Why? I want to know the proposed mechanics before I say "Yeah, include that".

Would you vote on the president of the united states of america without knowing What each of the candidates stands for? What they propose to do during their term in office? Who they plan on nuking off the planet?

You cannot logically make a decision without information to back it up. You just -can't- do it!

As it stands now, if we agree to either, the devs will go do whatever they want and if we don't like it... too bad, because we agreed to have it.

I don't think so.

Tell them to fix the dang assembly numbers first, thatwe ALL know needs to be fixed and we can ALL (I'm presuming here, feel free to argue =P) agree on.

Architects already face the problem of creating houses and furniture that isn't entirely necessary to the gameplay of SWG. If they decay, who would bother wasting the time/money?

Waaay too much hassle for me (and other players who feel the same way I do) to look after my home/furniture/factory/harvester and etc.

Please come up with another solution or suggestion. There must be another way.

Decay = lower prices ... Why? Coz ppl with old houses will try to sell em to not lost all money which they put in. So actually ... there will be new competition and new market with old structures and furniture. Those who cry now that our prices are high will have new possibility to buy old structure and furniture. In the end it will hurt us more then anythin else.

The question that needs to be asked is who benefits from decay? architects? If I am a casual gamer and I want a house but I know its gonna blow up in 2 months why buy it? Itll take the casual gamer a month or so to get a nice house furnished. After all that effort itll be gone. If i was a casual gamer there is no chance i'd buy one, or the furniture to go in it. In this scenario, architects lose.

Do i have a solution? i dont think so. this is a very difficult question. What i would propose is more options. Most people (Powergamers included) will follow trends and fashions, if there is something new they will want it. What may be a better option is to add houses and furniture, or make some schematics quest drops which combat types could bring to the architect. I feel decay is a bad idea for items of such value.

Just a little point for those trying to bring "realism" into account. In real life you can't just pack up astructure (easily)and place it somewhere else, especially not a mine. As far as furniture goes, furniture does wear out quickly or slowly or not at all. Grandma's couch may not have been used in forever, but the springs might be busted in and everything... Or it may have never been used and has a plastic cover over it. On the other hand people with kids will argue that nothing they own will last longet than 3 years. Same with clothes. Some people will have clothes that will simply last forever, others will destroy their clothes in 5 months.

Just some food for thought.

I understand the idea of bringing reality into the game, but why? It's a game. It's not the world for which a lot of us want to seek refuge from To each his own there, but I don't think real world comparisons are a matter to be concerned with overly much. This game operates on a different set of rules. Give me the real life equivalent of house being built in a matter of minutes on an ungraded terrain with no workers and I'll concede the point.

I really and truly think we should concentrate on experimentation for the time being. The devs might want an opinion of what we think about decay, and I'd be willing to bet it comes out more against than for. Besides if we are allowed to experiment on maintenance rates and power consumption, I really think that in and of itself will drive the market without overly stepping on non-architects toes about their stuff going kablooey.

As I stated before, I think the experimentation should be the primary concern. If we can convince the devs to give us experimentation of maintenance rates and power consumption (Along with fixing eperimentation to begin with, eg +100assembly, +100 experimentation) we can kill 2 birds with one stone. it would be an easier solution, easier to code & implement, achieves more in less time, is by no means excessive, won't PO as many non-architects, and will give the market more drive. Of course nothing is without its cost, and I think the novice architects and the dabblers will find is less to their tastes, but what game starts out where you can be the best?

There's some more of my 2credits....I keep this up I'll be broke before long

On the same token, people on Earth don't have to move to another area to mine every week due to materials suddenly disappearing. Some mines have lasted well over 200 years.

Anyway,

I don't know why I even bother, as they will never implement this. I will be laughing, though, if they do...

Architect: "I'm sorry, I can't make you5 heavy harvesters right now."

Customer: "Why not? You that backlogged?"

Architect: "Oh, no. I'm just having to make my own heavy harvesters right now. Mine broke down."

Customer: "Oh, that sucks. How long till you think it will be before you can make me one?"

Architect: "Well, I'm running personal harvesters right now.. so 3, maybe 4 weeks before I get mine.."

Customer: "Uh..."

Architect: "And after that, I have to wait till they mine enough to make yours.. that should be a week"

Customer: "Umm, ok ... and what do you charge?"

Architect: "200k for each heavy harvester"

Customer: "WHAT?"

Architect: "I.. well, that's the only way I can make any profit!"

Customer: "Why should I pay 200k each for something that breaks down in 2 months?"

Customer: "Heck, they can't even be placed anywhere!"

Architect: "Well.. uhh..."

Customer: "And you want me to wait a month and a half?!"

Customer: "Screw it, I'll make my own personal's.. again.. thanks"
