This is in reference to your comment in the Architect Issues - designer Response to issue #4 Critical failures.

I tried to post it to the boards jsut as you see but it would not let it post. I made a point of not using any cusrse words but I do not knwo why my post was restricted. At anyrate for your eyes on her is my personal feeling s on the crit failure:

Well speaking for only myself **edit** no the change has not made it any better. I just CRITICAL FAILED on a Food Factory TWICE in a row! IT TOOK ME NEARLY A **EDIT** WEEK TO GATHER THE RESOURCES TO BUILD THOSE FACTORIES. I HAD A COMMISSION TO BUILD ONE AND I WANTED TO BUILD ONE FOR MY UNOFFICIAL PA GROUP. SO NOW I'M OUT A WEEKS WORTH OF GATHERING OF RESOURCES. I'M OUT THE POTENTIAL PROFIT FROM SELLING A FACTORY AND MY GUILD IS OUT THE HOPE OF SELLING SOME STIM PACKS MADE FROM A FACTORY.

I just told my customer he would have to wait a few days for me to get the materials again. He decided to pass and go to someone who already had the factory built. I can understand that he just did not want to have to wait. In the mean time I feel like I just wasted a freaking week of my life for NOTHING!!!

First you force me to dump nearly 100 items from my house with poor planing and lack of information. Now you take 70K worth of materials from me in 2 clicks of a mouse. Why the *edit* did you introduce gamboling to this game? All you have to do if you want to **EDIT** GAMBOL is be an ARCHITECT!! Every **EDIT** click of the mouse is a gambol.

I am going outside now. going to smelll fresh air and think about whether I want to waste anymore of my time or money on this **edit** game. With it's arbitrary rule changes. And "act of GOD" disasters. I play by the **EDIT** rules. Do nothing even close to exploiting the game and the rewards???? 70,000 credits taken out of my hands for NOTHING.

(continued) because your board will nto a llow long letters.

I tell you the truth, if I knew how to take advantage of the resource cheat right now I would not hesitate to use it. 70K may not seem like a lot to some of you Master Architects. And if you are one of them then God bless you. I am truly happy for you. But it has just wipped me out. It took every thing I had to get to this point and in 2 **EDIT** clicks of the mouse it is all gone.

I am leaving now, and I truly do not know if I will be returning to the boards or the game. If I don't come back then I wish the rest of you well, and hope you have a better experience with SWG than I have had.

Peace,
Ripper

Why would furniture/homes decay?? What sense does this make? Sure, in the real wworld, a home/furniture may get wear and tear...but this is a process that happens over MANY. MANY YEARS.

And, can be totally avoided with proper MAINTENANCE, which is what we are already paying to keep the home as is......

Now, I could see however, there being some ammount of severe "decay" done to a home that is redeeded and moved to a new location, too often. That is where I could see this decaying working on homes, in a manner that would make any kind of sense. The idea someone mentioned about the quality of the home built( ie, the paticular architechts skill and experimentation on the structure when mad) would determine how many times a home could be moved befor severe"decay would take place, and then that requiring and artisan to create the needed to to repair this deacy. and much like weapons and armor, the home would lose some overall durabiltity for further movement in the furture.

furniture though...no way..I for one wouldnt even want to bother buying furniture if I knew that it would just "poof' and disappear after some amount of time..just makes no sense. And considering the placement of furniture in this system is totally lacking ini intuitivness, and a process that can take hours to get right, I cant imagine any who would want to go through the process on a regular basis..( except for home designers whoget PAID to do that)..joe blow is losing time from running his/her professional craft with this....

I hope this doesnt become a game reality....

Iam about half way up the Architect tree and I agree that there needs to be a way to ensure revenu for Architects. Rather then a house that someone payed 80k for decaying and poofing into nothing there needs to be more home sizes and varities so that people want to change to get something new ever so often.

Right now we have 2 or 3 homes per planet per size. I'd like to see that increased ten fold and add in a few more sizes. An extra small, one between medium and large and one bigger then large ones. There should be many many floor plans and types to chose from.

Another idea I like are architect crafted compondents that have to be plugged into all homes and installations on a peroic bases. Power Supplies, Data chips etc... I'd also like to see a Architect crafted tool added that allowed the home owner to change the color of their homes exterior walls and roof and their interior walls ceilings and floors.

I also want to see100's more furniture types, styles and the ability to change the color of furniture as it is being crafted. I'd like to see rugs, curtains, paintings, ceiling fixtures. I'd also like to see other home items besides just furniture. Examples dishes, decorative items, books etc... Things to make a home look lived in. Also all new items and furniture for people to buy for their businesses to make them look like real shops.

This is also something we’ll have to research. This is a pretty large change to the system, but something we also agree on. What types of things would you like to see decay?

Everything. Yeah, everything. I mean.. just about every other tradeskill item decays if used, except for components and some artisan tools, which perhaps should decay as well.

