Thread: Just getting back into harvesting -- there are a lot of broken things....

Since when did the harvesters stop moving? no longer can you look out over a field of harvesters and instantly spot one that is sitting idle. it's a royal pain to have to go to each harvester and manually check to make sure that it's pulling something up.

when a resource shifts out, the harvester sits there pulling it up at 0%. when you switch it to a different resource, it APPEARS to continue harvesting, but it has actually stopped. you have to actually close down the whole window, open it up again, and press the start button. didn't use to have to do that

using harvesters now takes a LOT more time. is it broken or is this part of new game design? are there plans to fix any of this?

I doubt that most of the people currently playing even remember when harvesters animated persistently. That was broken more than six months ago, and so far the only recognition on the forums I've ever seen that this ever happened was when I posted in a weekly feedback thread and got no reaction from anybody. This is more important to me than the combat revamp. But we're the only two people who even notice it anymore.

Ya the harvester animation has been broken for a long time. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming there is some reason they don't want to fix it. Maybe it causes lag or something. /shrug

The other little bugs with harvester opration seem to come and go every patch or two.

I find it quite amusing. Supposedly the harvester animations cause lag. But I have several droid bodies standing in my house, and they all have an animation sequence they go through. My NPC vendor has random animation. I have some creatures I dropped in the house, that do random animation. There doesn't seem to be a problem with that causing lag. Whenever I open a crafting tool, there is a spinning picture of what I want to make. My inventory used to have everything spinning around, until I figured out how to turn that off. Lots of really useless movement all around, but they break the one animation that was really of some use to us, and then say it is just as well, because it was causing lag.

**sigh**

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

Not that I know of. I don't know if the lag explanation was anything more than rumor or hearsay.

Not sure who said it, but here's what I heard. The lag isn't from the actual animation of the harvester, but from the query that you have to send to the server every time you pass a new harvester.

So, whenever a harvester loads in your immediate area, you have to ask the server if it is turned on or not, then the server has to check and respond.

Flying through some of the harvester fields out there, I can see where this would be an issue.

i agree. was so much each back in the day when you could just go out to your field and see which harvster was turned off and which ones were turned on.

Server queries? Heaven forbid! /sarcasm off

Not that I doubt that explanation came from the devs at some point, but how weak is that? How tough could it be to ping a harvester status? I mean, the server already has to bring back the information about the harvester, like where exactly it is, what kind it is, what the name is, and BTW... IF IT'S IN OPERATION! Yes, that's right, the server is sending back "in operation" status. Don't believe me? Walk up to one of your harvs that you know is working and listen real close. Is it making rumbling noises? Then it's in operation.

I remember large fields of smoothly flowing heavy mineral harvs. I was very relaxing and inspiring, and, as the top poster said, rather useful!

I sure hope they figure out a way to bring this back because it bugs the heck out of me, for no other reason than esthetics. Dvnce, I really hope you at least acknowledge the fact that this bugs some folks.
