Thread: Ambient Light in Houses

With the coming of the new lamps, candles, etc... is it possible to get the ambient light level in houses turned down a bit so that the "glow" of the light source is more pronounced? I'm picturing a dimly lit office with a lamp or candle, now resting nicely on the desk due to the up/down command, casting a soft pool of light on the table, creating a focal point for the eye as you enter the room. (What an odd sentence that turned out to be. I feel a bit like Hemmingway.)

If this is possible, is it possible to remove lamps from the item count in houses? I know this probably isn't possible, or would be a coding nightmare so perhaps upping the item limit on homes by 10, 20, & 30 for small, medium, and large houses respectively to accomodate the new lights.

I've been playing long enough to know that neither of these is likely to happen, but I also know that unless it's brought up, it will NEVER happen.

So there is it. Perhaps Dvnce can talk to TH about it.

It would be interesting to have a dimmer on the structure terminal to go from normal corellian level down to noobian level and back up on all structures (including those dim mansions in the swamplands) that way people have the option of having the candle lit dinner table and such, but if you sort of just enforced it with the deed so that every room became darker then it is now people will have to use lamps in every room instead of being able to pick and choose. This will hurt the item count and the decorative/storage abilities of the homeowner so I would prefer it to be a dimmer like I suggested or not at all. Interesting idea though, and deffinitely will win some support I'm sure.

Oh, and they won't up the item limit by 2 on PA halls it seems, so I wouldn't hold my breath for smalls no matter the reasonable assertions backing up the idea.

(sorry, had to )

I realllly like this idea.... and the picture you painted was perfect! I could think of so many ways to position lighting to make a cool scene. And hey, if they can turn up the lights on Dathomir, then we know they can turn them down in houses! /cackle

Turning down lighting levels in all non-Naboo houses to that currently found in Naboo houses
would seem to be a fairly easy fix, and give some real utility to the new light sources. I know I sold tons more torches on Naboo than I do on Corellia.

And deactivate the Naboo-house internal lights. The little laps on the walls.

Maybe use a Shutter value for ambient light. So if the window shutters are closed,

its dark, and if they are open the light levelin the house is like outside.

With shutters i mean not to look out of the windows. just to take over the Countryside

light value.. or have it dark. and lit by lamps/Torches.

And: May we have fireplaces?

I like the dimmer idea.I'd throw a fit if it was an across the board dimming, though, since you already can't see worth a flip in Naboo houses (especially smalls)without using your personal light. Another thing that would be nice is if streetlamps would operate around the clock. I know they weren't really intended for houses, but they look nice and right now they're the only other source of light besides those pesky torches. Of course we'll be getting new lights soon so the streetlamps may fall out of use,but still....the new lightsmight be ugly or something(what were they thinking with those table top lamps? *cringe*).
