I have noticed that it seems you have to hit the ships directly in the right spot, or else the ship wont take damage. The weirdest part is that no hotfixes or patches have been released latley...bug, or maybe were just crazy?

Go to nothing and stay there? It's intended, I believe, for ships tobe invinciblefor a short while after you disable them - guess it's for when you're running a capture mission with a level 2 target and 3 or more level 8 guns hehe. Anyway is that not it?

I've noticed that for quite some time when out in Deep Space. If you disabled a gunboat, the next 3-4 seconds does no damage to the ship. I use that to my advantage to get right in under them and line up the killing shots. As to why, I think AlmightyBob said it best, it's probably for when you need to disable a ship far under your firepower.

Maybe...I think ya'll are imagening things, nothing seems different to me.
With gunboats, I think what you're seeing when you shoot and nothing happens at first is internal components being taken out - assuming the AI has these.

While I thought about that too, I've tested it targetting specific subsystems and carefully watching the target window. Absolutely no change in them for a couple seconds after you disable. It's really evident when you're firing 0.25 refire guns. At least 5-6 of the shots do nothing to the gunboats.

Unless they're blowing up components we can't see, like caps and so forth. Or some internal armor value that has to be torn through? I dunno. I never seemed odd to me to hit brief dead points where I did no damage.
