I not sure if this is the right fourm to ask this but since you make factorys and use them im sure its the closest to use.
I made a small factory run of a component with subcomponents this morning. to help me with restocking several crates, i keep sub components in packs with the name (serial #) quantity and store them on a vendor. so i took the required subs and the resourses threw them in the factory started it up then logged.
The question i have is i dont know if i took the subs out of the packs, will the factory pull the components from the crates in packs or do they need to be lose in the ingrediant hopper?

Yes. They will not see them inside the packs I am guessing. Remember you are not supposed to store stuff on vendors.

Factory ingredients have to be in the hopper itself.
Items in containers will not be used.
This is actually very convenient because you can put 1000 items worth of components in a pack and store it in a factory but only pull out enough to make 100 at a time and leave the rest in the pack.
