Thread: The Downtrend Continues... Going Medium House Rate 50k?
Not to redirect things too much, but I'm curious what you guys think of my commentary on the reason people sell cheap:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=architect&message.id=8602
What they need to do, IMO, is bump the exp cost of architecture up 50%, and put a 65% bonus on practicing. That way, people who are skilling up aren't flooding the market. In other professions it's not as important... for example, I assure you no one would want to buy the pistols I've been skilling up on... they have horrid stats. But there's no way to tell if a house was made well or not til after you've bought it.
Of course, I doubt they'll implement this solution... it's the sort of change that REALLY needs to be made BEFORE release.
Anyway... my 2 cents...

Smalls = 17k Ive made 15 Ive sold about 10 (other 5 to guild mates)
Mediums = 80k Ive made 20 of these, Ive sold 15 (5 went to guild mates)
Larges = 250k Ive made 10 of these, Ive sold 9 (1 went to a guild mate for our store)
I do not sell personal harvesters
I sell medium harvesters for 30k to 45k depending on which one and how many identical walls I have to make Ive sold too many of these to count
Ive sold 6 heavy mineral and chemical harvesters, my price ranges from 200 to 270k. I base this on come back customers, I sell for 270 the first time, and 200 every time after that.
Ive created 2 PA halls, one for my guild, the other for 650k
Do I have problems selling? no, I make upon request, I take 2 or 3 customers a day depending on resources and what I have in stock, and what they order. Sometimes I take more, sometimes I take less. I get the merchandise to the customers that day, unless of course theres a shift in resources and Im low. (sorry Fate)
I never have an issue with not having money, I pay all my guilds harvesters upkeep and power, I dont have more than 30 going, all of which are mediums.
Im not rich in regards to credits, but I do have the backing of very satisfied customers. Speed is of the essence. Remeber customers go to the store to buy things, not mail order them to get it days later. Use time to your advantage...it sells.
on a side note
Architects skilling up, should make structure mods and walls and sell to other architects. Architects already mastered, should try to help the economy by buying these walls and structure mods from those trying to make it. Not only does it help the future of our commerce but it also helps the architects of the server find a bond. That alone is more than worth it
don't build untell you have a buyer!
just thrash up the threes with bricks.
Go to walmart. There is your market. Why are they making everyone go out of business? Because they buy cheap and sell cheap. They are making a profit too. That is the goal. Sell cheap and make a profit, and you up the ammount you sell. Or you can sell high and less often. The problem there is that you won't keep customers. No one is making BETTER houses than me, so why pay more?
As for all this alarmist prediction about the end of the architectural world, well I don't buy any of it. Yes, the market is going to drop fast soon. That may drop housing prices, it may not. It all depends on how many architects there are, how many new players want houses, how many guilds move their halls, how many new guilds want halls, not to mention the huge potential that player cities will add. Also, the cost of resources is GROSSLY overpriced. I expect that with the drop in demand in housing will also come a drop in the cost of raw resources. I expect we will see cost of resrouces around 1.5x the cost of harvesting them, maybe lower. So it will cost us less to make the same houses.
Not to mention furniture sales, which few people seem to want to make to sell. I have seen only one arch vendor with furniture for sale.
Those of you that think archicture is doomed because you can't sell your buildings for 5x resources are wrong. It is just you that is doomed. If you can't manage the market weather you will die out. Complain away, but that IS what a market is all about.
LOL Say that when all your harvesters are large and the resources they are sitting on just went dry.

You don't need to sell the item, you can always run destroy missions for cash to keep your harvestors going. And they can always run destroy missions to get the cash to buy the house at the price you want them to pay.

walmart....the bane of the mom and pop store owners
10k small
60k medium
120k large
I have no problem selling at these prices, and i make a profit each time. I won't go lower though, and if the prices fall to where these aren't viable, I'll stop selling houses I think.
You can say sell cheap to get customers all you want, but I remind you ... 2.5 credits a resource is COST at best. So dont tell me that I should be selling under 3 credits a resource. A medium house at 3 credits a resource is about 60k. Dumbo and dingbat are getting them for 50k, if not less.
I had a guy give metell yesterday, wanting a wearables factory. Now I wasn't hawing this item, but its going for about 40k at 3 credits a resource. Now you and I both know what happnes next. 60k is what I offer him. Then goes the negotitation, but get this.. because of the low prices on the market this guy thinks 30k is an "AVERAGE" price?! 30k.. yeah ok .. I'm not giving a way stuff today. Yeah I know, tell him to get the resources and bring them back blah blah blah..
Here is what I realized:
IPLAY A GAME TO GET AWAY FROM THINGS LIKE A BAD ECONOMY NOT TO BE IN ONE!
I'll be back in 6 months to see if its any better. In my opinion they need to raise the resource requirements by at least 5x. Lets see how many people are willing to sell for less then. Until then, enjoy your 50k gun and haggle over your 40k medium house. People will be using guild halls as storage space.. 300k is NOTHING..
hahahah cant to see urban sprawl then..
