Thread: PA hall critical fail: An Open Letter to the Developers of SWG
Padashar,
I understood exactly what you meant by getting your tool to "reboot" to the default page of "Furniture". The problem with this is that I have had 3 fails on my very first attempt at crafting during gameplay. Ie. I log on for the first time in over 17 hours after work, open my tool, and make an item. 3 times I have crit failed. The only ones I am accounting for (3) are major items, ie. deeds. This is not counting the numerous other items and components crafted daily. So again, you are one lucky man.
As for the furniture remark I was simply statingthe crafting items I get the most fails on in my tests. Furniture by far has the highest crits. I would have to guess 1 in 12 crit....since I'm at work and don't have my data. But it's very close to that.
As for the higher quality tools I guess I'm just gonna have to get a 99% one to further varify the tests I am running.
1) Never start crafting when you are combining an item that is waiting on another tool to finish an essential piece. Don't even start the process or if you did back out.
2) Don't try a combine if it needs pieces out of a crate that you haven't taken out. If making a wall for example and you forgot to take the struc mods out of the crate, exit and take them out and restart the process now that they are out instead of opening your inventory and taking them out thus displaying them in your crafting session window also.

I am probably between meploriam and perpetual_dark on failures. However I have comment.
I am not meaning to sound harse Perpetual_Dark but I do not believe you are a very efficient architect, nor do you plan ahead very well. That and you have an almost Pious attitude with regards to you not using factories. Loose it. They are a legitimate game tool put there by design and are very effective, even necessary for some schematics. Oh and I do not mean you should use them for the XP, I was a master before I even set my first one up.
There are many posts on these forums that are filled with tips on being a better architect. I suggest going through them. I did, and I have become much more successful, and much more relaxed as a result.
I am sorry if you feel that I am a poor architect, especially from reading one of my threads/posts. I realize I have only been playing this game for 14 weeks, and have only made master a little over a week ago, and only crafted 7 PA halls, a few dozen medium harvesters, 40 or so small houses, and about a dozen medium and large houses, and have only played 3 skills outside the artisan tree to master during beta. I know, Imust bea pious, self righteous player who thinks I am the end all when it comes to the skills I practice, and I must not ever look through the forums.. (sarcasm?)
I do not know where you got the idea that I dont use factories, or dont think they are effective or necessary. I have stated in many posts here that factories were never intended as a leveling tool, and this was discussed heavily in the beta forums (over and over and over...). I use a factory.. as a matter of fact, if there is not a novice architect online that I know well enough to trust with 50k ore and 12.5k metal, I will run blocks in the factory instead. I did not however, use it for leveling as a novice, although I did use it. It is a great time saver in the respect that you can run 200 blocks while you go tend harvesters, and it can save on the carpel tunnel.. I have agreed that for tier3 and 4schematics the factory should either give 100% xp on the items that are factory required, or they should not be factory required. I do not think that a player should be able to come into the game and sit around while a factory churns out 100% xp while his PA buddies feed him resources and money. Anyone that complains about factories not giving 100% xp from the architect profession is chasing the wrong problems. You yourself stated that you made master before making a factory.. do you honestly think that new players should have a factory to get all their xp for them? Just as I believe that every player should earn their skills (i always charged for teaching, and I always paid for my own skills), I believe every player should earn his/her own xp. If you think that I am wrong, then tell me. I do have a strong set of morals that I was raised with that says a person should earn everything they get. Put whatever words you want on that..
As far as my efficiency, I have over 2 million credits in the bank, which I have earned in the last 6 days. I started 6 days ago with 20k, and a 50k per day deficit on harvesters. I have filled 6 orders for PA halls in that time, as well as 3 factories, and 7 medium harvesters, and about 120 pieces of furniture, and about a dozen other miscellaneous orders. I am spending anywhere from 50k to 200k per day on resources (from harvesters or from players who mine and sell) and I am making a good profit on that investment. I lost a factory, PA hall, medium harvester, a wall, a turbine, and over 30 structural modules (8 in a row at one point) in one day. I look back at all the things I have made, and realize that on average, for every 1000 resources I use, I have lost about 200. That comes to 20%. As far as the next week is planned, I have a list of customers that are waiting on products. The list starts with 2 large houses, a medium, a pa hall, 3 more mediums, and a large. If I were just looking for money, I would do the PA hall first and forget the others until it was done. I do not work that way as customer service is more important to me than making 5 cr per or more on PA halls. I will be happy to fill the house orders, although I will fill them out of 2cr per resource purchases and my own harvesters, and reserve paying 3-4 cr per for resources for PA halls. I will cut my margins to deliver on time or early. My volume makes up for the smaller margins. If this is inefficient, explain efficiency to me. I will not blow off customers and triple my rates to make higher profit margins with fewer turns. Part of my R/L job is working with inventory management, and determining ROI on inventory. If I turn out more houses per day at a smaller margin, I will still make more money, and in doing so, make more customers. I will have to work harder, yes, and playing 8 hours on a work day is not easy, but I make customers happy and they will come to me in the future. I play this game as I would run a business. I enjoy it that way.
As far as the failures go, heres a new one for all of you.. yesterday I crafted to PA halls. I made 34 walls, about 130 blocks by hand, the rest I had a novice grind out or ran in the factory. I assembled those 2 PA halls, and I made a few various pieces of furniture. I crafted the blocks and walls while running, swimming, sitting, or standing in front of my station. I had 3 tools running at once, cooking up 2 walls while assembling a 3rd. I moved inventory back and forth from my backpack in mid-assembly, opened crates while in assembly, and ran out of ingredients. On top of all this, I used the crappiest ores and metals I have used in a week (some ore at 131 toughness and metals around 300 toughness) and even did final assembly on both PA halls with some 343 decay resistance ore and 500+ metal.. And through it all, I had ZERO failures. Explain that one.. toward the end,I was TRYING to fail.. using some 34 toughness ore I somehow got a hold of, and I was not failing. My partner stood next to me failing 3 Ubese pieces in a row, and the novice that was making blocks made 100 with 23 fails (the better ore and metal I had too 600+ on both for toughness). I was so nervous hitting the last assembly on the last PA hall because I could not fail on ANYTHING! I figured I was prime for a failure, but I got a deed out of it.. So I made up a dining table and some chairs to give to the buyer as a house warming gift, and headed to town to deliver it. I had one more chair to make as I ran back to town, and guess what.. it failed.. first failure of the day.. nearly 8 hours straight of playing and my first failure was the last thing to craft..
I was starting to think that a dev had read the post here and was sitting in the background dialing my skill up to 100 or something.. hehe..
But then just before logging off, I got a tell from a customer that lost a large house deed when re-deeding and the csr was talking to him. He needed a date from when he purchased it. I had a screen shot of the building when he placed it so I could providethe date and time he purchased it. While talking to him, I got stuck. I tried /unstick, and nothing.. I submitted a ticket.. The CSR contacted me to prove he had purchased the house from me, and while explaining I had a screenshot and all I mentioned I was stuck and could the CSR come unstick me after he was done with that guy.. He ignored me, and I sat there for about 20 minutes before giving up and logging.. so much for customer service.. the guy could have told me I would have to wait for my ticket, or something, but he just flat out ignored me..
And the kicker is this customer lost his deed 4 days ago and I have been waiting 10 days to get a new deed for a house of mine that the door was in a hill.. The CSR came on at 2AM sunday night and emailed saying he was online and wanted to give me a deed.. 2AM!! I am on for 18 hours sunday and 3 hours after logging off they come online to help.. 10 days after the issue.. nice huh?
