Thread: Architecture: the abandonment of our chosen profession by SOE

I think that some of your suggestions are valid, but I disagree with the removal of the admin function on other people's harvesters as I am using about 5 of my friends lots with medium harvesters and I cleary see that these 5 extra lots actually allow me to turn a profit, I would strongly recommend giveing architects the 5 extra lots.

Another thing I found absolutely rediculous is that it is only the structure factory that takes up 2 lots, the others all only take up 1 lot.

I also think that architects would be happy if we could locate our own Ore anywhere with a percentage of over 60, I find myself lucky to find it anywhere near 50% nowadays, which is absolutely stupid considering the MASSES and MASSES of Ore we go through. As a Master Architect I find myself buying Ore off the market at at least 5creds/unit. I guess once I can afford to build myself a bunch of Large harvesters for my own use I will be looking to do so, hopefully they can simply fix the problem architects are having with the economy.

Making architects the only way to maintain a house is good. all those maintenance fees going into the house builders bank instead of the money sink. If houses cost more to maintain, and money is harder to get now... not many will want a house.

Actually, Pawlim, what I'd truly like to see would be for SOE to bring back the Miner Profession, & put ALL mining in their trees. Barring that, only Architects & Artisans should be able to mine. What I had envisioned was that there wouldnt be any admin sharing, which of course would be answered by the giving of 5 additional lots per tier to the archi9tects only, thus making htem be able to compete. Having seen the good & well thought responses here, I am truly impressed! (you know, I dont think i received even 1 flame?) THIS is the kind of thing that SOE MUST see...

Now, there were a lot of well developed arguments that there should not be both an increased maint cost AND enforced decay. Reading thru the pro/con arguments, I have realized my own error. There should NOT in fact be both, but the enforced decay is an absolute must!

Almsman,

I have to disagree with you about enforced decay on structures. This will kill the architect profession. No one is going to buy a 150K large house and put all their stuff in it if it's just going to burn down eventually.Especially if they already have to pay maintenance (even reduced maintenance) on the structure. Another thing, no one wants to have to move all of their stuff out of their house every month when they have to buy a new house--that's just a huge hassle that would take up hours of playing time.

Crafters would feel the pinch even more because they would have to replace expensive harvestors, generators, factories and vendor stores (i.e. houses) every month or so. Most crafters I hear about already have a hard enough time paying maintenance on everthing, let along having to periodically replace it all.

Again, what will encourage demand for new structures is for structure experimentation to be fully implemented. This is what all architects should push SOE for. If architects can make structures with varying abilities or stats (just like a weaponsmiths can make T21's or Scout Blasters with varying stats), then people would have a reason to upgrade their structures. For example, right now the item limit on a house is 250 items max. What if expermentation could increase this to 300 or 350. Then people would have a reason to upgrade their large houses.

Likewise, miners would have a reason to buy new harvestors if architects could make them more efficient, more productive, with larger hoppers or use less maintenance/power, etc.

All that enforced structure decay willaccomplish is discourage anyone from owning any kind of structures (except perhaps for personal harvestors which are already considered to be disposable).

In closing, all I can say is, be careful what you wish for, because you just may get it.

you do have a good point, Ed. Matter of fact I have seen a lot of good points going thus far, & am hoping to see them continuing.

Further, I would like to see most if not all of the later postings regarding our beloved profession funnel into one large thread; this should force SOE to stand up & take some notice of us. This in mind, I *am* going to be linking other posts here.

Your point does however tie into #6 of my original post, I must however state that I should have added that experimentation (which as yet does nothing for archi's, really) should begin to show some long term effect. Otherwise, who would even bother with the experimentation?

2. Add a 5 lot per tier bonus to the architect profession. This will provide the architect (& i do mean all of us!) with continuing incentive to remain in our profession. If only architects receive this, then only Architects will be mining for ores again, & those few other crafters who require mined resources likewise will have the resources of their 10 lots available to them.

3. Increase the maintenance cost on all structures. Lets face it folks, without that buildings decay, there isn't a need for our services beyond the initial construction. We are building ourselves out of a profession with every structure we make!

calm down killer, do you realize that what you said in 3 will only kill what you proposed in 2?

im sorry but im barely able to scrape up enough cash for my 2 heavies and 7 mediums as it is because everybody wants us to just give them our stuff.

Ok since you post the url for this in every post on this forum i cant sit here anymore and read it..These are some of the worst ideas i have ever seen..I'll post answers why in the order of your list..

1) People cant get on everyday to check these and dont have the power reserves to load up for a week if they go out of town..My friends share power and resources with me and we all dip into these harvesters...

2)We are already too many in this trade..This would just make more people work to architect to get lot bouses..

3) Yeah and lets make housing less atractive when its alread hard to sell at a good price..This one would make us all sink to the bottom feeder level and sell for 1-2 per resource just to get by(and thats just getting by)

4) See #2

5) My house is 52 years old and going stong..Also my Fater has worked in a factory for 30 years and its been there like 70 years he fixes the machines there as his job and it has yet to fall down..I HAVE SAID THIS ALOT AND WILL AGAIN DECAY IS THE WORST IDEA I HAVE EVER HEARD..And see answer #3

6) OK so this one has merit but everyone whos in this profession knows that..So it goes without saying..

I mean come on please stop posting this as an answer to everypost..You and Zarcath can have all your stuff go poof if you want but most of us dont see that as a selling point for structures..I am not always this crude but i keep seeing this URL and it has nothing to offer..

Would not like to be a decay soapbox rider if they actualy do cause you would be the most hated architect in the multiverse..

no decay, no non no nono.

Frankly, I will not pay for a house that poofs even after I pay the required upkeep fees. I will not buy expensive harvesters that will poof after I pay the required harvester fees. I'll make my own personal harvesters. and I'll have more free lots to place them, because my house imploded.

You guys at least have a market. Not the same with DE's.

I have to agree with EdOWar here. Have experimentation do something. The added items in the house is a great idea as how to impliment greater value in a home. Also in reference to the harvesters having improved capabilities and storage as a result of expierimentation is also a great idea that goes a long way to helping our trade. Decaying homes is a bad idea. It'll put us out of an already crumbling business.
