Hehehe you think moving 10-30 harvs is bad.. Try moving 130. Notifying 6-10 people and tell them its time to move their harvs.. =P Many of the harvs are atleast 2000m out =P But you know what I love that part of the game, because only the strongest and most motivated players get the upper hand. Real life isn't fair, this game isn't fair. Live with it. I know of 1 master arch who plays 3-5 hours a day and maybe most of the weekend. How did he become a Master Arch? He had a group of friends helping him out. The made this game to incourage interaction. Give it a try before you call it quits.. Get some alliances going.

Boy, do I feel lucky on Radiant! We've only had ONE resource shift since launch. It ocurred three weeks into the game, and we're coming up on another three weeks since then.

I've heard this is a bug on the Radiant server. Now THAT'S a bug I can live with!

if you think that it is a pain in the ass right now think of this, in fact we are already seeing the start of what I explain below.

given 3 resources that have the samelife-length(for simplicty sack, actual resouces life-lengthchanges every shift)

A(and its replacement)last(duration) 5 days

B last 7days

C last 8 days

you would have A shifting on day 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, etc

you have B shifting on day 7,14,21, 28, 35,etc

you have C shfiting on day 8,16,24, 32, 40, etc

as you can see A's 3rd cycles is merely C's 2nd cycle

so with just 3 resources over 40 days you are shifting harvestrs on day

5, 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 16, 20, 21, 24, 25, 28, 30, 32, 35, 40.... that's pretty much moving some harvesters every other day

add in the different life-length for each resouces eachcyclesfactor I mentioned above and even more resources.... the end result over long peroid of time is you have

resourches shfting and harvesters movingDAILY!

so instead of just survying/re-deed/re-dropping harvester once a week

in the long term you will have to do it EVERYDAY if you mine multiple resoruces(sayOre, steel, copper, alum, chem, gas for examples)

you would also have to login daily just to keep track of the changes to see which is a NEW resources and which is an OLD resources to prevent dropping harvester on old resources that go poof soon

Actually a casual player can be a crafter, they just have to operate from a different perspective. Running harvesters is pretty time intensive to do well. You really have to be monitoring resources and your units regularly. On the other hand there is nothing to prevent a casual player from buying their resources rather than harvesting their own. To play an architect and harvest all your resources is just not a casual endeavor. You can do it, but you will never be able to compete with folks who play more or have a huge PA behind them.

First off, your guy's resources are shifting? I think Lowca's are stuck again, haven't shifted in 2 weeks'ish.

Secondly, its ALWAYS more cost effective to move Heavy harvesters...sure ya gotta whip out the checkbook to move 8 heavy harvesters (36,000 credits), but sitting on 90% spots yield 9000 resources a day per heavy...72k a day, can easily sell for 216k a day which WAY OVERCOVER a small redeed cost. No WAY I'm gonna sit on a 55% and throw money away (well unless its LG ore heh.)

I can't put into words how much I hate shifting/disappearing resources. I particularly despise the disappearing resources. I mean, when was the last time the Earth ran out of iron? Yes, yes, I know, it's a game, but still. That's simply silly. I wouldn't mind flying to Naboo for a certain kind of Copper, but I'd like to know that I can get that Copper somewhere on Naboo.

My suggestion would be:

1) Get rid of the disappearing resources.
2) Lengthen the timing on the shifting. 2/3 weeks per shift.
3) Notify those with harvesters when a shift happens.
4) Get rid of maintenance when a harvester shuts down.
5) Lower the redeeding fee.

Just my opinion.

I wish they'd gone with the system they had in beta, where resources had planet-based amounts rather than galaxy based amounts. Back in beta, if you mined all of a resource for one planet, it would still exist on another planet. Thus, setting up mining operations on the remote worlds was a great balance of risk vs. reward. The risk of getting killed trying to get to your harvesters vs. the reward of knowing your resource spots were going to be around for a while. To me, that's the way it should be. So yeah, resource shifts on Tatooine and Naboo should be happening every week or so, but for the few brave ones (and rich ones who can afford the 4-7k travelexpenses every time they want to check their harvesters) who want to set up mines on the dangerous remote worlds, the reward should be stability, from longer lasting resources (and maybe higher quality ones as well).

Actually, the system of resource shifting works pretty well, and answers alot of problems that would be present without the resource shifting.

The most obvious of problems of removingresource shifting would beall theoptimal spots to harvest resources would be taken. Leaving mostpeople with no chance of getting at a high density spot.

The system we had in beta was awful. We would deplete a resource from a planet in 24-48 hours. Even after they made the planetary pools 10 times bigger.. heh.

That's why they went time based. I think the time in most cases is too short.. 5 to 8 days should probably be 10-15 days. But I'm not having that big a problem with the current system, since I work with many during the shifts to survey new spots faster.

No, you have a variety of options. The casual crafter just can't craft completely on their own, you have to rely on others too, which is what interdependence is all about. Options:

Find yourself a business partner.

Make friends with someone who likes to play miner and buy your resources from them.Go in together on some larger harvesters and share the duties of maintaining them.

Form a loose guild of crafters with rotating duties.

Watch the "real-time resources" pages on SWG Resource Center, and become an active contributor to help other in your shoes track resources.

----

Crafting in SWG is not a solo profession, and it's not as easy as just running around shooting at stuff. But an MMO has no pause button, just like real life. You can't run a business in the real world if customers can't count on when you're going to be open ("sorry, Bob's Coffee Shop is only open every other day, except when I have something else I want to do").

Yes, SWG isn't supposed to be a job. But it is real-time, which means to be a businessman in-game you have to make a certain level of commitment, or you have to make friends with people who can help out.

Letme second a prior posters comment. just don't move them. I have around 40 running, and may hit 60 tonight, and when the resource gets depleted...I just change to another resource.

I'm grabbing some uber steel that just happens to be in my spot. ranges from 50-65%. But when it runs out theres a 75% copper I;ll hit.

Some of mine are water and those I may have to moveon occasion because there isn't a large variety.

its not the most horribly efficeint, but on the other hand I grabbed 40K of this steel last night.
