You know, I hate to sound all noob-y, but if the factory stop due to an error, don't you lose one item from the schematic count? So I make a schematicfor 100 whatever, but the factory stops due to something after making 50 items, does the schematic now list its remaining run as 49 or 50?

I only know of 2 waysthat canstop a factory at the moment; one, you didn't put in enough resources and/or components. If this is the case, then the resources of 1 item will be gone, so you'll need to add resources for 1 item. The schematic amount and components are fine though. The second way is when the output hopper is full. This will just stop the factory correctly; no resources or components will be used. This is also the case when you stop a factory manually during a run.

For what it is worth, when I was mass producing harvesters I would make schematics for runs of 50 at a time, towards the end I realised it really didn't matter what size the schematic was, so I made 1000 item schematics for anything I wanted to make and realised there were certain benefits to this approach. I could just put the required number of components and resources in the factory and switch it on. If I wanted 50, I put in enough for 50, if after I put them on vendor, if they sold fast then provided I still had the right components and resources I could run off more. The advantage with running a system like this is that you can 'share' resources and components to an extent.

To simplify the explanation of this, imagine you have enough Gen Turbines for 100 harvestors but you are not sure whether to make Mins or Chems, you make 20 of each, if the Chems sell fast, then make another 20, but if it was the mins you can make another batch of those instead. This method can also be useful to use up 'end of line' high end components and resources, if you have made a schematic for 50 harvs, and at the end find you have enough omus for say6 more then it is less wasteful to have made a 1000 unit schematic, you can throw these extras in, as long as you have the other stuff needed and just make the last few. It doesn't waste anything to make a full 1000 item schematic, yet it increases your options not least if you simply miscalculate how much you had of something. At the end, when there is no possibility to use a certain schematic any more you simply destroy it.

As stu said, it is all about organisation, this method simply helps.
