Just to cause trouble:

There is one small part of the money equation that everyone has ignored, possibly because it is virtually negligible in most applications. That is, the cost of redeeding. A heavy costs more to redeed than a medium. If you can get onto a vein as soon as it spawns, and leave your harvester there for the entire time it is running, then the cost to redeed becomes part of the noise. However, if you are running a business where you do on-demand resource supply, or you are doing personal harvesting where you just need a certain amount of a resource and then you will move on to the next one, the cost of redeeding can become a major part of the cost of doing business.

Don't let the negative AFKophobes get you down. Play the game however you want.

Is the beta testing almost over for this game?

I run 25 ber 10 mediums.. on lots borrowed from PA members. and i get my merchent 20% efficiency Iv discount. That leads to some cheap minerals.

Look at it this way, 3-4k extra resources per harv per day of the best ever of a resource = insane amount of money later on. Example the only Ionite Intrusive ore we had for months was this one we call Cilla ore (Cillaoedrate)--it's now worth 100 cpu and up to certain armorsmiths on our server, and I wished I had heavies to put on it back when it was current (ber7, hey I never thought they'd go up), now I really wish I had 30-40k more of it. This story has been repeated so many times just on Intrepid it's not even funny.

I guess I don't understand the "I only need a little" argument.

It takes you X amount of time to survey for a spot to place your harvester and set it up. Some time later you visit it, empty it out, and tear it down. (Keeping things simple here.) That TIME is not impacted by the harvester size.

If you *really* only needed a little bit, then you have the following choices:

- kiss off the whole harvesting thing and just buy that little bit - yes, it is more expensive per unit mined, but between the horrible effeciencies of only leaving a harvester up for a day AND the horrible effeciencies of your TIME, maybe you'd just be better off buying it

- set it up for a day, then tear it down

- set it up, and let it run for a week (length of the spawn)

My POV is that if YOU needed it, some other people did also. If you really only need 1 day's worth, then SELL the other 6 day's worth of harvesting. It takes the same amount of your survey/setup/teardown time and can result in a very nice profit.

Typically you can sell 20-30% of what you harvest and completely pay for your mining operations - thus effectively getting all of those resources for your crafting "for free".

I run 90 Harvs, quite alot of em medium

assuming there were all medium I would be pulling 900BER total

If I didnt have 90 lots available to me I would need to run 70 Heavy 13 BER harvesters.

for me its no big deal, so I just save the money on maintenance.

my profit margins are higher, but if I switched to Heavys i could make more stuff and regardless of margin my total sales volume would be higher and my operating profit would be higher.

but Im happy with what I got (although I way be setting up 100 static Mediums soon )

If you switched to Heavies you would pump 30% more stuff up. Your "profit" - just at the raw resource level - would go up at least 25% (because the cost per unit increase is only 0.05 or less). I assume that your net profit at the finished goods level would go up at least 25%.

Well then- My turn for something a little off topic, but not much. Calculating in the cost of the harv's themselves when loading up the lots. How much does a 10 BER Medium sell for, and how much for a 13 BER Heavy? I'm on Gorath, but how much on the other servers too?

On second thought- don't mind me. If I had read down a few threads, I would have found the answer! Sorry bout that...
