. I am now his only customer (since programmers were so kind in making architecture require that you have a good 30 lots worth of harvesters running, bah) and I supply the power so that he can concentrate all his lots on harvesting ingredients for me.

Well, on Saturday, I watched as a new vein of radioactive energy popped up on Naboo / Scylla server. I was so happy to see it because I had just finished bangin' out my first fusion ion generators. Soooo, of course, I took full advantage and put all three generators down on an 80% spawn.

I really like the numbers I was pulling in on that power and it was quite enough to keep this guy busy. But I just got a call from him (yeah, I'm at work) telling me that he just hit up the harvs and there isn't any radioactive on the planet anymore! Uhm....w.t.f. is that?

Just for those who read this at a later date, it's only Wednesday. So, this resource stuck around for... what?... three days?

Who the hell can go on a real life vacation and still hope to play this game?
Did anyone ever pay attention to the massive amounts of pleas people put in asking (and demanding) that resources stick around for longer amounts of time?

I really don't care if they run on a finite amount planet-wide. The number of spawns and the efficiency of spawns are also controllable. No casual (hell, I'm semi-hardcore and find it a full time job to keep up) gamer could ever dream of being a resource salesman at this rate!

Don't tell me it's not possible because it is. Problem is that it would take a little detailed math to figure it out.

I just think that if resources are going to disappear for 48 hours after they become depleted on a planetary basis, they should at least stick around for two weeks! Anyone actually paying attention to the world outside of SWG (I know, shocker, right?) would be able to understand the player's desire to fire up those harvesters and know that they can load them up for five days and walk away when the resource is brand-spankin' new.

Please, for the love of GOD, give us longer on the resources!!!! You have a problem when people are forced to fly to three different planets EVERY OTHER DAY just to keep up with manufacturing levels for structures. No, I'm not selling them, just trying to make ones for the other player I deal withto use.

Interesting idea

I think that would be an excellent answer to the issues I am dealing with.

For instance, if power resources stuck around for a full week, I wouldn't actually have to feel like I must totally shut down everything I've worked so hard to get going only so that I can take one stupid week's vacation.

Timing on resource shifts really sucks. Problem is you get people bitching both ways. Weaponsmiths want resource shifts more frequently so they can get the rare stuff more often. Us architects and miners want them much more spread out. Everyone wants them timed to the weekends not Tuesday during the middle of the day.

Supposedly when working resource shifts will be like every other part of the game, affected by random numbers. Supposedly also the amount of people extracting on a given vein is supposed to have an effect.

I think they need to find some middle groud to help out the casual player.

Type 1 resource shifts every 10-15 days

Type 2 resource shifts every 5-10 days

Type 3 resource shifts within 5 days

Ore, wind, and run of the mill stuff 500 OQ and less be type 1 and so on.
