I use good materials. I experement (since I am using factories I may as well have high percents on the schematics). I wave a dead chicken over my head and chant "Cthulhu Ftagn!"
Something is working, so I keep doing it all

Zataera, this is just my personal opinion here, but when I'm crafting something as expensive as a Heavy Mineral Miner, I'm a tad bit more careful about what buttons I'm pressing.

ahh experimentation..
since the last resource change on Lowca (3 weeks, forced this morning), I have been harvesting mad amounts of Ropote. This is an Unknown Sedimentary Ore on my server and planet, with an overall quality and decay resistance somewhere beneath my boots, possibly slightly below the surface of the ground, being passed through the inards of earthworms. Unexperimented, SM's [see note on BA's below] had a whopping 1% DR. But thanks to the power of experimentation, I was able to always build a schematic with maximum decay resistance! (8% for these components). Further, I would use the same aluminum and the same ghetto ore (as a friend who borrowed some exclaimed before almost giving it back to me and going without) in my schematic for WM's. I then use those wall modules in my heavies. The only problem I've had in these last three weeks was when I made the mistake of grinding some chef for kicks (later removed to keep SP for UP), and practiced a rockbiter into oblivion. Made me sad.
So anyway, I have seen no noticeable difference with the ultra-low quality of my SM's in all my WM's in all my heavy endeavors for the last three weeks. And WM's make up a significant chunk of the components in those items.
BA's - Bi-letteral Acronyms
Not to be confused with TLA's (Three Letter Acronyms, the Bi-letteral Acronyms contain only two letters.
Examples used in this post:
BA - Bi-letteral Acronym
SM - Structure Module
WM - Wall Module
DR - Decay Resistance
SP - Skill Points
UP - Urban Planner
Examples not used in this post:
BS - bull *edit*
FU - *edit* you
MF - mother *edit*
