Thread: Architect decay ideas
Now I know this has all been discussed ad nauseum but I would like to add my 2 creds to the debate as to how the architect profession can be kept viable and profitable.
1. Houses SHOULD NOT be re-deedable. If you want a new house IRL do you pick up your old house and move it down the street? (trailer parks excluded) No, you buy a new house and either move to a new area or tear down the old one and build on the same spot. The problem with re-deeding houses is that when a person buys a new house now they have an old deed to get rid of which they normally do for a ridiculously low rate, thus undercutting the architects who are trying to sell newly built houses.
If you want to move to a new location you should have to buy a new house. This would also create a new secondary market of people selling their existing homes in their present locations....the way buying a house works IRL. They would advertise how great the location is, the view, the accessibility to amenities, etc and prehaps sell the house at a higher rate because of these factors. Want a spot in that new Player City or near that theme park? Buy and existing house and pay a premium for the land.
2. Furniture SHOULD decay. This is simple, houses, factories and extractors take maintenance but furniture costs nothing to maintain, therefore it should decay. The rate of decay should not be excessive and should be based on online time. When your furniture decays to below 50% you should receive a message.
3. Harvesters SHOULD require periodical replacement parts. Because of resource shifts, allowing harvesters to be re-deeded is fair, however they should require new generators or harvesting mechanisms every so often to keep running. I know we already pay maintenance but, as an example, if I keep my car in excellent condition, change the oil, rotate the tires and bring it for regular tune-ups that doesn't mean that at some point my engine or my transmission won't go on me. The same applies to harvesters, paying maintenance is what keeps it running but it should not preclude it from needing periodic repair work and replacement parts.
4. Factories SHOULD NOT be re-deedable, same concept here as houses. You cannot pick up a factory and move it down the street!....you have to build a new one. An unwanted factory could also then be sold, in its current location, to another individual or destroyed. Factories should also be governed by the same requirement for replacement parts, etc, as harvesters.
Some of these ideas have already been mentioned in some form I know, but I think this is the best combination of ideas that makes the architect profession more viable and more profitable in the long term.

That would be fine, except for the fact that you're talking about huge costs for people to own, maintain, and furnish a house. How is that gonna help architects?
Replacement parts for Extractors? Expensive, and would get extremely tiresome and disruptive to all professions who bank or steady flow of resources.
As far as making houses non redeedable, that isn't the best thing for anyone. Not everyone has a great spot, and there will always be some knob that parks a factory right in the middle of someones "view". It can also cause problems because sometimes wierd things happen.... a lair spawns in your doorway, your house disappears, etc..... I agree it would be nice to mkae things more "IRL" but thats just not possible, people can't run up 90 degree cliffs, take multiple energy blaster shots before dieing, IRL people don't clone and come back to life. The only thing I'd like to see is more customizable houses... carpet, paintings on the walls, a larger variety of furniture. Those are things lots of Architects would like.
Wow, I believe I agree with every single point the origonal poster presented.
What do you think ofHervester Enhancersthat degrade over 24-48 hours as the harvester is used? Such enhancers could make the machine run more efficiently to reduce maint cost, reduce power consumption, or increase the extraction rate.
Harvester terminals that allow remote viewing of the harvester status (not remote payments), that need to be replaced with each harvester move?
As for houses and furniture, that's a tough one. Turn over only comes when a player wants to redecorate and needs different furniture. Architects are supposed to build things that last a long time. I don't agree with decay on these items. My main problem with furniture decaying is that it's such a pain to decorate. I am torn on being able to movehouses or not. Perhaps small houses can be deeded, but not large ones?
What Architects should be able to do is build the components and buildingsfor faction bases, since they can be destroyed.... hmmm
-Faction member wants to build a base.
-Faction member pays "X" faction points for a single use schematic for specific buildings.
-Schematics are then given to an Architect so he/she can build a deed for these consumable buildings (no chance for failures).
-Architect receives some faction points based on the complexity of the item made. (not to mention getting paid by the faction member for the building)
My two cents from a dabbling architect
