Thread: For you Crash and Burn Undercutting Architects
BINGO - couldn't have said it better.
TIME is your only 'COST' here. If you don't like him selling PA halls at 300k, then hand-sample ALL your resources, and sell them for 250k. That is 250K pure profit, no matter how many critical failures you have since a failure only means more TIME gathering the resources again
As I see it , the idea is to be a success, and to do this credits are only important to pay your costs.
When pricing something I start at base 0 and then decide that if I sell at that I am going to go under quick , so I raise the price untill my profit covers my costs + a small profit just for the hell of it.
This means that I am certain to be an architect tomorrow and the foreseeable future.
Yes, its true that in general demand will fall, but there is always going to be a steady influx of new players and new chars that will want deeds, and naturally these are the customers that do not have many K to spend - and they are also MY future customers, and the people that I think of when I price my deeds in this very early state of the economy.
And I am also aware that Architects will in time , like droid engineers be enhanced and fixed.
BinnJaMeen - you asked what we are to do as a profession. Well we will make deeds, and if that sounds oversimplified then its because it is a simple answer. How you sell them and what you charge is up to you, I only have a grievance with people telling me my buisness. If the people who are dissatified with what others are doing really believed that others wont survive as Architects, then they would be laughing not crying.

I completely agree with the concept of what you charge is your own business, but we have no standard of pricing that makes it easily known to all what market value really is. I can't stand for some snot nosed kid that has never been through the hassle of constructing a house to yell out for all to hear that I am ripping people off at my price and that the famous unknown architect was just here selling for half my price. We can't compete with that. As long as one person accepts that the super low price is the going standard then for us that really want customers and not be branded as scammers have to sell low or get out of the business. I will never go around and try to outbid another architect out of common curtesy.
I accepted the change from 15k to 10k as the standard going rate for small houses, but then out of nowhere some PA guy starts practically giving them away for 8k and then 6.5k. This is fine and dandy, but it completely screws over the rest of the struggling architects. If you want to sell low, fine go for it, but do you have to make it public? Want to sell low, get a vendor and sell as low as you want there. Matter of fact if all you care about is the xp, start selling all size houses on the Bazaar. But I know you are not going to do that, why? Because you want to make money too. This talk about pricing to cover your costs lasts for a short time in the long run due to that you never really break even this way. In real life do you take a job only making enough to pay the rent and the necessary bills? No you get a job that can support your other interests. Why is this concept so hard to grasp in SWG economy?
Hey Alimok, sell your PA Halls for

Secondly, I must obviously fit into group #3 since I'm not a disgruntled customer and I'm a master so I don't need the XP anymore. I am so frustrated with myself for not being able to understand both the how and why I need to change my style of play to better fit in with a group of people that have no effect on me whatsoever.
However, see above, I'm going to try so everyone will be happy and find something else to gripe about on the boards.
I say don't worry about them. If reading the posts here bothers you stop reading, but if your business model calls for lowballing on the prices then stick to your guns. No way am I lowballing just because folks complain or cry, so I don't think you should raise your prices for those reasons either.
Besides, if folks like you leave the game where will I send all the cheap whining customers unwilling to pay what my products are worth? Heck I may even subsidize your low rates so you can continue to provide me this valuable service, its not the wafer thin profit margins I mind so much as the whining anyway. I can build two houses and a factory in the time wasted dealing with just one silly customer who has a brother who has a freind who knows a guy on Tat that bought a large house for 25 units of copper and an empty unlocked container and if I don't lower my price to that then I'm just a theif.
Dont go Shane!

