Master Commando/Master Carbineer is actually my template on StarSider, and it works pretty good. I'm thinking of switching my main toon on Valcyn from Master Commando/MBH to Master Commando/Master Carbineer because I like the template so good.
And if you just started the game today, I hate to tell you this, but you may want to browse these commando boards a bit more thoroughly before you decide you want to be one of us. We are an extremely broken profession right now, and there's no end in sight. We'll always welcome another commando to the fold, but if you're thinking that the commando profession kicks ass...well, we don't.
We blame SOE for being morons and not knowing what it means to be a commando.
If you're looking for a profession that can kick ass, your best bet is a template built aroundrifleman, bounty hunter, or carbineer.
Hope you decide to stick it out with us, though; we could use some new blood around here. ![]()
Now, if I could just dump my RL and concentrate on getting online more!

haha to be honest i just like the title "commando" not really somthing that will kick ass, iam gonna stick with the commando just becuase ive been quite excited about being one for the pass little bit, day 2, level 7 and theres no turning back now! mwahha

Well, let's see...
1) Commando has no state recoveries for things like Blind, Dizzy, and Stun.
2) The idiots trying to grind Jedi have inspired the devs to nerf our grenades; they now do less damage, and have timers on them.
3) The area effect of grenades is...screwed. I have tossed a grenade at a lair 30 meters in front of me, and had the blast aggro a mob 75 meters behind me.
4) Virtually all our weapons are AoE (area of effect, meaning it works in a cone and hits multiple targets), and last time I checked, our AoE damage sucked (1 pt. of damage?). Our weapons tend to piss off everything in the immediate area without doing any real damage to them. As such, it's gotten to the point where commandos are frequently turned away from Death Watch raids and the like.
5) The fabled Combat Upgrade was supposed to give us a damage rating of 5. We are, at best, a 3. The devs know this, and don't seem to care.
6) We spent the past couple of years begging for an assault rifle of some sort, and when the devs finally gave us one...it's a rare and random loot drop off a CL 92 bad guy. I've heard some people say the drop rate is 1 in 10, and others say it's more like 1 in 30, and others still say it's even higher. Add to that, the weapon did not work for about..2 months, I think? The devs put it at the very bottom of their list o' things to fix.
7) There are pistols that do more damage than our rocket launcher. Hell, a TKA with a good vibroknuckler can probably outdamage our rocket launcher.
8) We have no specials. None. Period. The devs removed them and built them into our weapons, which really doesn't seem to be a well-though-out idea to me.
9) We don't seem to have any hope of a real revamp to fix us. That kind of dev love is reserved for BH and Jedi.
10) The disturbing part is that this list could probably keep going for a while, but it's nearly 2:30 am here, so my brain is starting to shut down on me.
We are, by no means, the only broken profession in the game. Rangers, smugglers, and squad leaders are 3 other professions that need a real revamp. I just feel that any and all newcomers to commando should be forewarned that they face a very long and difficult path ahead of them.
This profession is very fun, I admit. I love setting stuff on fire, even if the damage isn't exactly what I feel it should be. The trouble is that the devs have no concept of what a commando should be, despite the fact that we have made various threads suggesting what should be done to this profession in a revamp.
Be advised that as a commando, you will be ignored by the devs, mocked by other players who are members of a profession that actually works (or works better than we do, at any rate), and that many groups will probably turn you away because of how commando weapons do AoE.
And a template is the overall setup of your character, where you put your skill points. My commando on StarSider, for example, my exact template there is...

Master Carbineer
Bounty Hunter 1300
Note: If I've missed anything, I invite other vets to please speak up and tell us. Same if my AoE information is wrong; I haven't really had time to check it since the last couple of patches.

I think they fixed grenades, and my favorite part punched FS grinders in the face with 30:1 combat xp conversion. No more "grenadiers"!
