Thread: Any use of balconies in the future?

Hey all. I don't come around here much, but I had a question. Large and medium homes, along with guild halls, and numerous other buildings(that blasted player theatre among them) all have a huge amount of outdoor space for the most part, whether it be the small balcony on the medium Naboo, large patio and bridge on the large Naboo, etc, all these areas have great potential for decoration. In face, the theatre is even a necessity, the bloody stage is outside!

But, so far, we can't drop items on these balconies, stages, etc. Since you guys make the buildings, I thought I'd ask here: is there any clue if this is something being worked on(though I realize not a priority)? Will we at some point be able to drop items on our outdoor patios, balconies, and stages?

I figure this could be an issue, at least with the theatre...why would I buy a theatre if A) I can't drop an omnibox or nalargon on the stage, and B) we can't heal our audience, because we're outside?

Any clue at all, anyone? It'd be nice to see this feature, the patio on the large Naboo has great potential for a huge outdoor garden...

i agree balconys should be part of our propety free for us to drop plants chairs etc on, whats the point of having a balcony if you cant put chairs down for you and your friends to sit on while having jawa beer and a game of dice

As some people have pointed out here before, although this "makes sense" to us from a "walking around inside my house" perspective as a character, there are likely some technical issues that will work against them implementing them. For example, right now when you walk into a building there can be a noticable delay before your furnishings show up. That was triggered by you walking into the door of your house.

You can see a similar thing when you are racing along on your bike, particularly with any sort of lag - there is a delay between you moving into an area and the exterior of building appear.

But notice that the building exteriors are all standard.

Imagine if you had your balcony / roof with tables and stuff all set up. Then when I race by on my bike the system has to load and paint not only the exterior of the house, but also load any of your furnishings that are visible from the outside. The additional load on the system would likely be a lot.

Again, I agree with you - those balconies and roofs are *begging* to have furniture on them. But I don't think we'll see it soon.

I only found one use for my balconyso far. When I want to macro for example walls (quicker than the factory) and so I need to be away from my crafting station, I generally want to leave the building to make sure I am far enough away. The balcony comes in handy, it is outside, but as far as I know I cannot be mobbed up there. I also keep dry when it rains...

They could enclose the house in a portal. Say in order to see the stuff thats on the patio you would have to be on the property thus penetrating the portal zone, thus rendering objects there.

And fix Corellia Medium houses!!!! They are weak compared to the two other ones!

My boss nerfed me. He says Im not allowed to surf the SWG forums as long as he's around.