Well i re-read my post and man am I angry at the whole dupe thing. I don't mind competition but when I hear about hvy harvester selling for 25k I have to ask myself what in the heck is going on, either someone is lying or something crazy is going on.
My whole point on pricing is this, why on earth would you sell for less that the actual resources are worth, and don't give me the blarkey about time and hand sampling. Normal harvester fees put resource cost at 1.1-1.5 per res. So I think well its people who are trying to get xp (but why would they do this with hvy harvesters and factory goods?)
Then I read about this new dupe bug and see some screenshots and now allof a sudden the thread about it in discussion is closed (was at 160 some posts when they closed it).
Just alot of weird stuff going on in SWG right now and all i really want to do is enjoy my game.
Based upon some of the ridiculous prices we have seen on some servers, we now know some people who were...
1) Exploiters themselves.
or
2) Friends fo Exploiters and knowingly getting rich off the exploits knowing it was wrong, though they didn't actually do the act themselves. This might include people who bought millions of resource from others for 1 credit each without thinking "HEY, WHAT GIVES HERE?"
or
3) People who were fooled by slick salesmen selling resources in large amounts for 2 credits each and that kind of thing. Now that I think of it, I may even be in this category. For last few weeks I periodically found a long-since-gone resource which was very high quality on the FLurry server for sale at2.5 credits each on the bazaar. Every few days a few more thousand of such minerals would show up again.... I kept wondering who was selling such high quality resources at such low prices so long after they disappeared from Flurry... But I kept buying them at2.5 credits each, and sometimes putting them right back up for sale at 5 credits each on bazaar, and making myself a little profit.
How do we know who might have been cheating or getting nice deals from cheaters? We can only tell by their claims of wealth and low selling prices.
Chocobacca Corellia/Flurry.
I happen to sell structuresat 3.5 cr per resource used, plus maybe a little more for bufferage against crit failures on the big stuff (like PA Halls). This pricing seems to be a happy medium on the Chilastra server, planet Tatooine. I mine all my own resources (I have25 harvesters and 5 solar energy harvesters, using two accounts and friends' lots). I've made a million credits. I provided our Guild's Hall for free.
So at this pricing, non-generic guild halls are 225k, generic are 260k. I don't see that as too low or too high.
A million credits... what am I gonna do with all that money? Why do I need to charge more if I don't even know what to do with what I've made? As a a matter of fact, I've been passing out credits tomy guild members. At least someone is getting a use out of the credits ![]()

omg has it come to that - now to justify your prices you start insinuating that people here must be cheating ?
As someone that sells his stuff at a price that cant be beaten, I must be the primary suspect.
Pathetic.
I wouldnt mind betting that my prices are lower than any duper, their sort will squeeze every drop from an opportunity and would certainly charge a price much closer to yours.
Here's the deal, XP was never a factor when leveling to master. I sold all of my products on the way to master and did so at a fair profit. I have been master for a few weeks now and have made a couple of choices. First is I have my harvesters out and grinding away with plenty of credits to keep them running for a good long time. I am stock piling some of the best resources I can find. If I get someone that wants a stucture, I shoot them a fair calculated price of what my time and resources are worth. Either they go away and find another seller, or I get the order. Those that give me the order get top notch service, and delivery whenever possible. I make a comfortable profit, and fill my orders instantly, and have plenty of time to explore and do other things to enjoy myself with in-game. Second, if my prices are out of line, and I dont believe they are, thenI will continue to stock pile resources, as they will never decay and always retain their value. When player cities come available to us, I will be able to handle any order thrown at me and there will be no wait time other than construction time. If there are those out there that want to continue to flood a market with cheap prices and work your a***** off for a few credits and constantly struggle for resources, then I say more power too you. In RL I manage a very profitable store, I hold my prices and we cator to those that appreciate our services and product, sure i may not be as busy as XYZ store across town, but then again, I dont have half the grief he has, and I make a confortable profit, same principles work here, even if it is a game. I am very certain of one thing though, my last breath before I die will not be "I wish I had worked harder".
I don't know how people can come here and say there in dire need of work . I sell My PA HALLS for 6-7 credits and have to TURN PEOPLE AWAY...Large homes for 140-160 k .. Most of the time I flip my flag off , because im booked even with what I price for days on end ...
I talk to my custmoer wish them well when they decide to move on to someone else , and that seems to be enough to get them to come back later on and buy from me anyway's.
I train for free , because later professions would dictate me needing those points later on . When I made my guilds hall it was a sense of accomplishment , I did what I wanted to do .
Just over 1 million credits , been master for alittle over a week . but I work 60 hrs in r/l and haven't had the time to make more . If I did Im sure 4 million wouldnt be a problem ..
Let these guys sell for what they want . One or Two criticaly failures on deeds with orders backed up will teach them . I never talk bad about what you do , I surely don't pay for you to play . I treat all Architect s with respect , because I know no matter what some customers can really have nasty attitudes . I take orders in incrimental bites . I dont want to play this game to continue grinding away at structures . When the right offer comes along I take my stockpile of resources and make them what they need ...
Its simple live and learn and play the game the way you want
