Thread: NO HOUSE for architects?

Ok I have read many post like this over the years - Class a should be given X becuase in real life Class has X. This arguments fails for one reason - this is not real life it is a game. If it was real life we could not walk around with our guns out, board transport with guns, run around killing anyone that belong to the other side. Now befor you state the obvisous that in places like Afganistan we can do this I would also like to point at that the "best architects" (and this all depends on what you think is the best) do not always livein the best houses. They can or they can join the peace corp where they will not live in the lap of luxery. So now that we got the REAL LIFE statement out of the way let us move on.

Why do you crafters of all sorts want to do EVERYTHING themselves. It seemsmany want to be a part of a multiplayer roleplaying game and want to do EVERYTHING alone. Example you want to build everything have more lots while mining everythng in all the quantities ALONE. Now I agree that it would be nicer if there was a class miner that could DO things others could not like run the heavies and or place extractors where others couldn't or be able to mine resources fast ect just as it would be goodto keepthe cheap vendors were just under merchant (not sure what changes are going to be made here but they are a coming). but right now that is not in the game. So the statment goes we use ALOT of resources and need to buy them at 3 to 10 CPU is false. The statement should be we use ALOT of resources and choose to buy them at 3 to 10 CPU. I say this because of one reason. I provide resources at an avg of 1.5 cpu. I have made many long term deals with architects so I provide for them. Now I cant do this alone. my partners and I share 2 small houses and our lots to be able to harvest resources. If fact one of our deals with an architech is that we provide her with walls at 1 CPU. This is becuase we make deals and she chooses not to pay the prices that many of you choose to pay.Thismeans we do make as much moneyas we could - note the phrase as much - that means we still make money. She still makes money. Our next deal is to share a vendor where we no longer need to have our own vendors. This way teh merchant makes money, she makes money and we make money. As you see we are NOT doing italone.

I have been selling resourcessince2nd wekk in july and I will tell youthat these are the errors most crafters make. I offer them let say decent steel at 1.5 cpu. I recieve the message statingI am fully stock ATM no thank you. the shift happens and the steel this shiftis junk. So they come back and ask if I still have that steel. I say yes but since it is in high demand now I ask what willthey be willing to pay for it (notice I dont set the price I let the buyer set it - If I like the price a take it otherwise I just sit on the resource). The Architect or crafter brought it on themselfs by one not establishing a relationship with the supplier and two by not buying it when they had the chance at a much lower price. I know for those that buy from me even when they dont need it right now, I go out of my way to find what they need most. Certain things like LGO is always needed but at times I have been sitting on 20K trying to sell it for 1.5 and having no takers. So I stop all LGO operations for a time. Now I dont have that problem anymore for I have crafters that have learned I only mine what sells and I mine what existing customers want first when I can find it.

So get together with other poeple (I know this is strange in a multiplayer game ) and set up deals. heck join up as architech and share 1 large house. Then share the resources you havest together. Have others help you and you hepl them. example; I never ran a med harvestor because I felt they were WAY over priced and still do. So I made a deal with an archtiect She made us 2 med harvestors for 15K and we in return give here 5K of steel and 5 K of Alum every other day at 1.5 cpu. This does not always work out to the exact numbers but she does have a costent flow of these resources at a constent price. You see working together helps everyone involved.

Look us up an Scylla - (FYI we will not even attempt to fill most orders for 100K+ basicaly because of past customers)

I guess I was just trying to get a feel for the overall attitude of the Master Architect. I can see the point now. You guys are right, housesshould be a "trophy" or a place to kick back... not a place to conduct business and therefore undercutting merchants. I completely agree with this assessment.

How about this...

Master Architecthouses only take up 1 lot no matter what the size (including PA) but they aren't allowed to place merchants.

We then introduce Warehouse Storage Modules that allow for the placement of additional items and storage. These take up two lots. I think these would be a fair compromise that address most of the issues.

The only thing still on the fence would be, how to show the "value" of a house as being worth 3+ credits per resource used to build it.

I hear what you are saying, but I would be amazed at any Architect who would be willing to buy the majority of their resources at 3:1 prices. Icould noteven consider paying 30k for 10k ofAluminum especially since I would use itupin a matterofminutes. Just consider amediumhouse possibly using up 22k resources and we had to pay 66k for them in order to build that house. So how much would we have to try to sell a medium house for then, 200k? Maybe this was the designers intention in beta, but that is not what happened when SWG hit the public. I might consider giving up my harvesters if I could buy resources at around 0.5:1. It just became quite obvious to all Architects that in orderto stay competitive you had to keep your resource costs down, and if you didn't others would and had might as well look for another profession.

Yes but I feel that if some sort of decay was introduced and expirementation mattered, then yes. You could sell medium homes for 200K. I don't think homes should decay, but home prices would rise. Why? Very simple, if factories and haversters decayed people will still buy them. They are necessary items for the other crafting professions that make a higher cpu ratio. So now you and I are getting more orders for factories and harvesters. Compounding this demand is now people want to buy the best ones. So who do they come to, Master Architects. So because you can get a higher cpu for harvesters and factories it would naturally carry over to homes because you wouldn't want to waste your resources on something that would make you less money.

Of course this is all speculation and I could be wrong, but frankly I don't think this system could be worse than the one we have now...

oh and then sell their finished products to merchants like their supposed to.

Really, an Architect should have

1 structure factory

1 fusion generator

3 low grade ore heavy harvesters

1 steel/iron harvester

1 copper/aluminum harvester

1 chem/gas harvester

1 lot for whatever they chose...

The problem comes in when the Architect wants to be self sufficient... which wasn't the way the profession was designed. You should be "supplimenting" the resources you purchase off the bazaar/miner with your own harvesters.

Can't have all of that and a house too (with the exception of a round Naboo house, 1 lot), but I'm guessing you already know that...

