Thread: Warning: Bags on Vendors emptied
But I stand by it being a perfectly valid way to sell "sets" of something. It does not matter what the customer can and can't see, provided you have a customer base and they trust you.
For instance, suppose I'm a uniform supplier for BKB (I'm not...but suppose I am)...I would always have complete uniforms for their members on my vendor in the colors they chose. They would not have to pre-order--I would simply name the backpack "BKB uniform" so that the members would know which item to choose.
Or perhaps I'm a BE wanting to sell Chef components. I can't use a factory..so if i want to sell them in bulk, a backpack is the ideal solution.
There are countless VALID reasons to sell items within backpacks...
My wife, as a Master Tailor, sells things in bags all the time. She labels some 'grab bags', and sometimes they have far more value in them than their price, and sometimes they're booby-prizes. Most times, the bags arejust color-coordinated sets of clothes, which are plainly labelled. Sure, there is a bit of trust involved, but what crafter would be willing to potentially have their name spread all over the server as a cheat, just to make a couple grand?
Also, she places bags of orders on her vendors, labelled something like "Jimbo's Order". This does nothing but makes it more convenient for customers (plus they get a free bag out of the deal).
So, I have to say that there are many genuine ways to use bags on vendors, that aren't just for 'storage exploiting'.

Well it doesn't really matter now since he tested and it's working o'kay now...
Well, I said it is working right now. You can put a bag in the vendor with items, retreive it and the items are still there. However, beware of doing so because the items may or may not be there the next time you retrieve it - especially after a server reset / "database maintenance" ie- arbitrary deletion.
The fact still remains that I lost over 1/2 my stock of resources without any kind of warning.
I just tried out selling a bag to my vendor with items in it. Everything went fine. Sold the bag with 5 aluminum in it, retreived it, Aluminum still there.
I'm betting during the patch they hit some button or entered a line of code to clear all bags in vendors to "clean up their database"
If nothing else, take this as a warning. Sell bags with items in it at your own risk. They may be arbitrarily and randomly emptied without warning.
This happened to me today, and it hit me HARD. I had an order for someone that included the following:
2 Heavy Floras
2 Heavy Chems
1 Heavy Gas
1 Heavy Water
1 Fusion Power Gen
I put them in a backpack last night, and slapped them on my vendor with "<insert name>'s Stuff" as the name.
I log on today, and he would rather meet up with me to get the items. So, I retrieved them from my vendor and low and behold, the backpack is empty!
760k worth of stuff down the drain. I had to remake the ENTIRE order today, and I had JUST enough resources to do so. Luckily I didn't crit fail on any of them. You can imagine, I was quite peeved...
Well, since I have yet to see another thread indicating this happening to anyone else, or even another person posting here with the same problem, i'm guessing you got hit with a bug. Odds are it will correct itself tomorrow. No guarantees of course and submitting a new ticket after they have cleared them, may or may not help.
I feel for the loss of everything, but at the same time, you were using something in a way it wasn't designed to be used and this is when most problems occur.
I may have stumbled on a possible fix for this bug.
Lastnight before the reset, I left one of the empty bags that the items disappeared out of sitting in my house. When I logged on this morning, all the missing items were back. However, the bags that were in my inventory and a couple still in my vendor were still empty.
So, I left all the bags that had items disappear from them sitting in my house tonight, hopefully they will be full tomorrow after the reset. I'll post an update to let you know for sure.
It seems that if you leave an item in the stockroom(or available for pickup in the bazaar) for too long(a few days perhaps... didn't time it), they will purge it from the database. I lost a good bit of resources this way, by having them in my vendors stockroom. I didn't get empty bags... the bags were just plain gone from the stockroom.
This issue is so wrong on many levels... I submitted my ingame ticket... but no word yet. (Betcha they delete this one too)
So just a warning to you folks out there... pull out your stockroom bags once in a while.

Well, I'm very happy, That worked! I left all the empty bags laying on the floor in my house before the reset lastnight. When I logged on today everything missing from the bags was back in them.
Hope this helps anyone who may have had the same problem.
