Let me begin by clearly stating that the current decay rate for weapons and armor do not need acceleration.

Crafted items can be split into 2 groups:

A) consumables ie....spices, food,stimpacks...etc

B)durables ie....homes, tools,crafting stations,clothes...etc

I believe thatconsumables should not have a decay rate, and guns and armor should be classified as consumables.

Durables should have a natural time based decay rate (that has nothing to do with dying). To make this acceptable to the player community, the durables should be able to be enhanced through loot drops.

Examples:

An energy efficient attachment that reduces maintenance fees on homes. An engineering improvement that increase hopper capacity. A new power source that increases the range of a survey tool. There are countless enhancements that can be conceived. Loot suddenly becomes worthwhile. Crafters are assured of a continuing market. There is something in this for everybody.
