Thread: Are Architects Ruining the Economy?

Really? I've yet to see one architect in the game. So when I hit novice tomorrow night, I'm gonna rock the Novice title above my head like a badge hehe

The reason prices are deflated is because 99% of the artisans out can only make general artisan crap, so that's what gets sold. Well, it's understandable since all characters are less than a week old. Most of the handful of powerlevelers out there are only beginning to hit novice in weaponsmithing, architect, or whatever. Everybody else can't craft anything besides CDEF's, General Crafting tools, those Wookie vest things, etc.

In a month or 2, artisans will have at least made it to novice in their elite professions, the economy will be very different because the market will offer more. You'll see fewer CDEF's, chemical survey devices, and whatever the hell else you're selling because artisans will have branched into rarer and more profitable things. I know once I get to architect, I'm not making another CDEF ever.

So stop whining... even if all you wanna do is craft general artisan newbie weapons for the next year or so, there will be more demand for it when artisans are given some time to make it past engineering IV.

Also, if you want to progress to an elite profession in les than 2 months, I'd suggest you destroy some of your stuff. I don't think they expect you to sell everything, and given the amount of crap you have to make just to get to an elite, one person could probably satisfy the demand of 1/5 the server population

As far as the 20 credit listing fee goes I think it is ok at the low-end. I've been seeling scopes with a single buff for 50 and double buff for 75. They take so few resources and are consumable that I didn't think I could sell them for over 100. But that is Tatooine on Lowca. I have noticed that Tatooine on Tarquinas (my wife is playing there) is getting much higher rates in general. But the good news is that at least some of my stuff is selling, but it is a bit slow.

Not really sure what to do at this point. I see so many architects running around Theed lightly it makes me sick to think I have choosen this profession. Not that I dislike the class, but how does a solo player compete with a guy that has 300 PA members financing his powerleveling. I have been getting tells constantly for request for harvesters, houses, and crafting stations. Unfortunately I have only 10 lots to my name and cant keep up with any kind of a demand at all. Very frustrating too when someone asks for a harvester and you you reply back I happen to have one ready to go, and their response is that 1000 credits is to high, they only paid 500 the last time form the other guy. So what do you do? Lower your head and say "fine, 500 then." And walk away feeling completely screwed. My wife is a novice tailor, she tells me what she is selling stuff for. In most cases, what people are paying for clothing makes me just sick. The two of us decided to try and follow the rule of 3 credits per resource used when we started on starsider. I tend to bump that when a more then two types of resources are used. But come on, she got an order for synthetic cloth last night, 5 pieces for 2500 credits, and then six hours later was given a standing order for 100 more when I get her factory constructed. When she first got the order she asked me how much to charge, and after she told me the resources required, I told her 50 credits each, or 400 credits for 10. The armorsmith insisted that it should really be 500 credits because of all the work required to make it. Has anyone out there actually attempted to hand sample ore at 62%?

I think a lot of the reason you're not selling anything on the bazaar is not freebies (although they hurt) but that you're pricing it too high.

I did some math (yes, math) and found out that running and powering and maintaining a harvester, in 50-70% efficiency territory, I can get resources for about 0.65 cr each unit. So a 250-unit harvester costs me about 163cr. A 45-unit slitherhorn costs about 30cr. A 10-unit weapon powerup? 7 cr. So if I pass a scope to you for 28cr I'm making 300%, and people are selling them for 100's of credits.

So essentially most of the stuff on the bazaar is waaay overpriced!

Try it yourself. The kg/hr is the number of resources per minute. Figure out how much your wind harvester produces per 30 minutes, and divide the maintenance rate by that number to get your cr/unit for energy. Then multiply that by your mineral harvester's power and add the mineral harvester's maintenance rate (this is cost/half-hour for the mineral harvester). Then multiply its output by 30 and divide by the cost/half-hour. This is your cost-per-unit for your harvester. Those that don't bother maintaining the harvesters pay even less (but get less output).

Small number, eh?

So try charging a reasonable profit, say 20-30% (1cr per unit). People will still think you're giving stuff away and you'll be driving the economy too.

I agree with him. You are pricing it too high. When the Currency and Trade was created by the developers, they had real world ethics in mind. This is why you have the freedom to sell the way you do. I worked at Office Depot as a sales associate in computers (I don't work there anymore though) and one thing I learned was customer service beats any competitor. You have to be willing to sacrafice; don't think your getting the low end of the stick because you sold a Bone Armor for half the price than it's normally offered. Do your research. Check the Bazaar terminals, if 80% of the people charge their armor at 3000 cr, then you sell it for half, or even less, you'll make less than you THINK you should, but you will actually gain more acceptance.

Think about it, if you have 6000 cr and you see bone armor for 3000 all the way down, and then you see one for 1500, which ones are you gonna buy? The lowest one? You will basicly rob your competitors customers and each time they access the Bazaar, they are gonna look for YOU. don't look at it as making the most money in as little time as possible, think about making a little money as MUCH as possible.

Remember, Work+Quality=Cost. But Quality will always out wiegh the work, so sell cheap. But make sure it's quality. If your complaining about Artisan work and Arcutecture than it's probably not for you. You have the right to sacrafice your skills for something else.

