Thread: Why do people continue to complain on pricing?

I would like to think my prices are fair and similar to what other architects are charging.

10k for small house

65k for Medium House

135k for Large House

I get many tells a day asking me "How much to you sell xxx for?" Then when I tell them, I must endure a five minute lecture from them on why my prices are so high. I even had someone tell me, "It's not a REAL house!" I greatly enjoyed telling the poor child, "Its not REAL credits you are paying!"

Do people not understand that a house WILL cost them a bit? Its not a tool or a weapon to put in their backpack, but one of the character defining items!! We have many crafters in my PA, and they rarely get tells from people bartering with them over prices. Talk about frustrating.

Just do what I do, tell the person to bring you the resources and charge him a flat labor fee. They usually change their tone when they find out how many resources are involved.

Could you post a list of resources for each type of house and the flat rate fee. I like the sound of that. Save me money but you still get the cash.

Tell them how many credits/resource your price works out to. Direct them to a website that lists schematics requirements if they don't believe you. You're selling your medium houses for under 3 cr/resource (I think), which is pretty darn cheap. I sell mine for 85k (I don't sell many, but I'm not hurting for cash right now).

I completely agree. I always get the standard conversation:

/tell from customer: Hi. Do you sell houses?

me: Yes, small, medium, and some large at present?

/tell from customer: How much is a small house?

me: 12,500 credits, less if you're a repeat customer

/tell from customer: Holy &%*$! You're making good money! Why are you charging so much?!?!

me: They take a lot of resources. I can give you a discount if you supply the resources.

/tell from customer: How many resources does it take for a generic planet house?

me: 50 steel, 18 chemical, 860 metal, and 2460 ore

/tell from customer: 2460 ore!!! That's a lot!

me: Yeah, it takes me a little time to harvest it.

/tell from customer: Now I know why you charge so much.

me: Yep. Are you interested in a house?

/tell from customer: No. It costs too much.

The bad part about this conversation is that I don't get the business even if I haggle the price down a little. The good news is that my customers walk away with an understanding of how difficult it is to construct a house.

I play a Teras Kasi/Creature Handler, the few hours a day i play i rack up 40k easily. If i could actually play 10 hours in 1 day i'd easily make the 130k needed for a large house.

So people, stop complaining. Learn to blitz missions, get a pack of cigarettes and some bawls (the drink not mispelled genital), sit down and blitz missions. You'll make creds like crazy. It takes days for Architects to get the ressources needed for a large house. You'll make the creds in 1 day. Shut up, blitz missions, buy a house.

Ill post what i know on resources. (im not posting every single exact resource just the bulk amounts, every other resource will be classed as other to make up the total)

Personal Wind Gen:

160 metal

50 Ore

90 other resources

Personal Extractor:

120 metal

60 Ore

110 other

Factories:

7600 Ore

2600 Metal

1100 Aluminium

2750 other

Small House:

2460 Ore

900 Metal

70 other

Med House:

14000 Ore

6000 Metal

1650 Other

Lrg House

27000 Ore

11000 Metal

2575 Other

Hope that makes you all realise that 65k and 135k (i think original poster quoted?) for med and lrg houses is perfectly acceptable and is still below the market value.

To all the other archys out there , stick to your prices, or dont bother with houses if its too much trouble .. furniture sells for more per resource cost than houses do. Just a tip.

They complain because they are solo architects who are casual gamers. They don't have time to deal with resource shifts or to wait 4 days to get the resources for a PA Hall. If they aren't complaining about this its about critical failures. I have yet to see a guilded architect complain about either one of these issues. I sell my houses for similar prices, and have no trouble attaining the resources to build them. My favorite quote from someone was :

"2460 low grade ore is easy to get. When I get to novice architect I will sell houses for 2k. 12k is way too much for a small house. You are gouging your customers."

The truth about architecture is if you can't afford to spend the time, the money, and take the risk, then don't be an architect. The game has to be balanced it just can't be easy and fun all the time.

Heres my typical conversation.

How much are your small houses?

20K.

Wow, thats alot. There's people selling them for 10K.

Well I started selling the resources, that's what I can make by selling the resources instead of making you a house. You should go buy the one for 10K, that's a great deal your getting.

OK, thx.

Drrlykk,

Is it fair to label a player as a complainer because they chose a profession that at the moment requires alot of time investment?

Id rather label sony for not tellingthem that this was the case.

The game is suppose to be available to anyone who pays the subscription and with any tools included in that game, like the architect profession.

Another thing a lot of people don't understand is how difficult it is to assemble buildings. Most non-crafter types have this impression of what it takes them to make their camps or craft those CDEF weapons they made when they were newbs. They think you plug in all the resources and hit combine and viola, it's ready. I had a guy who thought I was fleecing him about large harvesters. I couldn't build them at the time so he was talking to my guild's master architect. He told this guy that he would charge 10k if the guy brought the resources. He thought it was outrageous that we would charge 10k for 30 seconds of work. I almost laughed out loud at that one. Once I explained to him how painstaking a process it is to make a large harvester (much less a medium or a factory or whatever), he changed his tone a little bit.

Yeah I told my prices to some one (15kfor small,70k for medium)and some other guy goes "man those prices are jacked" or something like that, because he got his large house for 100k. I told him either he bought it from some one who doesn't care, or can't do math.

The fact is 99% of Architects sell their homes for less, or just above the market value for what theresources would cost (3-4 credits per). That's pretty **edit** crappy if you ask me, even though I do it too. I think we're the only profession that puts so little worth into their wares.

Well except for furniture, man I really STICK it to them there! Buwahahaha! er I mean.. um.. *runs off*

Send anybody who whines about prices to www.swgcraft.com so they can see how many resources go into the items they're asking for. That site sobered me up about the prospects of buying a LOT of items for anything but top dollar.
