Thread: Current Experimentation Post rant/rave here

Ooooo. I hadn't heard this one before. This is one of the best suggestions I have heard yet. In fact, I think it is a great idea.
But insdtead of side tracking into decay, let me take another tack that is on topic.
Does everyione understand that the current changes will lower prices on our products?
It is still supply vs demand, demand has increased only short term because our products still last forever. While supply is being greatly increased via more efficient harvestors. Cheaper raw materials mean cheaper finished products.
Not necessarily cheaper finished products. For the base harvs, yes. For the ubber harvs that you want to use Owito Steel on, no, they wont be cheaper. Not any more than a Composite set made with the best resources.
However, I can see medium baseline harvs going for 8k to 9k.

If the harvesters gather MORE Owito Steel then won't the price of Owito Steel go down and then the end price of the Ubber harvester go down since I want to sell for lowest possible price to get market?
Not only that but if Owito Steel is easier to get and it is an Ubber resource for Weapon/Armor smiths then won't it drive their prices down also?
Sorry but that is incorrect, with the base resources I use now ( no looking for better stuff ) I can make a harvestor that extracts at 9kph no sweat.
That is a 28.5% increase in the rate of resources flowing into the game. Increasing supply of resources and chepaer per unit of resource WILL have a downward effect on prices.
I dont dare raise the prices of my harvestors one cr, and I have not. I am now selling at 9kph what I used to sell a 7kph unit. This is going to speed the demise of the Architect.

I bet that gets nerfed quicker than a nerf football.

If Owito spawned every toher week maybe, but it doesnt, so it wont. Now, as Dalyn mentioned, right nowyou can use any old resource that is halfway decent, and if you are a master, you can bump up the stats to ubber easily. With the ubber minersout there bringing in millions of resources a week, I bet it wont be the case much longer. Either they loose the ability to improve on rate, or they make it so you need uber resources to make them. So, enjoy it now while you can, if you think it is going to stay like this, yer kidding yourself.
1. Hopper Size: It doesnt make much sense to experiment to make these bigger unless we DO get a larger extraction rate.. I mean fusions have the highest base extraction rate at 13 with a hopper size of 100k. On a 99% spot of radioactive (wow) that fusion would bring in around 18k of materials a day (www.swgcraft.com harvester calculator, i havent actually ever found a 99% spot myself) that means that the 100k hopper is still good for 5 days. So a bigger hopper isnt necessarily anything that we have to worry about as resource shifts are only 7-9 days long anyways so we wil be visiting our harvesters usually in time to empty them before they are full at 100k.
2. Extraction Rate: This feature is simply AWESOME. This feature can set the masters apart from the apprentices (since we get more experimetnation points). Also it will stop people from just taking the instal or building lines and if yo uwant to make good harvesters you must get to master, not just do the instal line and save your other skill points for uses in other areas. Altho i would suggest that a harvesters maintance and/or power be scaled up based on the extraction rate. So the materials would still cost the same to harvest as other heavies, just that you could get more materials out of that one harvester using only one lot. So the money sink stays the same and prices on resources dont fluctuate.
I also think that its nice that I dont have to use UBER materials for everything in the schematic. My harvesters turn out the same qualities when i use the nice ore mininig units + good or crap materials in the final combine. So its not like i need 40k of UBER resources to makea good harvester, just a few to produce nice ore mining units.
I love the new changes and am going to be sad to see them go away... I cant bring myself to craft too many of the nice harvesters with my good materials, for if they revert all the deeds to the original values i wil have just wasted all my good materails i have been specifically saving since they first mentioned that we might get experimentation.
Ok, i only have a problem from a standpoint of pricing.
Some examples: a medium harvestor
Pricing based on resrouces used. Now we can experiment and make them work like a heavy and use less power and credits. So, on non experimentated harvestors with just an extraction rate of 4, you know I am still going to charge 3-4 cr per resource used. But hey its now better then a non experimentated Heavy mineral. I am still going to charge 3-4 cr per resource on those. SO what the hell do I charge for the medium with an ext. rate of 7? It's essentially a heavy but better. Do I charge the same as a heavy then because, hey it is a heavy.
Ok, what the heck do I charge for a Non experimentated heavy? 3-4cr per resource used to start, but heck who is going to buy those when they can get a medium that does the same work.
I tell you this is another instance where we can really screw ourselves if we aren't careful. I see medium harvestors being very valuable and only the hardcore resrouce gather'ers (?) wanting a heavy.
So, what do we charge? 50k? 60k? Up to the price of heavy would seem logical.
So does this mean we're keeping the current experimented extraction rates for sure? Have the Devs said one way or another? I'm sick of being in the dark about this. Please enlighten me if I've missed something.
My rant would be the total lack of communication to us from the Devs. I don't know what the heck is going on anymore and it's frustrating.
Your problem Rheet is that you are basing it on a fixed price of 3-4 cr, when the extraction cost of a unit of resource is changing dramatically.
The bottom line of all finished prices will be affected by changes to the cost of extraction long term.