And Finally, consider the time of this game. While there are some advanced players out there, especially beta testers, at this time frame, 3000 credits or more is way too much for anything, consider the future when better armor and weapons will become available, how much will you sell it for then? Bone armor might be the best to YOU but probably not later when your fighting in The Galatic Civil war when Boba Fett takes you on. Another factor? Needs vs Wants. These are keys to being a good sales man, it don't matter what your profession or level is.

In a free market people will price you out. I wanted to be a WS but someone on my server made it just b4 I did...what did they do...they sold d-18 for 50 cr....I was selling 28-52 DMG cdef's for 250...well they stoped selling...so I made backpacks....price has stayed at 1000 for two days...yes

Now...I got a tell from this WS who was complaining he was too far behind in his crafting and people wont leave him alone...well he got what he deserved...he killed a market (One Town) and now is busy making crap guns(he dont know how to use crafting system to make better ones yet) and is bugged by everybody for guns CHEAP.

Not trying to nail the guy he will learn...but my point is this game is going in fads

CDEF's

Back Packs

Harvestors..etc ya got to keep moving or someone will trash the market grinding!

Dont know what to make next...maybe homes/factorys ya thats it...I will make a factory and take back the WS market...MUHAAAA

I haven't read through all of this, but I know I put some crap up there in the bazaar, and most of it sells. Chalk it up to people who don't know, just bought the game think they need something whatever, most of my junk sells. I have been experiementing and get some decent stuff, but the better stuff i keep or give to a freind or two, but I have had problems selling, it may be the prices, the galaxy I don't know, but waiting to get healed last night I made 1K standing there. Thats not a ton of cash and I know I need more to build more harvestors and what not but its cash and I did little for it. I topped the night off building mod after mod and i usually add them to guns and sell them as well. Everyday some newbie gets in to the galaxies and doesn't know any better. and when my stuff doesn't sell, only a survival knife is all i had not sell and that was my first day in game, I will make sure I have the higher stats better metal and experimented on the best I can. Right now I do what I can an eek out a living. I am doing better than some and a lot worse than others.

remember ...its a game...have fun.

Give me a break.. Its an economy stupid.

So stuff doesn't sell at the ridiculous prices you expect it to ow want it to, so the market is down in some items. So you don't get the cushy ride we all got in beta.

Here's the deal.. You learn what sells fast at what price and make it.. It's what we call retail.

Give it a try.

It dosn't sound to me like the economy is broken. Sounds to me like there is to many architects. Sooner or later when you figure that there is no money to be made with all the compitetion. You will move on to something else.

And also its simple to understand that people that sell stuff for less then it costs to make will go out of business quite quickly.

SirLagger and Hercule have it right.

It's an economy. You don't have a monopoly, so don't even dream of setting prices. Items will sell (eventually) at the "right" price. If there are too many CDEFs, don't expect them to sell for much unless you can stand out from the crowd. Whether this is through service, quality, or convenience - it's not going to be through the fact that you can make something no one else can. That was cool during the early days - the first few days anything sold and sold at outrageously high prices.

That will settle down now. I've made untold amounts of money from watching the market and determining what was available and what was lacking. I talked to those shopping the bazaar. I determined what was in demand. I sold CDEFs for 700 credits. How did I do that? I made the best quality CDEFs. I had a network of satisfied customers that brought friends to me. I gave them perks (free powerups, cheap "upgrades" when I got better materials to better experiment). I referred them to my tailor friends for wardrobe changes. My tailor recommended others back to me.

There are any number of real-world strategies that work very well in this environment. Of course, there will be those unwilling to work for their money (also like the real world) that won't be able to find an advantage.

FIND SOMETHING YOU LIKE TO DO AND DO IT. This game is to have fun. I suppose if you find making lotsa money "fun" - go for it. If you can't do it, perhaps it will loose its thrill. But please don't come whining to those of us that can figure out a way to work with the system and accomplish our goals.

Ask questions, ask for advice - I for one am not interested in holding a monopoly on strategies.

Tip for the day - server your customers. There's nothing more appreciated than a warm smile, a friendly face, and a helpful attitude. Listen to what your customers want and provide it for them. That's the essence of a capitalist economy. Learn it, use it, love it. (well, ok - you don't have to love it )

Artisan appears to be the 2nd most popular profession. And with so many people trying to power level, the market is going to be like this for a while. In the end I think a number of people will move out of the artisan professions, or at least take up a second profession. I know I have. Its pointless to complain about PA supported artisans, that is simply the way of the world. I suggest moving to a less populated area or joining or making your own PA. I am a solo artisan by the way with no PA affilation.

In the end, anyone can become any profession they want, but that doesn't mean everyone will be able to make money at it.

DONT GIVE STUFF AWAY, ESPECIALLY dont put it in the bazaar for 20 bucks. If you are powerleveling/grinding just destroy the stuff and move on.

I've destroyed more stuff than I care to discuss. Not only is it faster but it protects the market and anyone not powerleveling. You are doing a great diservice to other artisans when you give massive amounts of stuff away.

That is all

I disagree. Its in everyones best interest to get there items out to acrue UXP. Since you can't force everyone to do it. Stoping it yourself only hurts you. They economy will balance but it will take weeks/months. All the complaining in the world wont change this. Prices will eventually gravitate to the insurance cost.
