Thread: Three Reasons Why Architect's Can't Turn a Profit
I would say starting out as novice arch is a tough...but as you progress and do shouts intowns to advetise your wears then things should improve dramaticaly. I started playin on the 3 day fo live and was luck enought to make a parnternship with a fellow artisan...he went weapon smith and i went arch so we worked hand in hand to help each other..in theend the massive amounts of weapon smiths are defientlymaking it difficult forthose of lowerskill,so we dont have it as bad as that yet. My parnters helped me out buy suppliing me resorces to make them medium harvestors and in turn gave me enough cash, expand small shipements of minerals to keep me in business and tried to do the same for them..some faired better than others though.
Even when you make nosales ( had a dry 4 weeks myself) and doing destroy missions, keep harvestors going as much as possible so when you do get large orders... you can handle them quickly and make fast cash.I had 40k after doing harvetor upkeeps and in a span of 2 days i sold over 180k of stuff...some at 3.5 cred per each and some at 2 cred per each(for a partner only), so nowI am all set for almost 2 weeks to prepare for making more sales.
Hope this helps those with this advise...take up 1-2 parnters and help each other out..make a yourcraft time less frustrating. Also try not to let those who undercut at 1-2 cred a peice for their stuff frustrate you as much..not easy but allI can suggest is advetise, advertise and more advertiseing. It is awonder what shouts can do for you. Good luck with your crafting.

To answer you statement Alyxt,I do givebreak on creds for parnters...i'm also merchant too. I usulay get shipments of armor now at no cost and get 35% of the sales cost when I sell them.I also get free armor and droid stuff whenI need it. S it does work out well enough for me to make a decent profit. The more stuff i can sell to attract buyers to my store to then make more orders for myself at 4 cred per each the better. That has been my business plan so far. I'm satiisfied with my progress so far.

but you are not making a profit off your arch skills.. but your merchant skills
thats the point of this thread.... Why Architect's Cant Turn a Profit
not why melee cant turn a profit.. or why cant merchants.. ARCHITECT

I've never charged a ton for anything. I haven't had a massive PA help me with harvesters. I've consistently made OK money and haven't been broke... yet. I'm really enjoying myself. I think we have a lot more serious Architect issues than the economy. I hope we can focus on those.
I'm with terror on this one. I'm not in a PA, and the player community I live in is quite small and on the "backwoods" planet. I'm not a master architect yet. I don't even have a factory. But somehow, slowly but surely, I've built up over a quarter million credits and closing in on a half. Lots of customers and lots of good friends. I'm in /tells all night long and get e-mail orders regularly. And I've been having a great time. (Except for all the bugs and the totally broken merchant class, of course, but I mean the people in general and the level of player interaction.
It's still a profitable profession if you work at it. Are we viable in the future? You all seem to act like we've already got every schematic we're going to get. I think every expansion, PARTICULARLY the player city expansion, will bring and bigger things to make that our customers will desire. Call me a starry eyed optimist.
I'm sorry my message was misundstood. 90% of my profit is with med harvestors, factorys and small houses still...I fillabout 2-3orders a week..with varies numbers of items per order...by advestising my store and wares. I only have about 10% of ouseside profit..that I use as a catch for more creds and customers(several repeat customers so far now). I can only afford to play 3 day a weeks...since I work the other days.. so in between work and my days offI keep harvestors going and then push my sales during the week then wait till next week to make more.
I had to adopt a selling stucture that worked for me to keep a profit. The only full arch'sI know that make a big profit are those who are in a huge PA. SoI have done what I need to do to keep money coming in and enjoy my time crafting and socializing with friends. I also know one other personal friend who uses 2 accounts and keeping maintence up is a full time job for him that he realy doesn't enjoy. He travels off world and even with all theharvestors, he still breaks even or make a small profit ( whoI also help out from time to time if hard times hit him too) with the competion out there.
Mymain point I had was to offer one of many diff strategies to help make profit and enjoy playing.
