Holocron Q-3P0 Blair feel free to read this.

Ok, what is one of the issues of house decay? No one wants to log on and have their house gone and all their possessions gone. Well, at least that is why I would hate decay. I would hate to have to craft things for myself anymore then I have to.

My idea:

As a house reaches certain lvls of decay, the amount of itemsa person can store reduces, and the house visually starts to look decrepit. Missing bricks, plaster holes in the wall... roaches running across the floor. Doors stop working correctly. Lighting stops working. Things like that. You won't lose your house but you won't be able to retrieve items in the house untill it's repaired. Make structures take a third kind of maitenance. Sort of like how dorids can be given batteries a house can be given repair modules. They bring the house back up to 1000/1000 and then it starts to decay again, based on inherant experimented durabilty. It gives us something more to craft that is needed forever and we can charge a good price for it. Think of it as the architets pistol or the armorsmiths gloves. Won't take a lot to make and we can charge decently for it.

1k for something that takes 50 resources to make. People will finally buy an architectural product for the value of the item, and not the resources used to make it.

Constructive comments please.

From what I gather, the point of this game was to try to make a game that was as realistic as possible. In real life, you can plug up holes in houses indefinitely as long as maintenance is paid. Now, let's go ahead and look at this from an in-game vs IRL view.

In-Game, small houses go for an avg of 10K. So, compare that to your average brand new two bedroom house....what maybe 60K fora new one in a decent, but not great neighborhood. Ok, so that's 6 times as much. Now, maint on a small house in the game is 400 credits per day, or about 12,000 credits per month. Now, let's take that into real life. Let's say that you bought a house in real life for $60K, and then payed $72K in maintenance toward the house each and every month. Do you think it would EVER decay enough to where it wouldn't stand? Heck no. If $72K of maint was paid per month on a two bedroom house, the house would look BRAND NEW...ALL THE TIME. Any holes that were there would INSTANTLY be patched up, and any boards, roofing, flooring, ceilings that needed replacing could EASILY be replaced. The house would never decay. So, if maint fees are to stay in the game for houses, then houses should NEVER decay...i don't care what it does to our business...no one should have to worry about decay when paying that much for a house in maint.

Now, if the devs wanted to take out maint cost completely on houses, and allow archs to make housing repair kits (that would roughly be about the same cost as maint on houses), then by all means...that's a GREAT idea.

But, Houses, as they are now, should NEVER decay...else you just take one more step away from reality. And, the realistic natureof this game is one of the biggest attractions to me.

Yes, but the problem with comparing it to a real life system is that people don't build houses to grind for xp and sell them dirt cheap. The economy for housing and construction is RISING because they ARE so costly and high-maintenance, and they are more in demand because the population is increasing, and because older ones are decaying and people are moving on to better houses. The system has already departed from reality. The object is to make it as fun as possible and to work as much reality into it as is possible, or a more importantly, as much as is fun. It's the idea of a game to take the fun parts of reality and work it into a challenging, but acheivable, system that allows for advancement and growth. Yes, skill growth is implemented, mainly through grinding and underselling, but professional growth is severly limited for exactly the reason that skill growth IS possible. Every Artisan who crafts himself to Architect is essentially working himself out of a job, because he's decreasing market value or his products, as well as making himself unneccesary because there is a finite need for non-decaying structures.

Good thoughts though.

House maintenance kits sounds cool. It'd be cool if everytime your maintenance kit was used, some maintenance fees were sent to the architect

THATS A FREAKIN GREAT IDEA, make it so a certain % of the maitenance paid on a house that an architect made was sent back to that architech , so its like the UXP or whatever only it REALLY helps us archs out (depending on the % 1% wont cut it and 25% is a bit too much) but that would make architects have a reason to make houses and sell them it would add a new element to the economy. do this and i think the architech can be saved.

I have posted this almost identical idea about a month or so ago.
