Thread: Architect Issues Designer responses
you say its hard for a solo architect - it is. I have to find all my own resources - and have yet NOT (crit failures'R'US ) been able to make a medium harvester to help me.
Could we do something about the one experimentation point for everything? I thought the construction tree would work kind of like the Engineering tree in this reguard, but it doesn't. If decay comes into effect this could be very useful and effect the price of furniture. Also, the reclaiming of power and maintenance is something I have suggested before. It may be difficult, but when a resource shifts it can save the like of architects that use a lot of large harvesters a lot of money and power. As far as critical failures go, it has gotten worse fo rme since the patch. I fail quite a lot now when I once did not. The resources I use are the same too. It can be frustrating. Also, when it comes to crafting the failure/success rate seems very random. That should be adjusted as to what you use. If I get an amazing success one time I shouldn't get a critical failure the very next time, especially with furniuture IV. I hope this info is read and helps.

I like the idea that we can improve an items performance or lower its mainteneance and power consumtion. That would make our skill more meaningful as it is in most crafting professions.
I do not like the idea of items in your structure decaying or needing architect repair kits to keep them operational. I am a master architect and I dont like this idea. Why... becuase we already pay for maintenance so this does not happen. The only way I would go for this is to get rid of maintenance and make it a totally architect function. But even then, it would bea pain. I would rather just pay the maint fee then have to apply patches to my structures every so many days. Furniture should wear out though. That could be more of a constant market for the architects. Structures would be those "once in a while" purchases.
As for critical failures, I have had my share but nothing as catastrophic a PA hall. I have noticed that the more poor the quality of the resource the more common failure seems to be. Asside from that, I use my factory to make most items (well I did until the this patch killed factories).
The other thing they can do to help our profession it to make crates like resource containers. Make them splittable and combineable to save DB and storage space. There is no reason why you should not be able to do this. The crates should also have a similar limit. Maybe 100,000 units is overkill for a crate, but it should be up there. This would save a ton of DB space and item space in houses. It would allow crafters to keep subcomponents on had to make thier wares.
I am really suprised this did not happen when they changes the resource containers in beta.
i think architects need lots of love, no doubt. i think Sony is within days of losing my business, and my entire pa (about 15 accounts)
-my factory has been working fine *structure factory*- sorry to all of you who are having problems with it :/ like we dont have enough as it is.
-remove that **edit**ing 'empty harvester' bull **edit**, thats stupid, and shouldnt have been added. THEN slap the guy who couldnt figure out his real assignment for saying this was necessary so he could get his monthly pay.
-definatley need to figure out some kind of way to keep market for architects fresh, or atleast a bit, i am not sure what or how, but im not the one getting paid to figure this **edit** out, i'm paying for it to be figured out, so **edit**ing do it.

3) Reclaiming Maintenance and Power - Add the options to remove maintenance and power from all buildings that require upkeep. Many players will often find themselves moving harvesters or houses to more ideal locations, harvesters especially with the dynamic resources. This can result in lost power resources and credits due to resource shifts.
This is actually pretty involved. There are issues to where the money goes when you redeed the structure that we’ll have to solve. But we do like the idea, and will look into this. J
"This shouldn't be as involved as you think, you've already got mechanisms in place to handle both." --Gedd
Indeed, how involved can this be?
Current system: Place maintenancemoney from bank to building
New system: Reclaim maintenance money frombuilding to bank
Step 1: Add a Remove maintenance option to thebuilding UI, right belowthe option to pay maintenance.
Step 2: Use the same pay maintenance UI to remove maintenance.
Step 3: Use the same code, but changethe signs (+/-) inregards to the bank / maintenance variables.
Am I missing anything major here?
Step 4: Handle harvester power the same way, although I understand that this is complicated by the various power types. Power moves from harvester to inventory, just the opposite of how it works now.
Personally, I think this should be aseparate functionfrom re-deeding the structure, and should be available at any time, not just during the re-deeding process. If you make this an automated part of the re-deeding process, then I see howthe whole thing could get very complicated. As a player, if I want to re-deed a structure, I have no problem performing these functions manually prior to doing so.
