Thread: Architect Rare Furniture Set Registration

Are you proposing that we just give items unique names and then make limited runs of them?
Why would people want to buy them? Serious question. For a "limited edition" to work, there would have to be demand for the unique items. What would drive that demand? Is there a collector market? Or do you think it would be a status symbol to own the "Grand Deluxe Armoire" that is limited and expensive?
If the idea is to go to the forums and advertise the limited edition run of the new "Elegant Excellence" line of King size beds and then make 5 Large beds with the name "Elegant Excellence", what would cause people to think thats better than any other large bed?

Let's make sure that we're clear here - I absolute DO participate in the economy on three different servers in three different ways. The need to participate doesn't demand that I take part in every aspect of every scheme that comes along. We've had lots of ideas flow through this board - none of us are honor-bound to sign up for every one that comes through here. This idea will succeed or fail on it's own merits and on your ability to "sell" the concept.
If *YOU* want to create a "collectibles" marketplace, then you do so. Those artisans that like the idea will particpate. Those customers that like the idea will participate. Either you will reach critical mass - or you won't. Not one person here is saying "I will hinder you in your pursuit."
Jesus Christ...that was a little on the defensive side.
That may have sounded defensive...
Howerever you have made itfairly obvious (IMO) that if someone does not agree with your economic plan, you will think they are an idiot.
It will work if more people participate...trust me...I'm an economist ![]()
In my experience, anyone that says 'trust me' needs to be shot.
To be perfectly honest, anyone who has apparently (based on your post count) never participated in the forums, has to have a massive ego to walk in and put up a brand new (never before even hinted at, to my knowledge) idea and ask for it to be sticky'd.
I could be wrong and do not want to discourage you from speaking your mind. This idea is interesting, but in the unregulated and very diverse econimic communities(servers) of SWG, I feel it would be impossible to impliment.
Keep the ideas comming....

Those who wish to participate do participate and the majority who do not want to do not, however the critical mass needed for the idea to work is never reached, thus the idea fails.
At least participate in some way. It can't hurt you to at least try.
One of the problems with the on-line environment is that we only see the words - we have to make up the body language, tone of voice, etc that go along with them that in a physical world would communicate much more to us.
Without having any experience with you prior to this, and after the "trust me - I'm an economist" comment (which, as someone else points out, quite often generates exactly the opposite reaction), I read this as "No one recognizes the brilliance of my idea and now the fact that it doesn't take off will be due to the apathetic people like you who are unwilling to participate."
Perhaps you didn't mean it that way, but obviously a few people *received* it that way.
Again, you need to sell the idea on its merits, and you need to be willing to do the bulk of the initial work to get this going. Coming in and proclaiming that your idea should be instantly instituionalized via a stickie thread before you've gotten peer review seems a bit ... "not humble". Pointing out that your audience is apathetic or incapable of appreciating your idea because they don't share your professional background is NOT a recipe for success - either in the virtual world or the physical one.
A suggestion - look at the stickied threads that we have, and browse through the first few pages here to see threads with a high number of replies and read them - for better or worse, the themes that you see in those threads are obviously ones that draw the attention of the architect community.
