Thread: Just getting back into harvesting -- there are a lot of broken things....

is there a link where they announced that they are leaving it off due to lag?
thank you
Not that I know of. I don't know if the lag explanation was anything more than rumor or hearsay.
So, whenever a harvester loads in your immediate area, you have to ask the server if it is turned on or not, then the server has to check and respond.
Flying through some of the harvester fields out there, I can see where this would be an issue.

Not sure who said it, but here's what I heard. The lag isn't from the actual animation of the harvester, but from the query that you have to send to the server every time you pass a new harvester.

Server queries? Heaven forbid! /sarcasm off
Not that I doubt that explanation came from the devs at some point, but how weak is that? How tough could it be to ping a harvester status? I mean, the server already has to bring back the information about the harvester, like where exactly it is, what kind it is, what the name is, and BTW... IF IT'S IN OPERATION! Yes, that's right, the server is sending back "in operation" status. Don't believe me? Walk up to one of your harvs that you know is working and listen real close. Is it making rumbling noises? Then it's in operation.
I remember large fields of smoothly flowing heavy mineral harvs. I was very relaxing and inspiring, and, as the top poster said, rather useful!
I sure hope they figure out a way to bring this back because it bugs the heck out of me, for no other reason than esthetics. Dvnce, I really hope you at least acknowledge the fact that this bugs some folks.