Which brings us back to the basic problem...The people that build houses wouldlike toa own house too...

Now that is not bad, I must admit. Come to think of it there are some resources that I would like not having to use up one or two lots on. It would be worth it to me to pay 1.5:1 to a supplier. The problem is I have not met any supplies IN GAME that will sell it at that price. If there are some on the Kettemoor server who do, I would be willing to do business with you.

Ideas?Yeah.

1) It is not practicle to purchase supplies off of the bazaar/miner. The reason for not using the bazaar is obvious. When people sell you resources at a minumum of 3/cr and people scream when you try to sell that structure for a little more than or equal to 3/cr you make no little profit. Architects are already the lowest credit to resource seller out there. If they did what they where "suposed" to do, they would be paying to build people things.

If a miner class existed, I would guess the price of materials would go down. Say the game was designed as you say is intended(it probably is meant to be this way I agree). Everyone should pretty much buy the resources needed and maybe mine a few of their own. Now apply that to all crafting classes. Who is going to be affected the most by this, in terms of potential profit? The class that has to buy the most resources. The architect.

I have a few ideas that would help the profession.

- Make structures decay, but not in the traditional sense. When a structure decays, reduce the number of items that structure can hold. If house is over the limit because of this, send an email warning to the owner. If the maintanence is not paid promptly, or items removed to lower the contents, a random item is destroyed.

Didn't keep up on the upkeep? Looks like the roof got a hole and some water damage got in and ruined your couch!

- Make housing more customizable. Add things such as siding, different windows, high quality roofing. Make these things change the appearance and reduce the maintanence rate.

- Anything that requires maintance... have a portion of that paid to the Architect that made the building. This would help take care of the very low prices that are paid for an architects goods.

One final idea, and this is just eye candy, but I always found maintance costs, the way they are paid, sort of silly. I can suspend my belief and immerse myself in a game like this, but I cant imagine how a machine, or building uses money to "fix" itself.

I always had the image of the money being paid like it currently is, but instead of the structure turning those credits into magical floating tools that appear when no one is around and "fix" the structure, I envisioned the money being picked up by some npc "repair crew". You place the money in the machine cash box. When Coronet Maintanence Inc comes around, they open the box, take your payment, then proceed to work on your harvestor/house.

I think it would be cool to see NPCs with ladders and repair tools standing around a harvestor.

Now, if that repair crew was to be slaughtered by some thugs, you might have to hire another company for security.

I don't think homes should decay either. Just think of how angry some players would get if their house crumbled up when they had a bunch of resources, furniture, or even deeds inside. Naturally all of the items inside would be destroyed as well. They can't be dropped on the ground. They can't go into your inventory. It may be bad for the housing market for houses not to decay, but I think the customer backlash would be even worse.

All non-house architect items should decay, however--especially factories and harvesters. Sure, they are getting repaired all the time by the money you put in, but everything wears out over time. If this weren't the case, everyone would still be wearing clothes from decades past, be sitting on furniture from hundreds of years ago, and whatever else you can come up with.

It is wrong that players have to have more than one account just to have enough lots to be successful in their profession and enjoy the benefits of it. Armorsmiths can barely get by with the item capacity because of the huge number of different items required. The developers (or those higher up, if that is the case) need to find the solution for the database problem. You'd think that the amazing success of the game (according to the number of players) would be reason enough to spend some more money on a better database system....

Arguments like this make me shake my head in disbelieve. I agree that you architexts aren't making enough money, but ALL the suggestion you are making are a BIG KICK IN THE FACE OF FULLTIME MINERS!

Yes, you people are actually insulting the hard working individuals you should be working with.

Here, let me refraze everything mentioned upto now from a Miner perspective:

1. Architects should be the only class that is fully self supporting (as most already are), hence taking the food out of the mouth from miners. Architects should even get more lots, so they're even more self supporting, completely defying the aim of the game: "no one class should ever be completely self supporting"

2. Add building decay. By that raising the price a good miner (one that mines at secluded spots on 90+% resource spots a good 3 hours walk from town) has to pay for getting the resources. Reality check: this will RAISE the price of the resources you want to buy. Because the architect is the only one that's able to create that "upkeep kit", either forcing miners to go into the architect tree orraise the price he asks for his resources to bve abkle to upkeep his machinery.

Whatarchitects need to do is:

RAISE YOUR PRICES

Raising prices is the ONLY thing that actually works. Ignore complaining customers, let them flood that 1 or 2 architects that still sell below price. Sooner or later (and trust me, it'll be sooner) they'll stop doing that, it's a proved concept. Set your price at 7 cpu and see: you will STILL sell your wares, it might take a week or 2 for the customers to adjust, but they will.

Those handfull of architects that sell at 2 - 3cpu aren't the ones that ruin the market, IT'S ALL THE OTHER ARCHITECTS THAT FOLLOW THE EXAMPLETHAT DO!

So, yes, it's your own responsability and it's your own choise. You yourself made it so that you cannot buy resources at 3cp from the bazaar, it's no-one elses fault. The customers in this game are FILTHY rich. Their daily income is skyhigh, compared with the prices you architects sell your wares for.

Is a Mediumhouse realy worth no more then talking to a few NPC's, take the shuttle to another town, rinse, repeat3 times?

Is a Medium harvester realy worth no more then talking to a few NPC's, take the shuttle to another town, rinse, repeat 5 times or the value of the resources itharvested in2 to 3days?

Is aLarge harvester realy worth no more then talking to a few NPC's, take the shuttle to another town, rinse, repeat60 times or the value of the resources itharvested in4 to5days?

I realy realy want you to stopbeating dead horses, blaming everyone and it's sister but yourselves and start discussing constructive things instead of this whine fest I see here the last few days.
