Thread: Clothes don't wear out, why should harvesters?
SOE have a horrible job on their hands.... one that I wouldn't wish on an enemy.
They want to limit loot in such a way that it doesnt damage their crafting system (not too much loot, and not too powerfull), but at the same time a large portion of their user base is used to playing games where the whole aim (and pleasure) is finding better loot.
I'm a not realy a combat character, but I get plenty of invitations to hunt anyway. I rarely do them because of the horrible loot system in place at the moment.
I was offered a place on a Krayt hunt, but i declined because I couldnt stand the idea of hunting with a group that included strangers... for the most valueable loot in the game.... when "Ninja" looting is so prevelant.
The first change i would make to the system would be to make loot in groups be randomly split (ala Dark Ages of Camalot)... and I would have a notification message go to the whole group each time saying who got what. It wouldn't be a perfect fix, but it would help alot.
The next change I could see making would be to add alot of other loot drops which were components in all of the other crafeting professions, not just armor and weapons. Maybe something drops an item which would make a highly efficient drill bit or something. A rare drop of some special hide that can be used to make fancy boots... who knows what you could do with this.
The important part is that loot either has to be interesting (something you can display in your house etc), usefull but not powerfull (a music machine for your cantina), or it has to be used by one of the crafting professions (and even then it shouldn't be so good it makes the crafter item too valuable).
If they could introduce enough variety of small loot drops, then they could increase the frequency that you would get them.
It is really important that there is no phat loot!
They cycle of kill-loot-sell-level like EQ is a treadmill to no where. I was never more pleased with a game decision as "no phat loot". Do missions, kill for a reason, but not just to get loot.
