Thread: Urban Planner may not be a new profession after all... (from dev chat)
The problem with UP is it's such a dead-end profession. Once you've made what your city needs, then what? You'll have a short time as the UP tries to keep up with everything the city wants, then when it's done...
Also, by making the schematics available (or at least usable) via the construction line, you can give more work to lower end architects, rather than have cities be an elite-elite only system. As I've said elsewhere, just make the boxes in the Construction branch a prerequisite to use UP schematics, but don't grant them automatically.
I also like the suggestion of cross-discipline components needed for schematics.
omg all of you who are saying "Urban Planners will make no money" or "Urban Planner is a dead end proffesion because there is no demand" **edit**. NONE OF YOU know what Urban Planner is gonna be like. Stop acting like its out in the game already. Yea we know some info about it, but you dont know all of it so just stop talking like your some dev.

Let me be the first to tell you what Urban Planner will be.
UPers are those who can build city structures.
The end.
Not much to it is there? How many banks will you build for your town? Cantinas? Hospitals? Various decorations for town beautification.
Once more, EVERY player town ALREADY has a Master Architect. You will NOT be able to sell City Structures to another town. If you can show me a town without a Master Architect in it, I can show you a failed city. Pure and simple.
The only REAL question is, how many Player Cities will be allowed on a planet? So once again there will be a race to make yourtown the highest level city first to make sure you will be able to have your city on the planet with all the bells and whistles available to you.

Urban Planner would not be a dead end path IF a city required one or more of them for its continued maintenance. Of course, if you had read this thread, you might have seen that idea before.
Don't make me laugh. That "idea" is hardly new. Architect have been begging for that since the first week. WTH makes you think the Devs give a **edit**?
I agree with Maely , it should stay an elite-elite profession. If you put all of it into architect, then you'll have instant "urban planners" masters as soon as the patch goes in. Architect is already the second most played profession in the game (believe it or not..).
If you put a whole new profession, and especially being elite-elite, it gives players something else to work for, and since it's an elite-elite, only a small % will be dedicated to go towards it. This only spreads the professions more, which isa GOOD thing.
Besides, imagine they put the patch in, then30 mins after the bazaar is filled with player garages for 3k each, etc. We'd be back with the same problem the architects are having right now. Having the urban planner sets a new clean state to start with and something to work towards and have fun.
To Lewkus:
1. Shuttleports are at level 4 city, see dev chat. So this means your city has to be pretty big before making one. I dont see it as a problem really, people will make their town where the land is nice, etc. Those who are serious about making great cities are very peculiar in where they place themselves usually. No starports in player cities though.
2. Agreed
3. I dont think more lots is the solution, perhaps just the construction tree give bonuses to harvesting, that way we are more efficient than non-architects.
4. It's all about trusting your mayor though, dont like him, just vote him off =)
"Architect is already the second most played profession in the game (believe it or not..)"
Probably the second most mastered, but many may not play it most of the time,I could be wrong.
"let me be the first to tell you what urbanplanner will be"
"UPers are those who can build city structures"
"The end"

Wow you figure that out all by yourself? If you werent so quick to run your mouth you may have picked up on the questions that were asked in this thread and the topics we are discussing. WhenI said no one knows what Urban Planner will be like i was obviously talking about previous posts about how people are claiming there will be no demand and urban planner is a dead end profession. Nice try at putting someone down to make yourself look better, unfortunatly you failed horribly.
