I hope nobody takes this as an insult but you guys take this game way too seriously. Not everybody has the time to keep checking websites, monitor mineral shifts and go around for hours looking for new survey sites. Some people have real life comittments that make it literally impossible to do what some have suggested. This is a game supposed to be played for enjoyment. I find playing as a Novice Architect not to be all that fun. When I'm squeezed out of the good sites by somebody who has made SWG a way of life that's not fun for me. I play to enjoy myself not to be frustrated because somebody else wants to corner the market by planting a huge field of harvesters. The early bird does indeed get the worm but it should be on a level playing field. A mineral shift occuring when most players havereal life responsibilities guarantees that only certain players will get to the good sites. Why should I be penalized for having a life outside of SWG? It's just not fun.
The resource shifts don't happen at the same time or on the same day. Most things that I've mined as an architect last around 7-9 days. How can it be an even playing field for every time zone? Should we make sure the resource shifts happen when you have time off in your time zone? The European servers came online a while after European players were playing, so you have lots of European players on North American servers.Should the resource shifts happen when it's most comfortable for them? As I said in an earlier post, the way the economy works here is that you look for the best you can get at the price you are willing to pay (credits, time, whatever). If you can't get the best, you have to accept something else or keep looking.
If you want an even playing field every time, play a fps or a single player game. I suppose that was rather nasty, so here's a constructive comment. There are people who contract to find resource spots for you. Contract one of them. Tell in general what resource types you're looking and the stats and pay them whatever financial arrangement you make. I've done a few of these for people that didn't think they could find anything good or just wanted someone to find their first spot for them. It wasn't cheap for them though, but consider this as a possibility. Make business arrangements with resource finders, resource sellers, component suppliers, customersand the like. Social interaction, that's what this game is about. Being totally self-sufficient is great for the bottom line, if you have the time. But you can still contract for some services and still be a crafter and still show a profit and hopefully still have some fun.

I'm guilty as charged and no offense taken. I know I play too much. ![]()
BUT, I don't take mining very seriously. My harvesters sit behind my house static mining 32% ore densities or 65% grind copper for 90% of the time.
Monitoring for resource shifts is not as time consuming as it sounds. I rarely use SWGCraft, but am able to stay on top of the shifts.
First thing I do every time I log in is open my mineral surveyor and take a screen shot of the available resources. Then I compare it with my last screen shot. Windows 2000 has that nice little slide show option which can arrange your pictures chronologically, so it is only a matter of comparing your last two screen shots.
If I see something new which I need, I start looking for a spot right away. I also have a dismount-pause 1-survey-mount macro which almost lets my survey while driving.
It is pretty simple, but it gets me to the resources spawns very fast, most of the time I find I am the first one there. And all of this is done in well under an hour.
