Thread: Crit Failures on Final Combine

I am Vars brother and last night when I failed on the heavy I waited until I had 2 crit fails in a row then made 2 sucessfull combinds. As soon as I tied the Heavy BOOM! crit fail. I have had spells of crafting where I can produce 140 items with out a crit fail and then times where all I get is crit fails. There is nothing you can do to help provent it. It is totally random and building houses in real life there are billions of ways you can provent major problems.

One other question why is a Crafting station produced with General crafting experimentation? Seems it should be based from Structure Experimentation.

There was a previous thread on this subject once, everyone had a differentway to reduced falures.

Macros, fail first on something else and then combine, experiment everything fully first, only use goodresources. People have tried nearly everything.

I beleive we came to the conclusion that the only thing that actually helps is standing naked and waving a live chicken over your head as you hit the final combine key.

If there were no crits it wouldnt be exciting, i find it quite a rush to hit combine on a really expensive thing. Your right, it IS like gambling, the same feeling i get playing roulette. Without crits i wouldn't play Architect, it would be boring....

It is clearly obvious you have never failed a Heavy Harvester, Large Home, or PA hall. Please, do that a few times and then come back and tell us about the "Happy-Fun joys of Crit-failing".

I have tried the chicken....

I have tried suspending the computer upsidedown in a pool of water while using a 10' broom stick covered in duct tape and leaves while listening to Jonny Cash backwards while having the chicken pluck it owen feathers...

Short of talking to Gargamel and selling my soul to him as his eternal sex slave I have tried it.

Something I noticed last night:

As a tailor, when I critical failure on a combine, all my resources disappear and the crafting station resets and is ready to load new resources immediately.

As an architect, when I critical failure my resources stay in the station but the station appears to be in a strange state. This happens since the first major game update patch. I used to try everything I could to get the resources back out, but nothing worked. Finally cancel back, and try again with everything lost.

Last night I was trying some bio engineering combines, and noticed the same thing as the architect. The station critical fails, yet leaves the resources in the machine. You can not drag them out, and if you cancel...you lose them. Accidentally, as I was powering through some tissues, I clicked assemble after a failure. It created the item, and gave me xp. No lost items. Shocked, I wanted to try again. I had failed TONs of times in the last 5 minutes, and of course then went on a streak for 10+ minutes with no failures. Then I got a critcal failure, checked things carefully..and hit assemble. It created the item successfully. I repeated this dozens of times the rest of the evening. Critical failures were able to be bypassed in this profession as of yesterday.

Did something change with the recent patch to allow you to combine immediately following a critical failure? I plan to test this on the architecture stations tonight, but it was clearly working on a bio station that acts similarly. If it works, I don't know whether to be happy about the change to crits, or upset that I cancelled out of a critical failure on a fusion generator the other night.

No.... But he allways seems to show up just after I crit fail on some thing of value though...

If you ask me he is kind of spooky.

I have also tried that when it Crits and leaves the items in the crafting tool as if the items remained. First time I saw that I was soo happy! WOoOoOooOoOT we get to keep our items! Then I hit assemble and it puked out some error about how I didnt have the proper amount of ingrediants. I recently did this too when making structure modules. Got a little click happy and critted and it would not let me continue with the combind. Not unless you are doing some thing differnent.

One question thoug. Has any one else noticed the success rate increase from macro crafting then manual crafting? I made 14 wall modules last night with out a single fail by macro crafting. Then started to make furniture with my specialize tool and got crits. My Tools are pretty good using 998 conductivity with an experimentation of 99%.

Any one have a macro for the specialized crafting tool? One that ends the crafting after you put the ingrediants in??

I agree with earlier postings that losing the resources on final combine and NOT the components would be more fair and acceptable. The resource loss is no small penalty, but losing components that have already passed the test is just way to much 'cruel and unusual punishment'.

Yes, I can understand someone crit failing on something complex on a medium house with 0/0/0/2. You only have +10 (or is it +15) structure assembly.

I quit crit failing much when I started pushing the furniture line up (more +assembly points). They need to add more in the contruction line though. They need +10, +10, +10 and +10 in the 4 steps of contruction branch. We only get +55 for Master.

heh... that hit the nail right on the head. Every assembly I have done this week has been like roulette for me.. Me thinking that I had the odds of roulette as well against me! after 1 heavy critsunday nite and 2 heavies critmonday, tuesday I try a large house, very careful, experiemneted everything, used stuf in 900+ stats of the qualities listed on the schematic (toughness ibelieve it was).. hit combine and boom, fail again... I should have done that brick grinding trick until i got the two crits in a row...

after this horrid bad streak i never ever combine in my PA hall anymore.. i run back to my storage house and combine there.. ive never crit failed on something large in my small house that used to be my vendor shop.. ahh the superstition

As a non-Master (yet) I have always took solacein the fact that I still got most of the experience through the process of crafting the components on midrange and up items. The biggest hardship is that now I can't sell that item to fund additional resource purchasing or harvesting. If Iwas a Master, there would be no solace since I no longer care about the XP. I think the devs consider crits as one of their "money sinks", and that's all it's about. They probably have some variable that increases crit probabilities in proportion to the overall money in the economy LOL. Still would be nice if you could keep some percentage of your components/resources.

I notcied I DO crit more often at the public crafting station though than I do at my 13+ 96% effective station in my house. In my house, I crit every now and then on a structure module. Last night at the public station, I crit failed 8 structure modules (out of 30) and then 2 walls in a row. Needless to say, I moved back to my house and made 8 medium harvesters with only 1 fail on a structure module.

Stay away from those evil public crafting stations.
