Thread: Everything you ever wanted to know about Structural Factories.
Also, about schematics: When you set the number on a schematic, is that the total number of items you can make with it, or the total number of items you can make at one time? In other words, does a schematic ever get "used up"? (other than the materials it was built with no longer being available). Do you set the number of items to make, or does it just make items until it runs out of materials and/or it reaches the number specified on the schematic?
Regarding XP from factories being used: do you always get structual XP, or is it XP for the type of items being made?
I understand that when I am putting a factory together, I can fail on it. Just like anything else.
However ... can a factory itself, while producing a large quantity of items, critically fail something? If I load up a schematic for Structural Modules & rev it up to produce 50, is there a chance I'll only have 45 when it's all done?
A factory crate is simply an item that has a volume of 5, and contains a number of identical units... different items have a max crate size, like structural units can have up to 100 in a crate, synthetic cloth can have up to 25 in a crate...
To get an item out of the crate, you just right-click and select Get Item from Crate. Once out, you cannot put items back in. Every item from the crate is identical, it even has the exact same serial number (meaning you can use it in factory schematics made with that serial numbered item, or in schematics that require multiple IDENTICAL items).
Just hope the server doesn't crash while you are pulling items out of a factory crate.
If that happens, and you are rolled back to before you pulled the item out of the crate... the crate is broken and unusable, you can no longer remove items from it. *sigh*
Given the general instabilities of the servers now, and the high chance of it dropping at any particular moment, this makes factory crates somewhat scary.
Usually they are a great thing, but I had a crate of 100 structural mods which, after pulled 3 out, the server crashed... now it is a crate of 98 structural mods, tightly sealed, and me without a box opener.. or axe, apparently.
And for those who don't realize it, a crate of 100 struct mods is 25,250 burnt resources (20,200 ore and 5,050 metal).

Since a structure factory can only make structure items, all your XP will be structure XP. I imagine other types of factories will give whatever XP is appropriate for the item being created.
2500.
All structures take 100 times their maintenance cost to re-deed.
Since the maintenance cost is per half-hour, that means you must have 50 hours in maintenance paid... which is 2 days and 2 hours.
So essentially, you need 2 days maintenance to re-deed any structure.
Easiest to just add 2 zeros to the maintenance cost, though... or just try to destroy to see what it tells you.
A few people asked this but I didnt see any answer. If someone did answer, it means I am as blind as a bat and I apologise. Is it possible for a structure to fail when making an item? ie. If I put in 20,000ore and 5000 metal, will I know it's going to churn out 100 structural components for sure?
