Thread: Why do we have Medium and Large houses?

As far as I'm concerned the only reason to have a large house is to show you can afford one. As the old saying goes, if you got it, flaunt it.

Having said that, I use a Large house as my place of buisness/workshop. I don't think my shop would be nearly as impressive in a Medium Tattooine house.

I use a Medium house as my own personal "living space" and a variety of factories as storage. (But in all fairness, I *try* to store items in that factory that I'll need to use *in* that factory...though I'm not 100% successful in this (As the crates of accarragm in my equipment factory will testify to.

Well, I finally put up a medium - it's still empty but it's nice and it has a nice balcony which I hope thatI might be able toshoot something from itsomeday. I'm still not convince I'm going to keep. It's costing me2 (more) lots which I could make better use by placing another Structure factory or 2 harvestes...boy....that's a difficult decision.

Now that I have one - I don't know what to do with it. Do I do what I did before with my houses ? Have it full of resources, crates and things. Or, cut back a little and put up a few Travel Packs to orderly put them away and maybe even make myself furniture for a change. Hmmm

Now, had they had totally different maintenance, number of items and lots, I think it would make more sense.

There most certainly is a limit in the city hall. I suspect it is 250. I dont know for certain though. I hit it while decorating my city hall for a wedding. I already had a nice library set up and had to be conscious of what I was placing for the wedding.

I rather like the idea of providing Archs with a build that is a ware house with an initial storage of 150 items (ie 2 lots) and the ability to add storage by building additions to the warehouse in one lot increments with each addition adding another 150 item storage and costing as much to build as the original warehouse. The additions wouldnt actually show up on the schematic but would just increase the storage space to a maximum of 1200 items for all 10 lots.

havn'et read the entire thread yet, so this might already be answered, but a city hall DOES have an item limit... I just don't remember what it was. I know we hit it when we were moving from the player city we were inhabiting to our very own PC.

Not to be an anarchist or anything, but have Architects considered a "no make" protest/strike? Get all of the architects to stop making ANY kind of house/furniture until the devs listen?

I realize that the first reaction from someone to my suggestion would be to mention that some would ignore the strike and make stuff anyways. While in real-life I would tend to agree, in SWG, its seems like (to me) that 100% of architects think the storage cap is silly/unreasonable/stupid/etc. So you'd have a good chance of getting every architect to honor the strike. Maybe ask fellow Artisans to stop making vehicles, etc., too.

Bottom line, the number of lots a house has should directly relate to its storage capacity, not some artificial cap. Or at the very least, raise the cap so that it makes sense to buy a large house, vs. a small/medium. By now SOE can afford to buy more database/storage servers, so they can raise/remove the caps.

Realistically, we are probably lucky if 10% of the architects even *read* this forum, much less get on board for any sort of "strike". So calling for a strike would basically amount to any architect who reads the forums and contributes by participating here just shutdown their business forever. That may happen anyway through attrition, but would be hastened by any sort of "strike".

We have avenues to tell the developers what we want. We have used those avenues. We haven't gotten *any* indication that they have even heard us at all, much less take some action based on what they heard. With the Jedi revamp, the combat revamp, and the space expansion, I don't expect we'll see any movement on architect issues till after Christmas at the earliest.

yes its all very annoying and makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

75 items per lot? thats ok for me, but for every single lot dammit. its so rediculous to limit it at 250, since we can simply set small houses and factorires to get out items per lot, so where is the point in limiting it at large homes and PA Halls?

lot is lot. period!

well and when we at it:

revamp the darn correlia homes, they suck so badly compared to naboo and tatooines. no basement, no balkony and just 1 more room then smalls?

plus i would suggest to let mediums cost 3 lots then and sure give then 3x75 items, so that there is a real difference between smal and mediums (well as said on naboo and tat homes, there is atleast a huge opical difference which is totally missing on correlia ones )

the correlia houses and item per lot issue is for me one of the No1 issues for this profession and the whole game.

Just to clear up a couple of things, a city hall has 150 storage and a PA hall has 250. I have nowhere to put stuff, but properly decorated by myself (master architect) it looks lovely. I often get complimented on my decoration, which is nice, but it's really not worth it when we consider that I have no where to put anything and no lots for factories or storage houses.

Initially noone was supposed to have more than one house. Being limited to a singlestructure (in concept NOT implementation ,obviously) would have made all the difference.

Tents, naboo round houses = 1 lot @ 75 storage

Small / Medium houses = 2 lots @ 150

Large houses = 6 lots @ 250 storage

PA halls = between 7 (tatooine) to 9 Lots (unless they finally fixed that) @ 250 storage.

should have always been:

ONE HOUSE PER ACCOUNT PER CHARACTER

Tents= 1 Lot @ 75

Smalls (including round house)= 2 lots @ 150

Mediums=4 lots @ 200 (if i were fixing it this would be the compromise)

Large = 6 lots @ 250

PA halls = 8 lots @ 300

City Halls = 0 lots (but cost alot more maintance in upkeep) 350

ONLY merchants were supposed to own more than one housing structure..just as The now missing Industrialist was supposed to have more than one factory. they screwed with 3 professions very early on (last being miner) and changed their initial concept but half way. Now they complain about database issues...as if it were OUR fault for storing so much stuff.

/sigh

Why don't the devs code a new building called a wharehouse? It would have 1000 storage. It would be one room and you could have optional shelves. I would get one, so my house isn't cluttered with unlocked containers and satchels.

The warehouse idea has been suggested in the Architect boards many times.

Our idea for it would be a structure similar in appearance to the Structure Factory without an entrance. You can click on it from the outside (and if you have admin permission) you open up the warehouse in an inventory window similar to what you get with your own inventory and backpacks and the like.

If it's only going to be used for storage, why bother having an internal structure?

Well Why do crafters scream over storage space? BEFORE you flame me to a crisp let me tell my reasoning... I have an architect and so far my structural factory will hold enought items for me to amke about 20 harvesters easy... It think it's good. If I start to have storage probs I'll just sell components in my vendor, price them at a value I'm happy with, not 9999999999, and if they sell great! Another possibility for business. As to resources, well a house holds 150*100K of resouces that is 15mil resources I'd say it's a good limit as well and everything else gets stored in 10, 15 or 25 crates... so good there... I'd say ppl get carried away and let their business grow out of all proportions... Get a grip, get partners... remenber whatever the amount of space you get it will always be insufficient, and you know that is true. Who do I think should complaint about space? Collectors / ppl who ike to have cool stuff...

The above mentiones house holding 15miil resources will carry

1 Compo Armor ( 9 ) + 1 Bone armor (9) + 1 Chitin Armor (9) + 1 Padded armor (10) + 1 Tantel ( 5?) + 1 Mabari (7?) + 1 Ubese (9 )

This is around 58 items or 5,8mil of resources or 25*58 of stock.

Collectors are completly dead... there is so much stuff on the game and even if you get it all where to put it?

So I agree with you on the space issue but not for crafter needs... for regular collector, I liek to have a nice house and have my stuff there ppl...
