Thread: Decay Poll
/agree structure decay- but I prefere the idea of replacing the deed in the terminal because having to move your stuff out and back in again would really be a pain, as for harvesters it's a must.
/disagree furniture decay- I'm sure if we are given more access to colors and choices, decay will not be a problem.

This is the Architect forum, this is a poll for Architects. If you're not an Architect you have insufficient basis from which to argue. The desires of product consumers are for everything to last forever, to cost nothing, and to be godlike in performance under all circumstances.
Naturally, the needs of producers are otherwise.
Okay you want the poll to only be answered by architects--puhlease! You are in favor of it and so have an agenda to maintain by discouraging those people that would be affected by it, a group which includes darn near every single player in the game. So by asking for the focus to be limited to a group with a very narrow and in some case short sighted focus it furthers your agenda.

Comments: Maintenance: is to keep in an existing state (as of repair) We all ready to do that with Structures of all kinds....
Adding decay and keeping maintenancecost is just charging us twice for the same thing... We pay maintenance to not have it decay!
As for furniture... I for one know lots of people who can keep furniture for years in good condition before it even needs to be replaced....
I liked the one idea of giving the options of adding colors to furniture though...
Yes, my post did get a bit long, but after all, there is no edit button.
I only said what you quoted to emphasize the points following it. I have a great deal of money invested in architectual products, I bought both the furniture and the house with the fact that they will last in mind.
I have a 1/0/0/0 architect on a different server from my main char, therefore I know the essentials of the profession. If anyone does indeed decide to sift through my long winded post, there are some good things in there.

Maintenance, per se, exists to forestall decay and replace consumeable-by-design items such as filters, seals, etc. for the express purpose of avoiding repair and fending off as much as possible the ultimate demise of a thing.
Nothing lasts forever, regardless of the level of maintenance.
Armor and weaponry don't require extensive maintenance in real life, whereas in real life machinery and dwellings do.
Within the game, the viability of the Architect and Tailor classes has an essentially finite limit if their products are designed to last forever. This is a pretty clear and obvious fact.
The game is a player-based economy, infinite product life is unworkable in that scenario.

Both of these need to decay over time, as they do in real life. Sure a house doesn't decay very fast, but over time you have to spend more money on it to keep it going. I think the older structure is the more you have to pay to keep it up. Eventually you are better off destroying the house and getting a new one.
Agree on both.
Structure decay will not decrease sales. Hopefully, the Devs will implement a reasonable decay rate and those that currently have houses will consider the benefits to out weigh the cost. As far as harvester decay, I don't see many people complaining that they need to up their prices by .01 per unit, especially at the prices I have seen resources for sale.
Furniture decay seems like it could be problematic but again, hopefully, the Devs can implement it intelligently. We aren't asking for our profits to double from decay but as a profession we need long term income.
What I will say is decay will thin out the architect population and only the most dedicated will remain.
The question is, will this be a good thing? I haven't decided yet, so I abstain.

This is what maintenance pays for. I dont pay maintenance on my clothes, so they decay. If my structures decay, I wont pay maintenance on them. The only way I can see this being acceptable is if the redeeding / maintenance fees are seriously reduced and/orif the decay occurs over 4-6 months at a time depending on use. The fees are a MAJOR money sink for the Devs, so I doubt that will occur.A slow decay of 4 months wont hurt architects. I've been playing since day 1 and I'm still buying heavy harvestors. Its reasonable that they would decay over a longtime (NOT MONTHLY) and I'm all for helping out the architects, but only if the fees are reduced. I also disagree with the architects getting a kickback in maintenance. I'm a doc but I dont expect an automatickickback from the missions they run after being healed by me. If decay is implemented then obviously a miner runningharvestors 24/7 oughtto see more decay that someonethat just dabbles a little here and there. I'm aminer too, so no flames from the miners out there.

I'll just stop buying furniture all together. With the exception of RP, it plays zero role in the game. And with the current DB problems and limited space in homes, I dont see myself loading my home up with additional furniture anytime soon just to look at it. What I wouldbe for would be new schematics that architects could build, like someone said earlier, that would introduce new furniture into the game. Come on, the current furniture is HIDEOUS looking. Some new content would be a wonderful thing to add to the game. I would buy new furniture. Case in point, there arenew paintings being sold. Here's an object that would entice me to buy something new for my home. Also, once/if the Devs add in a height movement for furniture placement, I as a single story small nabooian home owner might be interested in buying some more furniture to put things on. Also, let's look at the functionality of the furniture. Cabinets that dont store anything. Chests that dont open. Beds you cannot lie down on. DE can build droid chassis to sell as furniture for those who want the look of a droid w/o a functioning item or can build a full fledged droid that does something. Right now, almost all furniture is function-less. Give the architects something else they can sell. Furniture with a function. Bookcases that just sit there for a little money or bookcases that hold things for a little more. Experiment on the number of shelves...I dont know...but there are better ways to bring in revenue for architects than just decaying an item.

/sign ONLY IF PA's are exempt from the Decay issue.
I strongly disagree, PA's should NEVER decay. This is going to cause untold confusion and grief when the PA finally gives up the ghost so to speak. Either the devs need to have a way of communicating condition to the leaders of the PA or the PA needs to be exempt to decay.

Gah. I might seriously consider quitting the game if I had to pick up all the stuff in my house or lose it on -top- of paying out most of my income for maintenance to houses & harvesters. By all means, let a fraction of maintenance go to the creating architect if you please, but I'm just thrilled to have saved up enough for 4 medium mineral harvesters. I still have plans to purchase over a dozen heavy harvesters when I can afford it. If I had to do that -over and over again- with the potential that the harvesters would cost even more because of increased resource costs... Ugh.
That's not even getting in to how it will effect the economy of the game. The cost of extracting minerals goes up, then the cost of -every- crafting class increases as well. And they'll have to pick up and reset vendors, and all the stuff in their house... I know I sure won't be buying furniture, decay or no decay, if I have to move it every so often. I don't even want to think of all the stuff in a PA Hall. And it's not like you caneasily put a new PA Hall down and move everything in to it.
If the servers are getting oversaturated there has got to be a better way to fix it than making the game even more like a job than it already is.
