Thread: Who ever the correspondant dude is: DO SOMETHING ABOUT FACTORIES
10%IS nothing and you are insane...
there is no reason they shouldnt give XP...i should not be made to click, click, click click click...that is dull and tedious..why should using a CRAFTING TOOL be any different than using a factory...think of it as a BIG crafting tool
I am forced also to waste money and resources on a factory that is now worthless..
I will be totally honest and straightforward.
I reached master architect a few days ago. I put up a factory about 2/3 the way there, when it became apparent that the 100% xp was going to be around for a while, and when I figured I would get a better yield on structural blocks with no crit fails, and when I realized that I would need the factory for large houses.
In the end, the xp did almost nothing for me. It saved me some time where I could run around and maintain harvesters. All this meant was that I could save 30 minutes a day of play time that I would have had to do anyway. A factory is not a set it and forget it thing.. you cant travel even via shuttle, nor log off if you are going to get the xp, at least when it was 100 percent.. I didnt have the resources to set it and log.. I NEEDED to get the xp, and the factory is slower than I am at producing blocks..
Now, my progression through the tree was 100% solo. I have a partner that I work with, but aside from a few missions at the early artisan level, if anything, I was supporting my partner, not vice-versa. I did have more lots than a single player available to me, but I paid for 100% of the maintenance myself. There were days I ran on 10k credits in the bank, and there were days I had 200k credits. I was averaging 35k per day for maintenance that ranged from 10k per day to 55k per day through my leveling. My progression was purely determined by resources, and I never logged off without having used every bit of the resources I had possible. When I was out, the day was over. I reached master in what.. 3 weeks?
Now if I were a PA funded architect, having a factory as soon as possible would have made me a master in less than half the time. As soon as resources were flowing, the factory(s) would have been pumping me full of xp for the entire time I was online. At a rate of 500 per minute for blocks, times the number of factories, Master was just a technicality I would have had before building PA halls.. This is not acceptable. It is too easy to reach master if the resources are not limited, and if you have 20 people gathering resources and money to fund resources, then the time you spend crafting is the only limitation on how fast you level.
This being said, it is obvious to me that xp from a factory is only important to a weaponsmith or armorsmith where they have to craft 50 or 100 times the number of products to reach the same xp level. That is GRIND central. I can acheive 80-120k xp in a 6 hour period with 15 lots running harvesters (medium and small) and produce 50-150k of real estate on a 1:3 ratio basis with an overhead of less than 40k. This is at a second tier level and up. I didnt always get that much xp, as resource shifts, and critical fails got in my way on more than one occasion. Running 1 factory (2 lots) for 6 hours would be great at 100 percent xp, but my resources allowed for maybe 75 blocks per day if I wanted to make finished goods. So if all I did were grind, and not associate with customers and run harvesters, I could get around 40k xp with the factory, and 40-80k in components that werent feasible to run in the factory, and final assemblies. After 2 hours of grinding by hand, the factories are finished, and now I am out of resources. I have my 80-120k xp but I am tapped, I have ignored my customers, and I have to run maintenance on my harvesters still. Without the factory, I spend 30-45 minutes grinding the blocks, and do a dozen at a time so I can chat with customers in between. In the 6 hours, I gained nothing by using the factory.. except maybe I coulda logged off at 5 hours.. and gotten some sleep.
Basically, what I am saying is that as an architect, the only people that were gaining from 100 percent xp were people too lazy to click a few more buttons, or people with unlimited resources, who were progressing too fast to begin with. This is not a nerf for us. Now tailors, armorsmiths, and weaponsmiths have it rough, and DE's get to sit around and craft worthless parts by hand, but us architects can still go up the tree exceptionally fast. I only wish the factory was not running 100% 4 weeks ago. Then there would maybe be 1 or 2 at most uber-hardcore players that are master weapon, armor, or droid engineers, and a few less master archys.. and the people that pay in this game would be itching to get out of their mabari armor and d18 pistols.. The economy would be much more stable, and those that put massive hours in would be rewarded with being able to sell elite products. By the time master anything was commonplace, more bugs would be fixed, and some of the professions would be more worthwhile.
But all that aside, if you are relying on a factory to get xp as an architect, then you dont deserve to get the title of master.
BTW, I got more xp from my factory AFTER reaching master than before, and that amt is around 120k. Until the last 4 skills, I was hardly able to use the factory.. I was doing most by hand.. and my resources trickled in.. I realized one day that if I saved for a while, I can make a big factory run and be able to run more in the factory at once, and spend the time preparing for bigger projects. I never needed the factory for xp though.. but it was convenient.. saved me some clicks. I would still have made master in the time frame..
Factories give less exp because they require no effort from the player to produce their items. I dunno about you, but I don't think I'd get better at building cars because I can flip a switch to turn on the car factory.
As far as speed, this is a situation again that reflects the lack of effort required to use the factory. Rewards come with effort. Faster production is a reward. If you want it now, make it yourself.
Here's my 2 credits:
I need 4 more skill "bubbles" for Master Architect. I haven't yet used a factory. I finally built myself one day before yesterday, right before they changed the XP.
Am I sad?
Nope, I've made it all this way without even using one, and how long has the game been out? I'm not losing anything with this "nerf" except that other Architects will have to put in the same manual work I did. I didn't find it difficult at all. I didn't find myself clik-clik-cliking all day either. I crafted orders, and they got me XP, I never really even thought about a factory.
My point is this, I realize some of you are upset over this, but it's really NOT that hard to get there without a factory, so is it really worth getting yourself that upset over?
terrorbeat, the best thing about a factory for architect is the ability to mass produce structural modules.
Also just thought of an important factor, some things REQUIRE the use of a factory. So making certain things is forcing you to not get as much xp as you would think.
As I see it, the problem with factories now is that there's no incentive for anyone but a Master in their profession to use them (unless they need identical items). They give crap experience, so why on Earth would anyone but those who don't need to worry about xp use one? It's just one more thing people aren't going to want to buy from us now (as much).
I personally love(d) factories because they saved me the monotony and repitition of clicking the same things over and over again. You throw your stuff in, turn it on, and you're free to socialize or work on other professions or any number of things. Now that extra bit of free time that you had to enjoy yourself a little more is consumed by click, click, clicking (if you're the type that wants to keep up with the Joneses).

factories are fine...
Just FIX the crates letting items out, and make it so power cores, just don't disapear and have to make em in mass, it's just annoying!
