Thread: My final say on this small house pricing fiasco.

I'll repost, or no one will read it
Ok, so, if the XP is attractive, why not just focus on making the COMPONENTS that get you all that xp in the first place? I mean structural modules make you 500xp per, and you'd be making them anyway right? So when you get too many of them, why not make WALLS? Your going to need them to make larger components, and the xp for making them is not too much less than a small house. I would venture to say that at the end of the day, you will get as much xp for crafting all of these components, using the same amount of resources, as you would by making small houses (I am sure there are power-levelers out there who can crunch some xp numbers and rip my theory to shreds).
Besides getting the XP, you're building your stock of items you will need down the line, when you get into factories and such. Not only that, but a valid argument can be made that these items are much more marketable on any planet than small houses are. I don't know about you, but after a day of mission running between ALL of the cities on Naboo, pitching my small houses, I am LUCKY to make 1 sale. I haven't tried to sell any yet, but I am sure there are plenty of architects out there who would pay $$ for walls and Str. Mod's rather than grind through making them themselves.
The fact is, it is highly unlikely that the small housing market will EVER be stable enough to support all of the novice architects trying to support their harvesters while level through their craft. Another thread brings up the point that small houses are just not USEFUL enough to warrant even 10k architects are asking.
So, architects, I have heard you talking of collusion, forming unions, trying to fix prices. Well, I think thats impossible. We can still work together, however, and support eachother. Higher-level architects can support lower-level architects by buying the components they make. Lower-level architects can help to create a trickle-down system that will stablize the prices on the upper-end items that their components go into; when they reach that higher level themselves, a new crop of novice architects will be there to supply them with components.
Mentioning factories to automate the process and take out the low-level supplier would just over-complicate the issue. I think you could buy handcrafted components from low-level architects for less $$ than a factory would cost to make the same thing.
Think about it, and support your fellow architects. Our numbers are dwindling (which is not bad), and we need to make sure those of us that stick with it will have a solid economy from which to reap rewards.
It's almost impossible to set a price for the houses. I have sold each of my small houses for 20k, no less. I have seen Deeds for Small Correllian houses in the bazaar for 3k. Guess what? I had 6 small Tatooine houses on my vendor 20k each....all sold in a day....that 3k one is still sitting in the bazaar.
Shouting in the town square isn't what sold my houses either. My shop is in a small community of homes and businesses along with 2 other architects, my deeds sit on my personal vendor and they sell...quickly too I might say.
Rarely someone will say that my price is too high, that they can get it from such and such cheaper...I say "Go for it". I will make my structure moduals and hold them until I need them. No biggie to me. I have problems enough keeping enough resources to do the things I want as it is. Even running 4 personal LQ ore harvesters it is taking over a full RL day to get the pieces for a medium house. There are plenty of architects out there, so they know what to do...no regrets from me. (Yes I am a do it alone architect---using all personal harvesters yet ugh)
I think it is the architect's reputation that helps sell the home. I talk to my customers, tell them to be sure to ask questions, help them set up the home, and the admin rights, etc. They have all now placed orders for medium homes from me, and I just got Buildings II yesterday.
Lastly, I don't see how tearing at each other on the forums is ever going to solve this problem. As the market enlarges there is going to be alot of competition, but with all the new players that will continue to flood in over the next weeks, months, and even years there will be a base for all levels to run our businesses as we wish.
I wish there was a way to level the prices, but I just don't see that happening. To be required to have a PA hall for the PA to become official is hurting the architects field atm. They want to get thru, but not waste their creations on the way.
Blessed be,
You, I and everyone in the game have the right to charge whatever is reasonable to them for their goods. Pure and simple fact. I sell small houses for less than 10k and factories for 20-30k wayless than i have seen anyone else sell them. It is an economy use or learn economics or die trying to overcharge people.
I more than pay for the upkeep of my harvestors and homes and make enough to keep my friends in cash.
If you feel your small house is worth 50k and you have a customer sell it more power to you. If you cant find a customer lower your prices or go broke. I run 6 harvestors 2 solar generators and a couple of houses i can build 2 factories a day or 5-8 small houses. Thats way more cash than the upkeep on those items. I see people selling factories for 50-60k again if you sell it good luck to you. Just dont come crying on the forums when you cant compete. If you dont compete you wont survive crying will not help.
I dont advertise all my sales are word of mouth and as that spreads accross the server if you charge too much you will start selling way lees
.
Sorry no name or server given as I already had weaponsmiths buying all my guns so they could continue to jack customers for 30k.
Good luck to all but please, those crying about prices go open a real business charge your inflated prices and cry to your bank manager when bankruptcy hits.
Im not certain anyone will win over folks in this thread. I won't do any more than tell you what we do.
Our first homes went to friends for free. "Here have a house, please put it right there."These were 3 people I know in real life, they dont craft anything they all want to be Bounty Hunters, no biggie. We sold the very firstsmall home for 1.5 cost of materials to a master craftsman. He placed his home near our mining operation. We placed a few homes nearby for mineral storage.
This merchant made hourly trips into town to 'shout' his loc and mention his store. We started helping him do that and sent way points to many people.
We searched the bazaar for craftsfolk selling high quality items. We made contact with them in email and offered them at cost shops with all the crafting stations. They came to our village and now we had more vendors, more advertising, more foot traffic.
I placed a house that said "Homes for Sale - Contact Saxos" and people did. About 10 a day. Most people blanched at the 20k price I asked but I sold 2. The next day 15 people asked and I sold 3.
Today I had 7 emails and 5 tells, it was a slow day. People I sell homes to place them and get asked "HEY! Where did you get that thing?" And I sell more homes. We sell about4 small homes and one medium every day or two. One day I had a run on 7 small homes.
I still offer discount for people that place their home in our village, now named Broken Hills. We don't permit mining or power collection in town but the surround hills are mineral rich so people dont mind a 200m walk.
When we sold a medium house, I asked 100k for it. He agreed, so I suggested a slight discout if he placed it in our town. Now we have every model we can make on display and I still have that house that says "Homes for Sale - Contact Saxos" ... and people do.
Saxos
Oh I forgot. No one sells house deeds in the bazaar in reality. I have 1 home, a generic class 2 in that bazaar. Every 6 days I yank the sale and resubmit it.
The house is not really for sale at all. It has a long description telling people about our houses and our prices. It tells them who to email and what to expect.
A few people ask, "hey how about I just buy that 3k one instead?" I explain to them its advertising and no one has complained yet, they sort of think it's clever... so do I.
Saxos
lol, Damidge....nice post. Yet another 'I know it all' comparing the SWG economy to the real world economy. For starters, talking about somebody going to open a business in rl, I have experience and succesful too. Your business wouldn't last a day as there are way more expenses than just getting resources. Take into account that you would have to pay for your resources, according to what most reasonable sales go for on the bazaar(at least my server) thats 3 cr/resource. Then you have to pay taxes and many many other expenses. Therefore to even get by, you would have to sell at 5cr/resource and probably more.
Yes, you can make it with your prices for selling in SWG. But when you start to compare that to the real world economy, I would say it is you whoshould go learn something about economics.
Stop calling this a free-market too. The only thing that even remotely resembles a free market is that I can set my own prices. Other than that, I'm told what I can make, how I have to make it, and what I need to do to make it. That in no way is a free market.
