Thread: My plea to the devs about resources

Maybe the devs should relax the restrictions on building on slopes or something, at least for mining installations.

Now this I fully support. It's a machine that digs in the ground. You should be able to place them on any slope.
Well I guess I had to expect the thread to be hijacked into a different topic, since most of them are.
I'm not complaining about the resource shifts, or their frequency. What I'm complaining about is twofold:
1) There are far too many "crappy" resources in tha database
2) Far too often there are no "good" resources available for long periods of time.
I was only using ore as an example, but I make high-end crafting stations, medicines, and powerups. I'm a miner / manufacturer / industrialist as much as an architect.
Yet I'd say at least half the time I'm running around looking for resources, I spend 45 minutes hunting down new stuff to sample it, check it out, then sample something else (after the stupid 30 second timer). And most of what I sample is worthless.
Regardless of experimentation as an architect, I need good stuff for my PA mates to make nice medicines, weapons, and armor. I need to make good powerups. Yet I'm reduced to begging for someone to sell metheir scraps of a high quality ore I made a schematic from because there's nothing really good for the last 3 weeks. This doesn't just apply to ore though.
So, please try and keep on-topic here. I want some sort of management of the resource shifts. Keep them random, at random intervals if you want. I don't mind. Just toss out some of the junk that no one with half a brain would use if they had a choice and replace it with something decent. If I have to go yet a 4th week without any really "good" ore or reactive gas, I'm gonna scream!
1) At the rate we're going through resources, most planets should be collapsing by now.
2) It's nice to have resources swtich so that some people can't plant on the 10 harvesters on the same spot and hog it (especially Large PA's).
Let's try the middle ground:
Every resource shouldn't switch every week. The ultra quality (and specialty) minerals/gases/chemicals could (Atlantium Carbonate, Beryllius Copper, Ryll Gems) swtich constantly. They might even not be around for awhile (a LONG while, I'm thinking 4-6 weeks+). The other more "common" materials should have a longer random timer put on them. Instead of 5-8 days maybe 10-20 days. The bonus is that this should cut down on database size (less minerals bouncing in and out). It would still keep weapon/armorsmiths happy because they can continue to charge their inflated prices. Don't tell me 20k isn't inflated, my friend laughs at you people who buy guns for that much. He's started factory making some nice toys and selling them "cheap" (as if 20k+ for a 250-300 rs item is cheap) and people gobble them up.
Unbenownst to them he has the (due to the heavy harvesters I built him) resources to build lightning guns and laser weapons and t21 rifles ad nauseam. He made 1 million credits in VERY short order. He still has a house stocked to the gills with various resources too. If we combine our resource totals he had (before the recent spawn) about 400k of beryllius alone. Now I'm almost scared to think about how much copper he has. Oh did he gouge some weaponsmiths with his secondary char before. He's almost done with armorsmith now too. Anyone wanna bet how much fiberplast (Nabooian or otherwise) he has? He could probably factory out more than enough to kill a market, and I'm almost begging him to. Walmart Weapon and Armorsmith.... hmmm... I wonder if he could destroy the market... First I have to convince him. He'll probably want at least 100mil cred first, so most people's profit margins are relatively safe, but after....
i agree totally with kyreal,
this resource shift atm sucks more then much.
i spend tonns of time redeeding and such. and last week was more then nasty.
like steel poofed and well i redeeded and set up new, next day same steel poofed again.
i had such with copper also and made me really angry, it is just a freaking time and money sink but steals the fun.
i am all for resource shifts, BUT shift all of a kind like minerals at one day and not over 3 days step by step.
u can just do it, shift minerals on 9.9. chemicals on 10.9. etc, or however u prefer it, but pls shift all at one day, so u can at least know when u set up a new harvester that u can let it run for some days till next shift, anyways imo a shift should not happened more then once a month, except ultra rare resources.
since when a mining company sucks a vein dry within some days only?
I dont have a problem with the resource shifting system. I rather like it. I would say if you hate it, then your prolly not going to stay in my profession for too long. Which is good for me. It weeds outs the those who are not truly dedicated to the craft.
AGAIN, could we please stay on topic? My topic, I mean, not these others thta crop up.
I'm not talking about resource shifts, I'm talking about quality of resources. Do I need to start over in another thread?
