Thread: New Poll Decay ARCHITECTS ONLY
Well, i took economics, but thanks for the refresher course...lol, just teasing.
Again, we still have the assumption that people will charge more... and that is in my opinion the fundamental flaw.
There's no compelling reason why i HAVE to charge more. If i'm an architect/miner, my costs have not gone up except for the lost time to rebuild harvesters when they decay away. If i'm a miner, maybe my options are limited, but I still do have choices... Even if i only run 10 lots of harvesters, I can still bring more than enough from personals to pay for everything I would want to do and make extra money along the way. If I'm in another profession, as i said, many of those don't require large quantities of resources so they can easily get by running personals instead of the mediums and larges they might run now.
Decay on existing harvesters is only one option for solving the long term demand problem and long term demand does not impact short term prices except in this case it could actually drop prices as people may decide not to pay as much for the item that will go away vs. the item that will last forever. I might pay 500k for the composite armor suit that lasts forever, but I only pay 100k for the one that goes away in a couple months. The argument works well in reverse, doesn't it?
And again, we can't just discount the rest of the player community. Is it in their best interests to leave decay out? yes.... but again, not everyone is just out for themselves and we need to take their opinions just as seriously as we do other architects. There are lots of players in every community with a good head for business and they all have differing opinions.... I know I would never automatically discount a players opinion just because they aren't an architect.
I'm an MA and I'm for a well thought out approach to introducing Decay. My only concern is that they'll do some hairbrained approach to it and screw things up in the process =>P
If a structure is never moved it should last a very long time (6-12 months) and that duration should be able to be extended indefinately. With Decay should come a reduction in the maintenance costs. You pay to maintain the structure and employee an Architect to do repairs once in a while (Or buy a Droid with an Architect Made component that would wander around the house negating decay)
Moving a structure should cause damage. The 100 year old house thing doesn't fly with me. Apart from the day to day repairs that are made (Maintenance) there are occasions where major work is required that go above and beyond the maintenance stuff. That 100 year old house hasn't been moved from one state to another then to another continent either and if it was rest assured the risk of it beind damaged is pretty darn high.
While I agree this isn't entirely an Architect issue this is the Architect Board. I would also say that the Architect has the largest material requirements of any profession in the game. Thus we not only make the harvesters but also have the greatest dependence on them. Thus if decay was introduced we'd be the most impacted by it for good and bad.

I have seen several people say that it isn't fair to only ask Architects what they think of decay on structures.
I disagree... (just to be difficult
...
Yes... alot of people use structures.... maybe 30% or so of the population?
Almost 100% of the population owns a weapon.
Would it be ok with wepon smiths if we all (non weapon-smiths) asked SOE to remove decay from weapons?
Don't be silly.. of course those that have a vested interest in never paying for anything again will tend to say "No". Likewise, those of us that will have ZERO demand for our product unless some form of decay is introduced are almost certain to say "Yes".
The only question should be.... In what form/fashiondo we introduce it?
Ahhh, what fun we're having today....![]()
so, that 30% that require a structure get no voice? what about the other 70% of the market that we COULD sell to that don't require it? If someonedoesn't have to have a structure and introducing decay will stop them from buying one, doesn't that reduce the potential demand for that product?
