That is weird. It implies there is a software flag somewhere, and the serverchanges the flag at a time based on something we haven't figured out yet.

Personally, I have no plans to stand outside the curator's office and wait to watch the picture change, just so I could figure this out.

My guess is that the painting is supposed to change every X days on each server. But its possible that the server time is based on actual UP time for the server, so any server down time might affect the amount of time that has been counted for each server. i.e. the internal clocks of the servers get turned off once in a while when the servers are down

Just my speculation.