Weapons decay if you use them.
Armors decays if you use them.
Clothes will, according to this round of responses, decay if they are used.
Food is eaten and removed from the game.
Droids can be destroyed if they see combat, they need batteries, etc.
Creatures decay as they get incapped.

For every class, even with repair tools (since at the moment they may **edit** well destroy what they were supposed to repair) they are absolutely promised future business, at least for the industry as a whole. Architects? Our creations are fire and forget so far. Once someone buys from an architect, barring disaster and not being able to get online, that particular item does not need replacement. Even better, they can eventually resell the item if they want.

In order of priority? Harvesters->Houses->PA Halls->Furniture.

Want ideas how to do it?

Someone here suggested using deeds as a kind of power source - I think that's a great idea. An alternate one would be for the structures to require power sources in three steps: One for small houses, one for medium houses and harvesters, one for large harvesters. Have it require resources from 1/3 to 1/10th of the item itself, and link the amount of 'recharge' it grants the structure to experimentation. That's another thing: Please, please make experimentation useful.

Make furniture just disappear. Until furniture actually has a function or use beyond looking pretty - and by the way, architect furniture pales in comparison to the cool-looking stuff that can simply be dropped in a house, like suits of armor, animals, etc - you may as well just have it blink away past a certain point. Once a month? Every two weeks? Who knows. Maybe another system could come up if furniture actually has more value than mere looks.

Just some suggestions. Thanks for the responses, devs!

Actually, nah. Making furniture disappear is too much a pain. People spend a lot of time positioning that, etc.

Just thought I'd add that. Too late in the night for me to be posting without errors, heh.

You know something Tyrim? That is the ONLY decay idea I've seen yet that I could support.

I like it.

But leave housing and furniture alone please Especially furniture. The type of people that get off on decorating would be leaving the game in droves if their decor had a chance of rotting.

As for the rest of you folks that are advocating decay because "everyone already has all their houses harvesters etc.",consider this. The resource dupe has hit some servers harder than others and in several different ways. On my server it appears that some of the materials needed for composite were the majority of resources duped. Maybe on yours it was ore? There's certainly a huge market left for housing and large harvesters on Bloodfin; I am stillgetting the same number of inquiries on each as I've had for weeks.

I do know that the resource collectors are not going to be shelling out for large harvesters on a weekly basis at current costsAwaitingWoW. And your argument really doesn't hold water anyway... the "miners" on my server at leasttarget every crafter but architect. How many architects out there buy a majority of their resources from miners? My bet is very very few. Why would miners waste their time getting us ore in the quantities we need ata price we can afford (2-3cr a unit) when they can mine whatever materials other crafters need and make5-10cr a unit? Not to mention the fact that an architect with 10-20 lots can only produce 2-3 heavys a day at best. With decay the way you want it, every resource collector would have to hire their own private architect to keep them supplied.

people arent buying harvestors any way...why buy harvetsors and deal with power and maintence when all you need is a small sample of some "good" metal and and you just dupe it...

and lets face it on the HARVETSING MECHANISM ---- either the devs are buffons for not knowing this has been broken for 6 months when it gets brought up everday or they are just flat out lying...

I hate to be so cynical but at this point I really believe that there is some reason that this paticular schematic is INTENTIONALLY missing...it is the only logical explanation..whether there just isnt any art work for the harvestors or someone just doesnt want organics flowing into the economy...

It would take an intern 20 minutes to just look at the code and fix the typo..or just rename it...it is not a complicated fix....

We should all DEMAND that this be FIXED no later than WED.

Decay should be implemented when something is redeed. This would make a demand for replacement harvesters and would not have a huge impact on the housing market as houses don't generally get moved. Architects should also be given a tool that could repair a deed's decay just like on armor. Any other decay system implemented at this time would have to great of an impact on the limited market architects already have with furniture and homes.

OK, so the main argument against decay seems to be that some archiects believe that people will not buy houses (or other items) if the houses have a chance of vanishing. I should point out here that people will definitely not buy houses if they have enough houses to fill all their lots already. Since houses do not decay, eventually everyone will have this many houses if they choose, and that'll be that. So on the one hand we have a potential loss of business, and on the other hand we have a definite loss of business. I have to go with the potential loss all the way.

On the other hand, maybe this will be resolved by time. Right now, the people arguing against decay are still able to sell their items. Once the market collapses and they are no longer able to sell, perhaps they'll start to see the flaws inherent in the no-decay plan, and either leave the profession or begin advocating decay.

As for the argument that people won't pay x credits for a harvester every y weeks, the key here is to find x and y values for which that statement will be false. It can be done - after all, people pay maintenance right now. The decay system would be particularly successful if it actually replaced the maintenance payment, in fact...

I've also heard people propose a system in which some fraction of all maintenance payments goes to the constructing architect. This is a neat idea, except it doesn't work for new archiects (since the buildings will all have been constructed by their predecessors.)

I'm still fond of the idea of people having to periodically buy another deed of the same type as their current house and feed it. That way we don't have to wait for new art assets or anything like that to implement the system...