Another note on power (quote from Gedd):
"For power, it's been suggested that you use a mechanism like the input hopper on a factory. If necessary, you can make it so you can't access the hopper while the harverster is running. The user turns off the harvester, accesses the hopper, loads/unloads power, then restarts the harvester. It works in factories, it should be adaptable for harvesters."
While I understand this, I don't see why turning a harvester off to reclaim power would be required. Currently I can add power to my harvester while it runs, so why would I have to turn it off to reclaim it? Perhaps it's a petty thing on my part. I'd just like to see some working process to fix issue #3.
Unless I'm missing some major items, I don't see it as being that hard. In fact, it appears to be one of the easiest fixes of the bunch.

While being able to pull power out while a harvester (and let's not forget factories) was running would seem to be a no-brainer, I was operating under the assumption that there is *some* reason why we can't access hoppers in the factory while it was manufacturing, so I was saying that we could live with turning off harvesters first if it makes it easier to implement (since it would then be identical to factories).
And I wouldagree heartilywith your comments about being able to withdraw maintenance and power before redeeding a structure. That's how things work now with vendors, so I would assume it would make sense to do that with a "new" harvester/factory/house system as well. Redeeding and withdrawing power and maintenance should be separate events that occur independent of one another (although it would be nice to have both pools returned to you automatically upon redeeding, but I wouldn't want to complicate things
).
I do not want item decay period, however if you do then add a tool that allows architects to recondition OUR HARVESTERS/HOUSES to FULL condition. A tool that is only used by an Architect.
If decay on harvesters happen you may want to up the production rate of the harvesters.
It is very important that when you read this that you remember these guys are so very very good at making stuff in games look good..I expect more for our trade..and so I have suggestions that solve a lot of problems.
I do have an answer for how to get our profession (choke, I run missions still? almost a master architect and I have to run freaking missions. I'm working at McDonalds people) going...
First. Let us design the houses. Even if we were given cookie cutter rooms with which to work with, if we had a chance to make 1 house look different from another we would sale a lot of houses. A lot more houses. If architects AHAD to have a declared residence and IF STYLES CHANGED DEPENDING on what planet you lived on and you were not allowed to sell houses you did not make (very important)---THAT WOULD ROCK----Pay close attention here to this part please! not being sarcastic, please hear me out...Let us paint them. That is right...As a Tailor get's higher up his colors become more vibrant etc. So should our paints.
But why does every house look the same....I'm sick of the architecture, no house is impressive because they are all "yawn" the same.
Also...It would be very very easy relatively to give us many more styles to work with...pagoda'ish-- Mason'ish---duh star wars'ish...this is rather easily implemented and would expand the trade 1000 fold.
Fences....other things that a person can put outside their house..lawn ornaments. What guy or girl put torches inside? they should be outside..in case the person who did that did'nt notice...fire burns houses. Have not seen one fire extinguisher so why are their torches in houses? and torches? is this star wars or caveman? I mean funny movie and all but c'mon.
Forget all you wanna be's with your "please mr designer guy, can I have some light please" how sad that you whine and beg for more boring stuff, am I right here people? do we want a lamp? or do we want the ability to specilaize in lighting for cantinas and homes alike that dazzle and sparkle? Let me in the developers room, you'll see our trade blossom.
Why not have cameras? yeah yeah I know, first you say this is not an archtect issue (quiet, everything we can build is) and secondly "it would be too hard" lol, please... this is a good idea...listen.. I have played many games that had mini cameras in one way or another ..I say some arch'ys should be able to make houses with cameras...like the cameras that show your guy in the bottom of your inventory screen, it's ALREADY THERE PEOPLE so stop saying it is too much etc..these cameras though could show your buddies guy animated like in HIS inventory screen, (of course the buddy would have to have a transmitter from another trade.) these could be used as video phones...good ey?
Not done yet....other architects should be able to build specialized furniture like pool tables THAT YOU CAN PLAY ON...these are minor programs relatively...I know they have bugs to fix but my imagination is not waiting so there...this trade seriously smells and im either going to not reup or change professions like most of the rest of you, lets keep this going.
