Thread: Urban Planner?
I am pretty sure that it will use 60+ skill points to become master urban planner, as well as there will be no raise in skill points. And I think that this is a good solution.
Come on, this is a elite-ELITE profession. So if you think SWG is no fun without fighting, then there is no way for a master architect to become a master urban planner. I dont have a prob with doing my harv run, and staring at my radar waiting for that little red dots to come up, and circum navigate them. This game is so close to real life, I cant imagine that there a ot of people out there, in rl, who are good buisnessman, fighters (martial arts and weapon combat), weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, architects and entertainers all in one.I think the skill system in SWG gives us a lot of possibilities to become what ever we want. If you cant handle a pure crafter then dont become one.
I am a master architect, made it all the way up myself no PA help, no second account. I have a lot of fun being a pure crafter, and I survive I dont have a lot of money, but it is enough to survive. And, most important, I made a lot of friends. That is all fun I need, although I have to say that some things are not very crafter friendly in SWG, or dont make a lot of sense (like the 250 item cap on PA Halls).
So lets sum it up:
I am sure that urban planer will be a 18 skill tree (16 skills plus novice and master), and it will use 60+ skill points to become master, so leaving no or just a few skill points.

That has to be one of the funniest things I've read in a while. Thanks!!!!!! I needed a laugh today!
This is what I see when they thought up the urban planner.
Dev 1: **edit** architects are getting smashed in the current economy, what the hell went wrong?
Dev 2: Well I think we screwed them when we didn't make experimentation mean anything.
Dev 1: Yeah don't forget that their stuff doesn't degrade.
Dev 2: How could I forget that. Well what are we going to do?
Dev 1: Hmm... Must think about this one.
Dev 2: How about we add an elite, elite profession. That way it chokes supply down.
Dev 1: That's brilliant! Instead of fixing the obvious problems lets compound them by adding a whole new profession on top of a broken one. I like your thinking.
And so the first elite-elite profession is born...
Urban Planner sounds great on paper...err screen
... but I'm betting most people will give it up quick. How many parks will a player city really have?...think about spacing.Heck as far as spacing goes, itshard enough to find a large enough space to build a large house much less astarport. Now having the ability to raze areas and make clearings for new structures would be GREAT.
You can also bet that ALL player cities will have their own Master Architect on the "City Council" who will be making these Urban Planner goodies for them, so you can forget about outside/freelance work.
I like the comparison to RL that someone made. I mean when I go to the grocery store I have to run from the wild dogs trying to kill me on my way to the car. Then on the road I have to look out for Maulers trying to slay me by driving me off the 405 freeway. Then when I get to work I'm attacked by Crazed birds who thought it was cute that I got within 64m of their nest.
YES, being an architect is like real life!
I can only imagine the guy that uses all his skill points to master architect, artisan, and urban planner. "Um, scuze me mr scout, butcould you and your bounty hunter please escort me to my harvesters because I cant even kill a Dwarf Nuna with a CDEF Rifle. Oh and could you please walk, cause even when I burst run you still walk faster than I do up those pesky hills"
Yes, being confined to cities does sound appealing.
I know many ppl will say, well then don't become an urban planner, but what about those who like the idea of leaving a city once in awhile to enjoy the wildlife and not have to clone?
just some thought, I haven't slept in almost 24 hours so there is prolly some acid in my words.

will u have to be a master aechitect to be a Urban Planner?
Well I for one hate the idea of an elite-elite prof.
But by the same token, putting CIty structures anywhere except under the Master cert removes the specialness of the buildings.
If anyone less than a Master Architect canbuild them, then why am a Master Architect?
A City Hall has got to be a **edit** sight harder to build than a simple PA Hall.
This is how it stands right now as I have read from the official posts. In the development center it states clearly in the discussion of the new Urban Planner that Master Architect is a requirement of the class. This is meant to be an elite-elite class. Personally I think that having to invest an entire class of skills for something that could be integrated into the existing architect class is a horrible idea. We have an entire line of skills that have no function yet. Yes, I understand that experimentation will be put into effect for harvesters and possibly other items as well. This should still be replaced by urban planner skills. This would be about on par to having weaponsmiths having to take a second class to make heavy weapons. I hope this is something they reconsider.

"Dariuas - *[TMPST]Werzoth* Does the buildings for the city (cantina, hospital, player garage, theater, parks, fountains, etc.) take any lots? Maintenance? Could you explain how the process works with the interaction of politician and urban planner and placing those inside the city?
GreenMarine - I'll take this one.
GreenMarine - Structures owned by the city like cloning facilities and shuttleports don't take up lots. Cantinas and hospitals are owned by players and do take up lots.
GreenMarine - For city structures, maintenance is paid by the city as a lump sum.
GreenMarine - Cities can charge various taxes to help pay for the maintenance.
GreenMarine - Initially, politician will be focused on running the city. They gain various abilities to enhance the city, etc.
GreenMarine - Urban Planner...I'm still not sure how this profession will happen. It may be that we go with putting the new schematics into architect instead. It's still being discussed.
GreenMarine - done"

From the chat session at stratics
Q's recent post says the player city structures will be in the Architect tree and not a new profession.
Q-3PO wrote: I notice that it says there is only one new profession, Politician. Does this mean you are putting all the Player City Buildings under Architect?
Skedoozy, that’s the current plan.

That was during the live chat they held, we had to PM our questions.
Scrapping the urban planner = bad =(
