Thread: Pricing, undercutting and all that bull.
What some need to realize is that the price folks say they are willing to pay and the price they really are willing to pay are two very different things.
When I First started on the road to master architect I set my prices for small houses at 12.5k at the advice of another architect and after reading varying price lists on this and other boards. I've stuck to that price I never attempted to enter into the small housing price wars. Every day running through town I hear cries from architects or resellers offering the same small houses that I sell for 6-8k, and 9 times out of 10 when I recieve a tell asking for my price on a small house and I reply 12.5k I get laughed at or told I'm cheating them. I explain that I'm sure they could purchase a house for less if they look around but 12.5k is the price I sell for. But if I stock (and I do) several small houses on my vendor at my price I sell out. I haven't had to relist a small Naboo or a small Generic house that didn't sell within the 1 week auction period for vendors yet, and I always keep several of each on my vendor. I experience the same general effect with each item type that we can make, there are exceptions of course, moisture harvesters of all sizes tend to have to be relisted as do medium flora, gas and chem (I keep them stocked just in case someone needs them). The customer always wants a lower price, its up to the architect to decide the fair price not the customer.
Prices have always been a touchy subject. Nothing like the architect profession - there is always another architect underselling. Undercutters undercutting other undercutters is sadly amusing.
I am keeping my master arch skill, but I am moving on to concentrate on my other profession...weapons. I will make a structure here and there when the mood strikes and when I have an excess of materials. Resource selling is starting to get my attention more and more.
Now with the ability to make higher extraction rate harvesters, the prices have dropped to the old levels. More materials...more equipment....cheaper structures. I honestly believe this profession 'hurts' itself the most.
I have made some good money with the higher extraction harvesters...I was intently upgrading my old fleet when a customer wanted three ext. rate 10 heavies. I explained that these were tagged for my fleet, but he was willing to pay massive credits for them NOW. I gladly sold them! Now the market is beginning to flood with the better heavies......and the prices do notreflect anything different than the old pre-patch 7 heavies (same prices). Oh, well. The profession stays consistent!
I will be curious to note what will happen after the player city patch. Many architects were staying until the city patch came through then moving on. All the hoarded resources will apppear in resource sales or structures. Will the prices be driven down more?

If it costs you 8k to make a house you are doing something wrong
careful with that type of statement there Dayln..... not every architect chooses to do their own harvesting.... at 3300 resources for a small house thats only what? 2.25 cpu for materials? not really a terrible price to pay.
If you're getting that much for your products, then stop your complaining. Why don't you try being an architect on Radiant where no one wants to pay more than 8k for a small house when it COSTS 10k to make one? The economy is so screwed up there it's not even funny. Be GLAD you get the money you do out of your heavies and guild halls. I'm lucky if I can sell mine at cost.
