Thread: Should I go Architect?

Ok, I'm Master Artisan among other things and I almost have enough to go Architect, however that also means I have enough to go Droid Engineer, Armoursmith and Weaponsmith. My original plan was Architect, but I just want to make sure it's still plausable on Ahazi...it seems to me the people making the most money are the Masters and the Miners. A few thoughts from those of you who have be an Architect for a while would be great. I've read a lot of the posts here already and am aware of some of the issues, but what I would like is advice to someone contemplating an elite artisan profession.

It all depends on if you are ready for the hardships that most architects have to deal with. We are most likely one of the most aggrivating trade classes around, due to factors like critical failures taking an entire days worth of resources in one hit to people being unwilling to pay a good price for our buildings. Btw a good price has yet to be trully seen on any server as far as I know. Everything we sell right now is by far the cheapest credit per unit of resource comparison, then any other trade class out there. The main reason I am still an architect is because I enjoy when I am able to get the reaction from someone when they put up their first house or other building and act like a little child on his or her birthday.

More power to you, personally I haven't really touched the crafting tools myself in a while. The only things I've been making is for myself and my friends. I've just set my prices at 10 cpu (puts a factory at 135K) and haven't really sold anything. It's fine by me though because I've been making my money elsewhere, aka weapons.

If you're going to attempt Architect, I strongly recommend that you first find a Master Architect who will take you on as an apprentice. It is not so easy to solo to Master Architect anymore. For the first month of the game, small houses would sell like a hooker in the White House.

Best arrangement for you is to find a Master who will let you build all his "similar" subcomponents, as well as final assembly on items you're capable of doing, and will buy any resources froom you that you harvest and don't use yourself, though probably cheaper than you might get selling them on the bazaar. If you find a Guild-affiliated Master, he or she might have you grinding out ten or more wall modules a day.

That's some good advice from Untermenschen, at the very least, try to sell walls to master architects.

But unless your playing on a server that just started up, I wouldn't go architect, weaponsmith or maybe even armorsmith are better choices. Just look at the latest patch notes on the test server, all kinds of tweaks for both of them. We got one thing - Harvester Mechinism schematic, which was broken all through beta, finally is fixed so we can build medium and large flora's now. Yay.

No Bargain is right. I would go weaponsmith or armorsmith, they seem to be fun. Architect is a hard skill to get into based on what my comrades have covered.

I don't know if I would say fun. You can't sell anything without leveling up skill boxes and most items you make only give 100 experience. This makes grinding VERY tedious. I had a friend quit armorsmithing because he was tired of the clicking. I make one wall or crafting station and get 1000 experience. He has to make 30 of something to get that much. I'm sure it would be more rewarding but if the grind is going to drive you insane, what's the point?

BOOOAGGGA BRBRBR I'm a master weaponsmith! Give me all your shirts and I'll make you a fruit gun!

Of course I wouldn't recommend anyone be an architect in the short term. Even if the class is broken at the moment, I'm willing to play my other character in the meantime until it's fixed (which is inevitable) and we're the greatest crafting class. Not to mention I'd really, really regret dropping these skills and then they change/fix the class later. UGH.

I have made an architect and have started tailoring as well. I found that when my only proffession was architecture, it was very unsatisying. You run the harvesters for a day and craft for maybe 10min or so until all your resources are used up. So I took up tailoring (I can grind tailor and run survey missions at same time, so i gain skill and i gain tailor). I get MUCH more xp much quicker as an architect, the same amount that takes me a while and lots more clicking to do as a tailor. But since I get all that xp so quickly, it feels like i havent really 'worked' the skill, and have nothing else todo with the rest of my time on the game once what i made has been sold. I was ready to quit the profession and go straight to tailoring. But when i started tailoring I found out that I could do both. I work my tailoring for the time i am in game after I do my architecture skilling (which takes very little time). So both go up about the same amount each day, its just that one takes no time and the other takes the rest of my time.

I keep my novice architect title set while I am tailoring and running survey missions, and i get lots of inquiries about orders. So often I will wait til right before i log off to make the wall modules to skill up on because sometimes I can use that days harvest to make a small house, get a sale and gain skill!

In other words, architecture is not a full time game job. It does take long to do your skilling from the resources you harvest in a day, and you really need a second profession to occupy the other part of your time, another craft skill or combat skill perhaps. Just keep your novice architect title on and fill orders as they come, or do the grind of making wall units if you get none. I am much happier being an architect now than I was when it was my only focus in the game.
