If i buy a good one at sayfunctionality 42.. is it signifficantly better than a public one?.. will it give me better experimentation? or is the only point to one of these that u can craft in yourown building?and how much should i expect to pay for one? one guys quoted me at functionalitynumber x 1000cr, someone else i've seen selling them for 70k

any help appreciated

price is different on each server.

some draft schimatics require the use of a private crafting station for them to show up in the list when you boot the crafting tool. if you are not at a private crafting station then they are not available for you to make.

some just say crafting station, others say private crafting station... if you wish to build to higher end items in what ever crafting prefession you belong to then you must have one.

not 100% sure myself about the differences between low rated stations and higher rated ones... think it has to do with crit fails and experimentation results.

hmm oh ok so THAT'S how i use draft schematics i've created.. looks like i definately need one then..

can anyone help on the issue of does highfunctionality number = more experimentation?

You can't use draft schematics that you have made in a crafting station. They are only for factories, where you make the schematic, experiment to the best (say a BER 13 Heavy Minieral Mining Installation), and then using the same componants you made the schematic with, make a factory run of Installations.

Public Stations allow you to make items up to complexity around 25 or so. ( I can't find the information on Allakhazam right now), and the private is requred for anything above that number.

Yes, at some point in your crafting you will want to craft schematics that *require* a private crafting station. That, plus the convenience of crafting in your house, mean that you should get yourself a private crafting station.

The public crafting stations are Functionality Rating = 0.0.

Private stations can go from -45 to +45.

As far as I know, there has only been one set of experiments run and reported on regarding how the Rating of the station effected crafting. It showed no difference between a lower rated station and a higher rated station. However, there were a lot of variables that the person running the test didn't check for (it was a Master making very low complexity items, IIRC) so I don't feel that it proved very much.

There are people out there that believe that higher rated stations make a difference and those who believe that they don't, but those beliefs (on both sides) are based on personal experience and stories from others.

I bought some 42.xx stations because I think it makes a difference, but your experience may be different.

My suggestion is get yourself a "basic" station (with a rating of 14.xx) and put it in your house. You should be able to pick one up for 5-10K I would think. Then you have all the capability you need - you'll be able to make any schematic that you are qualified for. Then as your fortunes rise and you get more experience with more complex schematics you can think about a higher rated (more expensive) one if you want to.

As a Master architect who has been around since beta 2. I can tell you that there is no difference in the quality of a personal crafting machine. I personally use a -32% crafting machine not because i can't make anything better but there is no point to it.I make maxed out harvesters all the time. Anyone who tells you different is justout to make extra cash on them not that there isnt anything wrong with that.

Dev's have said nothing. Opinions amonst players differ. Some people swear up and down that they are better and some people are convinced they don't do anything or even that they are worse. I've seen some experimentation done but I'm not personally convinced that it was conclusive or statistically meaningful. I sell them myself but when asked tell customers that I really honestly don't know what the impact of them is and then they buy one. For most master crafters another 40k-100k or whatever they go for isn't going to be too much investment for the possibility that they might make a difference. You earn that back by avoiding just a couple failed experimentations.

Huan I wrote an FAQ on the topic and tacked it to the end of the FAQ thread. I gave the link you refer to as a reference.