Other builders should be able to build attachments for harveters that make them function better like powerups for weapons.....huh huh, nudge nudge, whatcha think about that one?stop applauding cause I dont see anyone doing anything to help us out...![]()
Other builders should able to build garages...getting vehicles soon right?
lets get this over with ![]()
post for steeds like in old west and with feeders and water troughs so they can eat and drink their fill if the householder keeps fresh supply-----also there should be a minimum on house purchases somehow, on my server I see people selling small houses for 6k all the time...they cannot be making money,,,,ridiuclous...and how can anyone compete..sell them for 5? would not even buy the ore needed..and why do we getnothing for our skill, We get laughed at if we try to charge even 3\4 what they are worth, I just love being laughed at because theres no market...great going ![]()
--Wetbars----swimming pools-------with slides------hot tubs that heal and even give temp. bonus to mind stats----television sets of some kind---would be a great way to recieve update info---------this is star wars remember ? no houses not EVEN THE PALACE has anything technical that you can interact with, stupid I think---windows---wheres the windows? has anyone even said the word windows in relation? ---wallpaper-------------cannot auction houses? why not? ------------------I hope the vehicles use fuel---so---Gas stations---- people should def, be able to sell houses and transfer ownership without destroying it..Im against re deeding at all, makes no sense-----if people could not pick up their house and move we would have repeat customers right? I could go on and on.....none of this is likely is it? sad..this trade is soo boring...here me people collecting my money?-im starting to search for the proverbial remote here--please do something, cause im bored bored....could be playing now...man im bored. ![]()
If they need more ideas, which they do..let's be honest, we must have been the last trade and they ran out of imagination...I mean what is fun about being an architect? NAME ONE THING? it is not creative, not fun, not working even...I mean c'mon...I have read all you people before I started posting...what are you going to do? they dont seem to care about you or me? let's make some noise....what if every acrchitect walked out? what would happen then? even if for one day..can you put your mouse down for one day? I say let's do it....whats the worst that can happen? We might get attention....they dont pay attention to us for a couple reasons but the biggest is that they know they have to keep the "dummy" trades happy, If a brawler has a problem he quits and buys a different game a curses SWG forever...but they think your smarter and will try to prove yourself no matter what..I wont, Im not happy i walk baby, well, they have about 2 weeks to make this fun or I quit.....being an architect is not very enjoyable and is hard work...really, depending on what you do, this seems like hard irritating work...wheres the creativity in a profession that is supposed to be all about creativity?this is boring boring boring boring....yawn...man this is boring....This letter has convinced me, 2 weeks, better or IM out. Do something for me Dev.s..I deserve it... I pay the overpriced toll, but not for long if the trade I want to be in is already at a stand still, and it is....I have no time to sell my houses, even if I could sell them cheap enough I cannot look for buyers....cannot open a shop, you know why I cannot, cannot have a shop and get stuff to put in it at the same time...did you test this profession?
I just deserve more...im a paying customer. ![]()

I don't think houses and furniture should degrade; that would be way too much of a nuissance for the rank-and-file players. I think we can make PLENTY of money if harvesters need replacement and/or refitting, the same as weapons and armor.
Here's another idea for introducing quality into the game... how about if luxury goods - like a large house, high-quality furniture, etc. gave a modest buff to secondary stats? Something like a maximum of +50 constitution/stamina/willpower. Not enough to be game-breaking, but enough that there is some motivation to buy quality goods.
Too little variation in what can be crafted.
I think that's a huge thing. Several people I've talked to say the same, and I tend to agree with them: When everyone is forced to craft the same few items there's no wonder the market is totally shot to hell. Introduce more options, both in housing and installations, as well as furniture, and make experimentation do something.
I think just that would go a long way towards 'saving' our profession.
Cheers,
Morlok
well now my factory wont work, after the last "loading" stage of bloodfin
i hear Holofag wants to nerf ch more, and yet so many bugs need addressed that are way more important than the ch class, which already took it in the ass.
you "devs" have 5 days to fix what needs fixed, such as bugs dealing with architect and other classes, as far as im concerned, or you just lost 225.00 a month.
should have never wasted money on a Verrant game, EQ sucked, and this is sucking. Lucas arts should've teamed with Blizzard, for we all know Blizzard > Verrant.
