Thread: Underpriceing
Alot of the costs are in perspective of what they pa for in prices. For example in resources if you don't have the capabilities to get your own ore you're at the mercy of those people that sell the ore. The base price I've seen is 3 credits a unit on up so for a large house you're cost alone is 60,000 credits or more.
Most Architech's sell large houses for 100,000 plus so you are makeing 30% plus in your mark up value which is a very nice bonus. Is it really wrong for people to underprice if they can afford it?
In my opinion it's not wrong and most of the arguements came up earlier and many are my questions when I seek out architechs.
1. Do you have product available or able to make it rather quickly?
2.Are your prices reasonable?
3.How is your personality?
4. How far do I have to travel to get the product?
If you can satisfy me with these questions I'll buy from you. To toss out an example I went hunting for a large Naboo House on Lowca earlier this week. I found an architech and upon speaking to him for a few minutes in PM I liked how he answered my questions but thought his product was a bit high due to what I was used to. But upon speaking to him a bit further he sold me and I gave him an order for a Large House and a PA Hall.
He gurenteed the order ready within 45 minutes and made it in 30 which impressed me and convinced me that if I need anything else and can't get ahold of my local PA Architech I'll gladly do business with him again.
You guys are selling a product and in order to make business you have to be competetive. If you come off mean then no I'm not going to do business with you and don't care if you're the cheapest on the server. It's like when you walk into a store you come there most of the time with a knowledge in your mind of what you want. You don't want those sales reps breathing down your neck and following you like a lost puppy dog trying to sell you another product.
You guys like merchants are businessmen. If competition undercuts your price then look at what you can improve on. If it's your prices then do so. If it's your customer service then do so and so forth.

Most armorsmiths and weaponsmiths make even more than that...on stuff that decays...or has uses...or that people buy again because of a bad slice, etc...
At 3cpu, may as well setup a vendor and sell the resources...make the same money that way, just as fast...and no crit fails.
Again, I still stand by the following:
1) We sell stuff that makes most people MORE money than a lot of things...especially since it's passive. Most people fail to realize that a 7 rate medium on a 25% spot, even buying power at 1cr/u, they BREAK EVEN selling the resources at *2cr/u* - anything over that is pure and simple profit with no real work.
2) Without decay, we don't get much repeat business. Some upgrade eventually, but once they do, they rarely need more. People always buy more guns, meds, armor, etc because they get USED UP.
So, we should have the chance to make as much money as the weaponsmiths and armorsmiths - and Dalyn, don't even try and tell me that you do - because we all know that you, and us, don't.
Yes Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths do make more, thank you for making my point. Just because you can make more money giving up architect and going weaponsmith or armorsmith does NOT make you an idiot for not doing so. It is the same with selling finished products in architecture when you might be able to make the same or more selling the raw materials.
There is noarguing he is making a profit, of course he is, and a large one at that.
However I do agree with you about decay, our entire profesion is doomed without decay. We may disagree on methods but you have my full agrement in supporting decay.
An no I dont make more money than many weaponsmiths, and probably armorsmiths, heck I dont make as much money as many architects. But i do make a whole lot o money, plenty for everything I need and more. I supported a small PA with the money I made ( soon they will pass me, I feel like a proud papa ). And they are making waves in thier profesions selling weapons, and pets and medical supplies for a much lower price than the competition.
Sorry there is one point I wanted to add, although I agree that repeat business is limited, in other ways it is not. A customer that buys a small hosue for me ( my least profit item ) usually returns to me for upgrades to larger houses, harvestors, factories, furnature, etc etc etc. And then he sends his friends to me.
In one sense 80% of all my business is repeat business. The tirck is to provide a value that Wow's the customer followed up by exlemplary service.
Treat your customers with respect!
Meat the deadlines you set, be a man ( or woman )of your word.
Diliver to your customers even small low profit items, dont make them come to you
Give a small housewarming gift with house sales
Give your customers a deal that is better than they expect.
These are what brings them back for more and has them talking to thier friends about you.
I dont care about those who sell for less. Matter of fact, I am trying to find a Master that posted on Flurry server selling factories for 15k so I can buy 2 of each for resale. Even if I sell those at 30k (100% profit), It is still a bargain, and I dont have to sweat to make them hehehe.
I am not the cheapest, and I am not the most expensive either. My income is steady, I am not overly busy and I am not stagnant. 75% of my business is word of mouth, the other 25% is people who do character searches. My bank account grows steadily, and I am having fun.
Everyone below my prices is an undercutter, everyone above me is a price gouger
I have more and more began to hate guilds...
All these archies get to make stuff at near zero cost. I am not in a guild that supplys me materials for nothing.
I think it depends on the guild. if its a guild centered around crafting and making credits then yes, because generally with all the extra resources coming in the prices charged are less. if you're the only arch in the guild though you might spend all of your time gathering and crafting just for the guild and not have time for sales outside.
being a guild architect doesn't automatically mean you have the abiltiy to just sell at lower prices or that you have more to sell.
